How to wash a jacket made of polyester and other materials in the washing machine and by hand

Rules for washing coats made of different materials

You can wash your coat at home without any extra effort, but each type of fabric has its own cleaning features.

Wool

It is better to wash wool products by hand or resort to dry cleaning; the choice depends on the degree of contamination. If the item is 100% wool, then it can only be cleaned using a delicate dry method.

The bottom edge of the coat, sleeves and spaces near the seams are the most problematic areas; special attention is paid to them. Rules for cleaning wool products:

  1. Read the manufacturer's care recommendations.
  2. Identify problem areas that need cleaning.
  3. Use special devices for cleaning natural fabrics: adhesive roller, cotton swab, soft sponge or brush.
  4. Dry on a flat surface after washing or on a hanger after drying.

First, remove small dirt from the coat with a sticky roller, after which the pellets are removed. Use a slightly moistened brush to go over problem areas; you can carry out this procedure several times, but do not apply force so as not to damage the fibers. After which the product is shaken and hung.

Important! When cleaning woolen products, you should not use chemicals with strong odors, since wool does not weather well and odors remain for a long time.

You can wash a wool coat at home by hand if it contains less than 60% natural fibers. It is placed in a bathtub; you can use special powders and gels for woolen items. If your washing machine has a delicate cycle, you can use it.

Cashmere

Cashmere items are cleaned in the same way as wool coats - by hand washing or dry cleaning. A washing machine can damage the fibers, since cashmere is treated with special compounds that are very demanding on temperature and washing conditions.

It is better to wash a cashmere coat by hand in the bathroom, the water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees.

Drape

It is not recommended to wash a drape coat entirely. Inspect the product for stains and abrasions. You can quickly deal with them using shampoos for woolen items, but the concentration of the washing solution should be weak.

Greasy areas or stains are treated with a medium-hard brush. All coats are carefully wiped with a soft sponge with this solution. Then rinse well and hang out to dry. For heavy stains, the coat can be washed in the bathroom. Unlike wool and cashmere products, a drape coat requires more thorough rinsing. Detergent stains may remain on the fabric.
