Basic Rules
Pay attention to the basic rules for washing such items
Use cool water
Can it be washed in hot water? Definitely not! The best option for washing black clothes is no higher than 40 degrees, even if the label indicates that you can use hot water above 40C. Hot water wears out the fibers and causes the dye to quickly release from the fabric. Thus, clothes quickly fade and become gray.
Turn clothes inside out
When washing in a machine, clothes rub against each other, thus breaking down the fibers and removing the black color faster. The outer side is subject to less friction and the color of clothes lasts longer if things are turned inside out. Don't forget to fasten zippers and clasps.
Choose quality powder
How to wash black clothes? The stores have a varied selection of expensive and cheap powders. It is not necessary to purchase imported and expensive powders, but you should not buy cheap ones either, as they can leave streaks on clothes. Choose mid-grade powders or gels for washing dark clothes at low temperatures.
Sort by color and fabric type
Never wash black and colored clothes, as the dye may wash off from light and colored clothes. This leads to lightening of the black fabric. It is imperative to wash black clothes exclusively with other black items. At temperatures below 30 degrees, you can wash black and gray.
Also consider the type of fabric when washing. Light and natural fabric, such as silk, requires delicate washing at the lowest possible temperatures, unlike rough denim. By separating things not only by color, but also by type of fabric, you will protect it from premature demolition.
Do not overload the drum
Load the drum to a maximum of 2⁄3. This way, each item will be washed better, without leaving whitish streaks on the fabric from the powder.
Wash rarely and quickly
If you wash too often, your clothes will quickly begin to lose color and shape. Frequent washing causes the fabric to fade. To avoid rapid loss of bright color, skip washing items if possible. Do not rush to wash clothes after one wear, try to wear this item 4-5 times, and then wash it. If there is a whitish residue from the deodorant, it can be removed with a dry sponge.
In terms of time, things should be washed as quickly as possible. The sooner they go through the wash cycle, the greater the likelihood of color fastness and the absence of abrasion and pilling.
Wash in cold water
1. Wash clothes on a cold cycle.
wash
- The first advantage is that you save energy. In addition, you don’t have to worry about the cleanliness of the clothes you wash. Modern detergents allow you to wash stains and dirt even in cold water.
- If you have a good powder, the effectiveness of cold water is no less than that of hot water.
2. Use the usual amount of detergent even when washing in cold water.
wash
- Contrary to what you may have heard before, when washing on cold cycles, you don't need to use more powder to be more effective.
- Use the same amount of detergent as you are used to adding when washing in hot water.
3. You need to know when to use hot water.
wash
- If you need to disinfect things or wash them from heavy dirt, only in this case should you choose a hot water washing mode.
- It is recommended to select the hot mode when you wash, for example, kitchen or bath towels.
- In other words, items, prefer high temperatures if you need to wash items that collect more bacteria than other types of laundry.
In addition, proponents of cold water washing cite three more compelling arguments in favor of low temperatures:
-First, hot water spoils things.
Many have heard stories that it is hot water that disrupts the structure of fabric fibers.
First of all, this applies to woolen items, as well as a number of other delicate fabrics. Surely, some of us have encountered a situation where, after washing in hot water, a favorite cardigan shrunk hopelessly and could only be worn by a child - it suddenly became so small.
But a thing made of another material, on the contrary, after washing it stretched so much that it was just right to give it to your mother or older sister.
How do you like holes that formed not at the seam, but just out of the blue? Unfortunately, this situation is far from uncommon.
The main reason is fibers that become thinner under the influence of hot water. As a result, a few washes are enough for hot water to completely destroy the fibers, ruin the item and lead to the formation of those same holes.
Of course, an item with holes is a completely damaged item that cannot be restored.
-The second argument is that when washed in cold water, fabrics retain their color longer and do not fade.
washing
Again, each of us has had a situation when a bright red blouse suddenly lost its color and turned into a faded dirty burgundy thing. This happened because hot water has the ability to wash away bright and rich shades.
