  • power cord;
  • gearbox

Any part can fail. To determine the cause of the breakdown, the meat grinder will have to be disassembled.

An electric meat grinder has broken down - what to do: do-it-yourself electric meat grinder repair

Repair of manual meat grinders

Manual meat grinders consist entirely of mechanical parts. When disassembling, it is always easy to see the breakdown and replace the damaged part with a new one. Moreover, all the components are easy to find on sale.

There’s not much that can break in manual meat grinders. Most often, their knives become dull, which can be easily sharpened with a fine sharpening wheel. Such a circle is placed on the axis of the meat grinder instead of a mesh for product output and rotational actions are performed with a handle, as when grinding meat.

Sometimes there may be a strong creaking noise while the device is operating. Then you should disassemble the mechanism, lubricate the rotation point of the handle so that the lubricant does not get into the meat container.

All parts of hand-held devices are made of metal and cannot break if stringy pieces or small bones get into them, since a person will definitely feel the tension under his hand and clean the mechanism. The exception is modern manual meat grinders, which are made of fragile metal.

All electrical devices for grinding meat, regardless of manufacturer, consist of:

  • engine;
  • gearbox - consists of several bearings and gears to transmit the power of the motor into the rotational movements of the cutting mechanisms;
  • knife systems (auger);
  • control unit;
  • power cord.

Main types of malfunctions of electric meat grinders

Most often, meat grinders of this type break due to improper use. Only a small part of devices fail due to the fault of the manufacturer. It is important to use the meat grinder only for its intended purpose, following the attached instructions.

Housewives are faced with problems such as:

  1. The device does not turn on at all.
  2. The device does not grind the product.
  3. While the meat grinder is operating, there is a smell of burning and smoke.
  4. There are extraneous sounds when the engine is running.
  5. The drive does not gain enough revolutions.

Don’t rush to take the electric meat grinder to the workshop. Try to eliminate the cause of the breakdown yourself.

Causes of breakdowns

The main reasons why electric meat grinders of all brands fail is their improper use. Only a small percentage is due to poor quality workmanship. The quality of the parts themselves depends on the reliability of the manufacturer. You shouldn’t skimp on it, as repairs can be much more expensive, and parts are not so easy to find on sale.

Electric meat grinder repair

Electrical appliances have become indispensable assistants in cooking. They greatly facilitate labor-intensive processes that require effort and time. One of such processes can be considered the preparation of minced meat.

Basically, a mechanical meat grinder was used for this - an inexpensive and compact device driven by human power.

A modern household electric meat grinder will help to effectively facilitate this work. These devices are compact, high-performance and do not require special maintenance. After use, just wash and dry the attachments. Most often, electric meat grinders work for a long time when used correctly. But sometimes there are exceptions, devices break down due to improper use or manufacturing defects. Many people believe that it is too expensive and unprofitable to have a device such as an electric meat grinder repaired, and they have neither the experience nor the ability to repair it themselves. But as practice shows, usually the breakdowns are so minor that they can be handled by a person who has never repaired such equipment. Of course, there are more serious breakdowns that require the intervention of a service center, but trying to fix the problem yourself is still worth a try. This article describes the repair of a practically new meat grinder, which for unknown reasons stopped working. There were no falls or overloads in the operation of this device, it just stopped turning on one fine day. This is the meat grinder in the photo.

It is controlled by one switch with three positions. In the first position it performs the main work, in the second it reverses, and in the third middle position it turns off.

None of these positions caused the grinder motor to rotate in either direction. In general, there was no reaction, no smoke, no heating, or anything else.

So, let's start disassembling the device. To do this you will need a Phillips screwdriver.

We place the meat grinder on its side and find two mounting screws from below. Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew them. But that's not all that holds the two halves of the body. We find an additional pair of hidden screws. They are located at the back, under the cover in the compartment for storing attachments. We unscrew them too. Next, we tighten the back part.

The two halves separate and the internal mechanism of the device can be seen. The control button then falls out of the mounting grooves. In addition to the mechanical part, you can see the electronic filling of the meat grinder, namely the control board. There is nothing installed inside the back cover. At the bottom there is an electric motor that rotates the reduction gearbox. The DC motor is designed for 220 volts. On the board you can see the operating mode switch. It also has a fuse that is installed in an inconvenient location. The thought immediately arises that this is where the problem lies. But to check this, you need to get to it. To do this, lift the plastic clamp that firmly holds the printed circuit board. Then we bend it to the side.

The power cable is connected through the connectors on the board and so that it does not interfere, it must be disconnected. It was not possible to remove the connector by hand, so a screwdriver was used. We use it as a lever. When the power cable is disconnected, proceed to the next step - removing the plastic motor protective casing. This will also improve accessibility in the PCB. The casing is held on by two latches; by disconnecting them, you can remove it.

Now there is free access to both the engine and the electronic components of the board. We take out the fuse and, using any device that can detect the circuit, take a measurement. If the fuse is intact, put it back where it was.

Just in case, we also check the power cable. We move its ends to the side and plug in the plug. Using a multimeter, we check whether 220 volts is coming to the cable output. In our case, the device shows what is coming. So the problem is something else.

