After a season of wear, a padded jacket becomes dirty and dusty and requires timely cleaning. You can wash the product at home by hand or in a washing machine. Sintepon requires careful cleaning so that the item retains its appearance.
Washing features
To understand how to wash a jacket, find out the characteristics of the material from which it is made. When choosing a method for cleaning a product, be sure to study the information on the label.
Basic recommendations:
- Study the tag and select the required mode for washing the item.
- The water temperature for padding polyester should not exceed +40 ⁰С.
- Only gentle modes on an automatic machine are used, or you need to wash the item by hand.
- To prevent holofiber from pilling, special laundry balls are used.
- You can use fabric softener to soften the fabric.
Any padding polyester jacket requires careful care, and then it will retain its original appearance for a long time. You should carefully follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
What kind of material?
Sintepon is a non-woven fabric and belongs to the first class synthetic insulators and fillers. It is used as a filler for blankets, bedspreads, pillows, women's and men's clothing, workwear, and children's overalls. This material is even used in newborn discharge kits.
The synthetic filler is lightweight and has a heat-resistant effect, it recovers well after washing and is hypoallergenic.
Outerwear is made using the needle-punched method. Fastening of fibers is carried out mechanically by weaving and fixing on the surface of the fabric with special needles made of fibers having a different direction.
If compared with other methods, padding polyester made using this method will be of higher quality and resistant to mechanical stress.
A cheaper option is glued filler, its particles are joined together with glue. Such clothes look luxurious and elegant, but over time the appearance deteriorates and the filling gets lost.
But a jacket filled with needle-punched or thermosetting synthetic padding is not afraid of either hand or automatic washing.
Winter clothes, with proper care, can withstand frost down to -15 degrees and below. But, speaking about the positive qualities of the filler, we must also talk about the negative ones. Due to frequent washing, the fiber structure may be damaged. This leads to a deterioration in the appearance of the clothes and to the fact that the padding polyester will begin to allow cold air currents to pass through due to the filler clumping into clumps.

What's the best way to wash
To choose a method ─ in a washing machine or by hand, you need to identify the pros and cons of both methods. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Pros of hand washing:
- You can straighten the padding polyester while cleaning;
- Easily remove stubborn stains with a brush;
- Contaminated areas are clearly visible and can be washed first.
Please note that when washed in a basin, the jacket will become completely wet and will be difficult to wring out. It is important to properly prepare the item and select detergents .
Pros of machine washing:
- you can choose the optimal temperature;
- the fabric is stretched outside and inside;
- the detergent is washed out completely;
- the thing wrings out well.
But there are also disadvantages: when washing in a drum, the fabric can tear, and the padding polyester can roll up in one place. There is a possibility that stubborn stains will not be cleaned.
It is impossible to say for sure what will be better able to maintain the attractive appearance of a down jacket. When choosing, they are guided by the quality of the fabric, the labels on the clothes and the amount of dirt.
Washing in a washing machine
Before washing your down jacket, you need to choose a detergent. It is better not to use powder, as it gets clogged between the fibers and is difficult to rinse out.
It is optimal to use a liquid product for down jackets and membrane fabrics. It washes out well, retains the color of the material and has a gentle composition.
Preparation of heavy soiling:
- Make a soap solution from laundry or liquid soap.
- Using a soft brush, apply the product to the stains.
- Rub lightly and leave for 2 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water.
Do not rub stains with your hands, as this will damage the material. It is better to use a soft toothbrush or sponge.
Washing steps:
- Remove stubborn stains.
- Prepare the item for the procedure by turning it inside out.
- Load the jacket into the drum.
- Set the washing mode to “Manual” or “Synthetic”.
- Some machines have a “Down Jackets” program, which is optimal for padding polyester jackets.
- It is better to turn off the “Spin” mode completely or leave it at minimum speed (no more than 600).
- It is advisable to disable the “Drying” operation.
- Determine the temperature not higher than +40 ⁰С.
- Pour liquid into the compartment.
- Turn on the washing machine.
After the machine has finished working, remove the down jacket from the drum, gently wring it out with your hands and lay it out to dry on a flat surface.
Handwash
Hand washing, unlike machine washing, requires a lot of effort to remove stains and wring out the fabric. Preparation includes turning it inside out and cleaning greasy stains. Fur elements must be detached.
Process:
- Warm water is filled into a bathtub or large basin. The water temperature should not exceed +40 ⁰С. A thermometer should be used.
- Add detergent and stir (the required amount is indicated on the package).
- Prepare the item for washing: fasten the zippers, turn them inside out.
- Apply a soap solution to visible stains and clean with a brush.
- Dip the down jacket in water and leave for 30 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Rinse well with clean water, you can use fabric softener.
- Wring out the product by hand.
- Lay out on a horizontal surface and leave until completely dry.
For ease of spinning, use a large towel. A down jacket is wrapped in it and rolled into a tube. The towel absorbs all excess water.
The nuances of wet cleaning of outerwear with padding polyester of different densities