Ways to wash black clothes
The washing method, as well as the required temperature, are indicated on the tag. Before putting things in the washing machine or soaking them in a bowl, turn them inside out.
Handwash
Hand washing is recommended in the following cases:
- there is a symbol on the clothing label that prohibits machine washing;
- a black product is combined with light inserts;
- underwear;
- delicate fabric (cashmere, silk, chiffon, lace).
The optimal water temperature for hand washing is 40 °C, but the more delicate the item, the colder the water should be.
Some important tips for hand washing dark items:
- Do not pour washing powder or gel onto soaked clothes: active granules will ruin the structure of the fabric and its shade.
- Dark and black items need to be rinsed much longer than white or colored items.
- After thorough rinsing, delicate items are dried on a piece of cloth laid out on a flat surface.
- Mechanical impact on the fabric should be minimal to preserve the color and shape of the product.
Machine washable
The temperature for washing dark items is no more than 40°C. If the fabric of the product is delicate, the temperature is lowered.
After sorting by color and material, the clothes are turned inside out and placed in the drum of the machine. Load the machine no more than halfway with dark clothes: the fewer black clothes there are in the washing machine, the better they will be rinsed.
For clothes made of lace, wool and silk, choose the “delicate washing cycle”. Cotton and viscose are washed in standard modes.
To avoid white soapy streaks, at the end of the wash, set the “extra rinse” function on the program panel. Replace washing powder with a special gel - this will completely eliminate the appearance of white spots.
Additional tips:
- If there are old stains on clothes, they are pre-treated with a stain remover and then soaked in a basin.
- To prevent the fabric from losing color, add a little vinegar (1 tablespoon) to the conditioner compartment while rinsing.
Preparation before washing
Don’t forget about the main rule - you need to use the washing machine at least once a week, as parts can dry out if left idle for a long time.
Before you wash your clothes in an automatic washing machine, you need to remember a few simple rules. Let's get started?
Sorting laundry
First of all, we advise you to start by sorting dirty laundry into piles: colored, white, bed linen, shoes, heavily soiled and by type of fabric (silk, delicates). For hygiene reasons, we recommend separating adult and children's underwear. Other tips for sorting:
- divide items into 3 containers: children's items, adult items and delicate items that need hand washing;
- use ventilated laundry baskets;
- refrain from storing things in the drum of the machine;
- Before washing, be sure to read the labels on your clothes (recommended temperature and appropriate mode).
At the end of sorting, be sure to check all pockets to ensure there are no coins, toys or stationery in them. Do not forget to disconnect metal accessories: chains, key rings and similar additional items of clothing.
Important: Before washing bedding in the washing machine, turn out your pillowcases and duvet covers. And in the case of clothes, tie all the laces, fasten the fasteners, straighten the sleeves, and turn the pants and jeans inside out.
Preparing heavily soiled laundry
We suggest you deal with heavy stains on your clothes. Before washing in the washing machine, pre-soak heavily soiled items with stain remover. Further:
- wash dirty areas by hand;
- rinse the item in cold water;
- Now you can safely load things into the drum.
For more effective results, add stain remover to the special compartment in your machine.
Selecting a program
We've dealt with dirty things, let's talk in more detail about choosing a washing program and how long it takes a washing machine to wash.
- Wool and delicates - approximate wash time is 60 minutes. In this mode, the maximum load of items is 1.5 kg (but it all depends on the manufacturer). The SM itself selects the temperature - 30 degrees.
- Cotton and similar materials - this mode is considered universal and washes almost everything: towels, T-shirts, bed linen and underwear. You can set additional soaking, rinsing, select the number of revolutions and adjust the degrees. Washing time is within 2 hours.
- Everyday wash - suitable for refreshing lightly soiled items. The washing process takes up to 40 minutes.
We have listed typical modes for a Samsung washing machine, but each model has its own options and different washing times. Do not forget to take into account the maximum load of laundry per cycle (for example, up to 5 kg).
What types of detergents are there?
For both colored and black items, there are a huge number of different detergents aimed at maintaining color saturation, brightness, and the like.