All diodes, resistors and chokes on the board were checked with a multimeter. All of them corresponded to the standard, except for one resistor, which was designated R9 on the board. This resistor is responsible for powering the motor control chip. If you look at the electronic circuit, it should have a resistance of 470 kOhm, but when it was measured, the resistance showed infinity. It was decided to replace it with a serviceable one, but with this rating there was no resistance. A resistor with a resistance of 510 kOhm was found, which was 40 kOhm higher than the nominal value. With such a large resistance as 510 kOhm, 40 kOhm would not play much of a role. Therefore, it was decided to install what was available, especially since the power of the faulty resistor was 0.125 W and this one was 0.25 W, that is, with a power reserve. To do this, it was necessary to unsolder the faulty resistor on at least one side, and solder a new one on the other side of the board. Next, connect the power cable to the board and plug the cord into a power outlet. We press the control key, and as you can see in the photo, the engine begins to rotate. We check all operating modes. In our case, the meat grinder worked perfectly, and it became clear that the cause of the malfunction was precisely this resistor. Now it was necessary to completely remove the faulty resistor and solder the working resistance in its place. After soldering, you need to wipe the board on both sides with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to remove excess rosin and various debris. Next, we assemble the meat grinder in the reverse order as we disassembled it. We fix the electronic board and put on the plastic motor protective cover. The final stage is connecting the two halves of the body and checking the already assembled device.

Voila and everything works! :-)

Meat grinder does not grind meat

Causes of breakdowns of electric meat grinders and how to eliminate them? Repair of electric meat grinders.

The failure of household appliances is a sore subject for many users, because when vital necessities do not work, this can cause disruption to the usual routine of life. At the same time, a breakdown of a microwave oven, meat grinder or juicer is only half the problem; the worst thing is when the repair of electric meat grinders or other household appliances. Today, repairs of household appliances are carried out by many specialized service workshops, which is where you should turn. An equally important aspect is the correct choice of a high-quality, reliable meat grinder. What should you pay attention to when choosing it? The model must have high power and performance. A device with more power will spin large pieces of meat or lard faster. This will make it possible to significantly save time, in contrast to using a device with low power.

The meat grinder must be made of high-quality materials, with the main working parts, including grates and auger, made of metal, since they bear the main load. In addition, the device must be as safe as possible, with a design that provides protection from injury. Despite their high reliability, these devices, like any household appliance, are susceptible to breakdowns. Let's figure out what troubles can arise during the operation of an electric meat grinder, the reasons for their occurrence and how to eliminate them. Quite often, there is a malfunction in the operation of electric meat grinders, which means that the drive operates intermittently. The reason is that the carbon brushes are worn out and will have to be replaced. Repairs of modern electric meat grinders with such breakdowns will be carried out by service centers that have the necessary equipment and tools for these purposes. If the rotation speed of the drive shaft in the meat grinder is too low, the engine hums, as well as a burning smell, the breakdown is hidden in the electric motor. In this case, the technician needs to carry out diagnostics if it is necessary to replace the faulty electric motor. Quite often, users contact the service with a problem when the engine speed has decreased. The cause of the problem may be the intensive supply of products to the consoles. If the output shaft does not rotate in the meat grinder, the gearbox transmission mechanism is jammed. In this case, you will have to disassemble the gearbox, correctly determine the fault, and then replace the faulty part. Another fairly common problem is a malfunction when the output shaft is skewed. The reason for this may be a bent output shaft, which will have to be replaced by first disassembling the gearbox. Wear of the working gears of the meat grinder gearbox may occur due to overload of the meat grinder. A defect such as wear of the meat grinder knife is caused by the use of hard meat with veins or small bones, as well as products that cannot be ground in an electric meat grinder.

Causes of device malfunctions and methods for eliminating them

If it was not possible to prevent the breakdown of household equipment, a set of measures should be taken aimed at restoring the functionality of the device.

To quickly troubleshoot the problem, you should diagnose the meat grinder and identify the cause of equipment failure. To do this, it is necessary to inspect the device visually or using an electrical meter. The second method, in turn, allows you to inspect the insulation and determine the presence of a break in the wiring.

If, as a result of a visual inspection, it was not possible to detect the cause of the malfunction, most likely it is “hidden” inside the housing. Such problems include: clogging of the lubricant, overheating of heating element parts or the presence of cracks.

Remember, if the cause of the breakdown is not eliminated in time, over time the structure will become completely unusable, and as a result, it will be almost impossible to return it to working condition.

A timely preventive inspection of the main connections, parts and wiring of the meat grinder will help to identify and eliminate design defects at the initial stage of their development, extending the service life of the household electrical appliance.

Let's look at the main causes of malfunctions of meat grinders and methods for eliminating them.

  • The drive does not operate at the specified speed . The cause of equipment malfunction is a broken switch or electric motor. To eliminate the problem, it is enough to replace the worn mechanism.
  • The drive operates intermittently . As a rule, the problem is the wear of the carbon brushes. To bring the device into working condition, they must be replaced.
  • Low shaft rotation speed, as well as the appearance of extraneous sounds and a burning smell when the meat grinder is operating . The cause of the breakdown is a malfunction of the electric motor. To restore the functioning of the “grinding” structure, it is necessary to replace it.

Remember, if the electric motor does not work, you should first evaluate the feasibility of repair, since due to the high cost of the mechanism, often the best solution is to purchase a new device.

  • Low engine speed . As a rule, the reason for a decrease in the productivity of the device is the intensive supply of products into the loading funnel.

To resume the speed of the meat grinder, it is necessary to feed the ingredients in doses (in smaller portions).