- Remove stains using laundry soap or a stain remover suitable for the material that does not contain bleach.
- Check the outer and inner pockets and empty them of all contents.
- Zip up the jacket and place it in a special bag before washing.
Basic Rules
To ensure that your winter jacket retains its appearance, it is recommended to adhere to the basic washing rules.
How to wash down jackets:
- Examine the tag. On it you can find several types of icons: “Hand wash only”, “Delicate cleaning” and “Machine machine”.
- The temperature is chosen +30…+40 ⁰С. Too hot water leads to deformation of the item.
- It is better to wring out the product with your hands or by wrapping it in a large towel.
- Liquid detergents are chosen, since the powder is not washed out and leaves streaks.
- Dry jackets by laying them out on a horizontal surface away from radiators and direct sunlight.
Sintepon is a material that requires a delicate attitude. If you follow all the rules, the item will last more than one season.
Product preparation
Before washing, the item must be prepared. This will help avoid tearing of the fabric, the product will stretch better:
- Check pockets for money and other items.
- Unfasten the fur elements (collar, cuffs).
- Pre-soap visible stains with a product or treat them with a stain remover.
- Fasten the zipper of the jacket and turn the item inside out.
- Check all seams and sew them up if necessary so that the filling does not come out during washing.
To treat stains, use laundry soap and an old soft toothbrush. The soap is rubbed on a fine grater and diluted with warm water. It removes stains perfectly and leaves no streaks.
Washing features
Demi-season and winter outerwear made from synthetic padding differs not only in the amount of filler, but also in the quality of the outer fabric.
Material and washing features:
- Membrane . Only special products should be used. Do not clean frequently or use stain removers.
- Eco leather . Washing machine is prohibited. After delicate hand washing, the outside of the jacket should be thoroughly wiped with a dry cloth.
- Denim . Can be washed using any method. Do not use bleaches or stain removers.
- Peach-skin . The coating resembles fur. It is better to use hand wash and gentle care.
If the label indicates that the garment cannot be washed using any method, then dry cleaning is recommended. In this case, the item must be taken to dry cleaning.
The process of washing a winter jacket with synthetic padding is no different from caring for autumn outerwear. The main thing is to take into account the characteristics of the material from which the item is made and the recommendations on the label.

How to wash without leaving streaks
To ensure that there are no streaks left on your jacket after washing, you should choose the right detergent. Washing powder granules do not dissolve completely, so they are not washed out of the fabric.
What to use:
- liquid detergent for delicate fabrics;
- shampoo;
- liquid soap.
For down jackets, you can use products for colored fabrics. They help maintain the brightness of shades.
To ensure that there are no streaks left on the material, you need to rinse the product well in clean water. You can add 2-3 drops of hydrogen peroxide to the water.
How to fluff a jacket after washing
You can fluff the padding polyester in the following ways:
- Place the item in a bag and pump out the air from it, then use a vacuum cleaner to fill the bag with air again. Repeat the procedure 1-2 times. Take out the jacket and shake it.
- Changing temperatures helps. You should take the item out into the cold for 1 hour, then bring it into a warm place. After heating, shake and knead lightly with your hands.
- Using a hair dryer: treat the product with warm air for several minutes and smooth it out with your hands.
Features of care
Proper care will help preserve the thermal insulation properties of a down jacket for several seasons. Strong stains should be immediately washed with soapy water and dried during wear.
In order for the fabric and filling to serve for a long time, clothes should not be washed frequently. Any impact worsens the quality of impregnation of the material and reduces the heat transfer of the padding polyester.
During the season, you can wipe the down jacket with a damp sponge, then dry the jacket by hanging it on hangers.
Useful tips
To ensure that a thing made of artificial insulation is not damaged during the washing process, certain rules should be followed.
Do not use water temperatures above 40 °C to avoid damaging the insulation. If the padding polyester has gone astray after washing, treating the item with a bamboo stick or a carpet beater will correct the situation. Dry the jacket in a horizontal position, this will prevent deformation.
Items made with synthetic padding are comfortable to wear, have a beautiful appearance and are generally easy to care for. If you wash your faux insulation jacket correctly, it will retain its shape and serve you for a long time.