Today, modern stores offer a wide range of “universal” detergents, which are not recommended to be used too often when washing specifically black laundry, as this can lead to the formation of marks, stains, streaks or cause the development of an allergic reaction (due to residues chemical on the surface). To avoid streaks, stains and other troubles, it is for this reason that various gels or chemical liquids are added to the washing machine (more reliable and convenient). Usually, high-quality detergents contain a special dye that maintains and restores the color of the fabric.
Among these tools that have proven themselves well are:
- “Domal Black Fashion” is a rather expensive, but very effective air conditioner (the price ranges from three hundred and fifty rubles).
- “Domal” – is a powder (in liquid state), designed to renew and maintain color.
- Gel "Laska" - has a fairly pleasant (rich) aroma, is used for synthetic, cotton linen, and is also added to the washing machine when washing down jackets.
- “Burti noir” is a German-made detergent, used to restore its original appearance, and has many positive reviews.
The above is only a small part of those wonderful tools that cope well with various tasks. Their main differences are efficiency, quality and, of course, price. Often such funds flash on TV screens during advertisements.
Cold water increases the shelf life of items
You must understand that when exposed to high temperatures, fabric loses its rich color faster. In addition, the rate of its wear increases significantly. You've probably already noticed that things that you regularly wash in hot water deteriorate faster and lose their bright color after a few washes.
The choice of detergent you use for washing matters a lot. There is a high probability that the difference between hot and cold water will be insignificant. Most modern detergents wash clothes perfectly even in cold water, so there is no point in overpaying for electricity and shortening the life of your items by accelerating their wear.
What clothes should be washed by hand?
There are various items that can be washed by hand.
Shawls
Most people wash handkerchiefs not in automatic machines, but with their hands. To begin with, they are thoroughly cleared of dust and debris, and then cleaned with a brush. The scarf is then placed in a soapy solution to soak. After half an hour, it is washed and rinsed.
Scarves
It is recommended to wash scarves by hand, as this is quite easy to do. To remove stains from them, just place them in a bowl of hot water or soapy water for half an hour. If the stain on the scarf has become embedded in the fabric, you can use a brush.
Natural silk blouses
Silk products are very capricious, and therefore they must be washed carefully. First, the water is boiled, after which it is cooled to thirty-five degrees
Then add a little shampoo with laundry soap or powder to the water. When the mixture in the basin becomes homogeneous, you can start washing.
Sweatshirts, sweaters, pullovers made of wool
It is also contraindicated to wash woolen products in boiling water, and therefore it is better to use lukewarm water heated to forty degrees. Washing powder or gel is added to it to clean woolen clothes.
Cashmere products
Before washing, the container is filled with warm liquid, which is mixed with detergents. Then the dirty cashmere items are dipped into the water and soaked for 20-30 minutes. Cashmere fabric should not be rubbed to prevent it from becoming deformed.
Delicate lingerie and lace
Delicate lace underwear needs proper care. To remove stains from it, you need to fill a basin with warm water and washing powder. Then the laundry is soaked in it for about 10-15 minutes. Rinse to remove remaining traces of dirt.
Preparatory activities
You have to wash it manually when the washing machine suddenly breaks down, when it is not nearby (on a business trip, in a hostel, in a rented apartment).
Small items and underwear can be quickly refreshed under the tap using laundry soap. To organize and carry out a large wash, you will have to be well prepared.
For this you will need:
- two plastic containers (basins) – we wash in one, rinse in the other;
- suitable detergent;
- fabric softener;
- bleach, stain remover;
- brush, washboard (for washing heavily soiled areas);
- rubber gloves to protect the skin of the hands;
- clothespins for hanging laundry to dry.
The next preparatory stage is sorting dirty laundry. It consists of externally examining things and arranging them by color and type of fabric.
Inspection is needed to identify the most contaminated places and stains in order to pay more attention to them during washing, as well as to check the contents of pockets for the presence of coins, bills, documents, tissues, and small items.
After this, you can proceed directly to the process.
In order not to change the water after each load of laundry, start with the least dirty, light-colored items. Then colored linen. Black or heavily soiled clothes are washed last. If the solution quickly becomes dirty, it is better to replace it immediately.
How to prepare laundry for washing
We first clean things from excess dust, lint, animal hair and other small debris. We study the information on the tag. She will tell you what kind of washing - hand or machine - and what temperature conditions are acceptable. It is advisable to wash a new item of clothing by hand for the first time. It will be clear whether he sheds or not. We turn things inside out and be sure to sort them, that is, separate the dark ones from the light and colored ones.
We do not recommend mixing gray with dark, black with blue, red with black, black with color, and especially with white in one container - a machine drum or basin. Such experiments can lead to the fact that the clothes fade, and if you are not a fan of surrealism, its new color is unlikely to please you.
Black and white items, such as a jacket or dark dress with white polka dots, sweatpants and a sweater, should be separated from the rest. Is it possible to wash jeans along with dark clothing items? Yes, if they are black. Otherwise, we wash them together with things of the same color.
If there are stains on the laundry, first remove them and only then wash them. We deal with severe stains either using a stain remover or using home methods:
- For example, traces of grease retreat under the pressure of dishwashing liquid;
- Table salt, acetic acid and lemon juice will help remove light deodorant stains;
- Soaking the item in a salt solution will help remove blood stains;
- A 50:50 mixture of glycerin and water will remove ice cream marks.
Wash in hot water
washing
Our grandmothers and mothers also taught us that we only need to wash with hot water, since cold water cannot cope with heavy dirt and therefore is not able to properly wash the item.
In addition, washing powder will not dissolve in cold water! This is exactly what the older generation assured us. These main arguments lead us to ultimately prefer hot water.
However, with the advent of modernized automatic washing machines into our lives, many things have changed, including many people’s ideas about washing.
And as it turns out, cold washing has its advantages, which many of us had no idea about.
Experts estimate that up to 90 percent of the cost of doing laundry comes from the energy you use to run your water heater! Conserve water when washing (and save money) by switching the water temperature to cold.
Rules of care
In order for white items to last a long time, you need to know the basic rules of care:
- wash and remove stains from white linen in a timely manner, send for storage only in clean form;
- Yellow stains often appear on folded items; it is better to store clothes on hangers;
- Washing for white laundry is not enough; to prevent the item from turning gray, it is periodically bleached;
- Before washing white in the machine, you should rinse it by running the “Rinse” mode;
- White items do not like long-term storage (they turn yellow for no reason), they need to be worn.
For washing, you should choose special detergents for white laundry.
White things make you look younger, refresh, and give a person chic and aristocracy. To do this, the clothes must be in perfectly clean condition. When buying white, you need to remember that you will have to wash things often, so you should stock up on detergents in advance and familiarize yourself with the care instructions.

When can you not do without hot water?
It may seem that experts recommend completely avoiding the use of hot water when washing clothes. This is not true at all.
Sometimes you really can't do without hot water. For example, when you need to get rid of dust mites. Even if you regularly wash your clothes with cold water, occasionally run the wash on a high temperature to get rid of detergent residue and mildew and give your washing machine longer life.
It is also worth paying attention to the tags attached to each item of clothing, which indicate the recommended washing temperature and other information that will be useful when caring for items that have to be washed regularly.

What do detergent manufacturers offer?
Several types of special products are available for the care of black underwear.
All-purpose powders or powders designed for colored fabrics can leave streaks, white marks, and cause allergies due to small particles of chemicals and surfactants remaining in the folds.
Therefore, it is more convenient and reliable to wash it with liquid or gel-like compounds. They contain the appropriate dye to restore color, the remaining components fix it, carefully caring for and caring for the condition of the fabric.
To use them, you don’t need to wait for your favorite outfit to fade and lose its attractiveness. It is better to use special tools from the very beginning. Among them:
- Gel “Laska” - for cotton, synthetics, down jackets, easy to rinse, but many people do not like the rich smell;
- Perwoll - makes the color brighter, copes with stains on shirts and bedding, but is not super effective;
- Domal Black Fashion is an expensive but very effective liquid for washing outerwear;
- Dreft Luxurious black - does not contain fragrances, performs its functions efficiently, reviews about it are positive;
- Domal is a liquid powder, not cheap, but it renews color well;
- Burti noir - German quality, returns things to their original black, excellent customer reviews.
There are many more similar means, it’s impossible to list them all. They differ in quality, efficiency, and cost. You can learn about many of them from frequent commercials.
Determining which from this list is better to use can only be done by trial. For some, the main criterion is the result, for others it is the price. But the choice is great, everyone will find the most suitable way.
How can you restore color?
To restore color, you should use effective folk recipes.
Tobacco infusion
To prepare the infusion, take 15 grams of tobacco and add 1 liter of warm water. Then pour the infusion into the water while washing. After manipulation, it is recommended to rinse things well. To do this, it is recommended to use conditioner. This will help remove the unpleasant odor.
Dyes
Such compositions are recommended to be used only as a last resort. They are only suitable for dense materials.
Vinegar
This product does not restore color, but preserves it. Thanks to this, it is possible to avoid washing out the dye from the fabric. Experts advise using 1 large spoon of the substance per 1 liter of water. In this case, the product should be kept in the solution for at least half an hour. During the last rinse, add conditioner to the water.
Ground black pepper
To maintain color fastness, you can add 1-2 small spoons of black pepper to the washing machine. Rinsing will wash off the pepper.
Use of folk remedies
Who among us doesn’t remember grandma’s snow-white, starched pillowcases and clean, frost-smelling bed linen?
But they did all this with their hands, using folk remedies, tricks, and secrets. For those who prefer to do without chemicals in household chores, we can remind you of some folk recipes:
- Ash is perhaps the most ancient substance for this. It was added to water in a canvas bag, white linen was placed there, and it was boiled in a special tub on the stove. Then they were rinsed and hung out in the cold or laid out in the snow. Nature made things snow-white.
- After the advent of laundry soap, it was indispensable for hand washing for a long time; its solution was used in activator-type machines before the advent of powders and later. This soap removes dirt well due to its high alkali content.
- Mustard has long been used for silk and woolen items; it works less well with cotton. First, prepare a solution of 20–25 grams of dry mustard powder and 1 liter of warm (not higher than 400) water. After three hours, the liquid is carefully drained, it can be washed, it foams well and cleans.
- Bean decoction - 200 g per 1 liter of water, boil the beans, beat the decoction until foamy, use for soaking and washing.
- Soap root of the saponaria plant. It will take time to prepare a soap solution from it. It is split into fibers, brewed with boiling water, left for a day, the liquid is drained, boiled again, and filtered. After this it is ready for use. The resulting composition cannot be stored; it quickly deteriorates.
- Potatoes, soap nuts, horse chestnut powder, and regular table salt are also used.
- Instead of conditioner, use salt or ammonia, the laundry will be softer.
- To wash heavily soiled, for example, work clothes, borax and trisodium are added to the solution. There are ways to use sunflower stems (their ash), sunflower oil, and hydrogen peroxide. These folk recipes, without unnecessary chemicals, will help maintain the health of family members and protect nature from the influence of phosphates and other harmful components of synthetic detergents.
Benefits of hand washing
Having learned how to properly wash things by hand, many begin to find undoubted advantages in this method. In a washing machine, for example, until the end of the cycle it is impossible to control:
- Is there enough detergent;
- Is the laundry rinsed well?
- Has the stain come off?
For some, this is already an outdated method. In an age of universal employment and an acute lack of free time, an automatic car is a panacea. But hand washing still has a lot of advantages:
- Clothes can be pre-soaked, and areas of heavy contamination can be additionally rubbed with a brush or hands.
- Items made from delicate fabrics must be washed exclusively by hand, just like hand-knitted items or fine knitwear.
- The big advantage is the additional expenditure of our energy, the burning of calories due to the efforts made, a kind of fitness that those losing weight will really like.
- The process takes much less time than in an automatic machine.
- Linen wears out less.
Both types of washing have advantages and disadvantages. No one is calling for people to give up washing machines. They make housework a lot easier.
But the manual method still remains indispensable.
You just need to know its basic rules, techniques and a few secrets. Then the result and clean favorite things will delight you for a long time. [Total: 2 Average: 3.5/5]
Washing dark clothes with others
To get reliable information about washing a specific item, read the instructions on the label sewn into one of the inner seams of the product.
Colored
Colored items are washed separately from black items to preserve the richness of the shades. If your clothes combine several colors, select powder for colored laundry and wash this item separately from others.
White
If machine washing is intended, at the preparatory stage the items are sorted by color and type of fabric. White items are very easily soiled and should be washed separately from black and colored items. But what if there are white elements on black clothes? It is better to dry clean a delicate, expensive item, but in any case, machine washing will have to be excluded.
Gray
It is highly undesirable to wash black and gray in a washing machine. Black stains may appear on gray clothes that will be impossible to get rid of.
Rules for removing stains
Established stains are much more difficult to remove than fresh stains, so you should not delay stain removal. Ideally, treat the item immediately after dirt appears on it. It is better to first test any product on an inconspicuous underside area so as not to spoil your favorite T-shirt.
Yellowness
Yellow stains are especially noticeable on white T-shirts. The reason for their appearance is different: it is washing in too hot water, low-quality household chemicals or its excess, and insufficient rinsing. Oxygen bleaches help with yellowness, and folk remedies include soda, vinegar or hydrogen peroxide.
Traces of sweat
Fresh stains can be washed off well with laundry soap. Old traces of sweat respond to hydrogen peroxide. To do this, you need to wet the T-shirt, then treat the stain with peroxide, and rinse the cleaned item thoroughly.
Rust
Lemon is a good choice for removing rust stains. Apply the juice to the stain by rubbing the rust trace with a lemon slice, then sprinkle with salt and leave until dry. Remains of dirt are removed with peroxide and washed in cool water.
Traces of deodorant
Old deodorant stains respond well to salt. Sprinkle a damp cloth with the product and leave for 10-12 hours, rub with salt and wash as usual. The method is suitable for both light and dark materials.
Complex contaminants
Complex stains can be removed using both professional household chemicals and traditional methods. After using products with a strong smell, such as vinegar or gasoline, the T-shirt should be well ventilated.
Wine or juice
If red wine or fruit juice has been spilled on your favorite T-shirt, the first thing you should do is try to remove as much liquid as possible. To do this, place a napkin or sprinkle with salt on the stain. The stain treated in this way can then be easily washed off.
Marker
To remove a marker stain from a T-shirt without leaving a trace, you need to know the composition of the felt-tip pen base. Traces of alcohol markers are treated with a cotton pad soaked in alcohol, vodka or cologne, then washed in a soap solution.
Paint-based marker stains will be dissolved using acetone, nail polish remover, gasoline or white spirit. The solvent is applied to the marker mark, left for an hour, and washed with powder or soap. If necessary, the procedure is repeated several times. The easiest way to remove dirt from water-based and chalk-based markers. The stain is soaked in ordinary dishwashing detergent for half an hour, then washed in the usual way.
Gum
The easiest way to remove gum stuck to a T-shirt is to use cold water. To do this, put the item in a bag and put it in the freezer for several hours, after which the dirt is scraped off.
Blood
It is important to remember that the blood is washed off with cold water so that it does not “cook.” Fresh dirt is washed with running water, then washed with detergent.
Old stains are soaked overnight in a soda or weak saline solution.
Fat
Fat is removed using various means, from laundry soap to bread crumbs.
To get rid of old stains, you will need a stronger solvent. Traces of fat are treated with your choice of gasoline, turpentine or vinegar, wetting the stain and leaving it to act for some time. The item must then be rinsed thoroughly.
Lipstick
Lipstick prints are removed from white cotton T-shirts using hydrogen peroxide, which is applied to the stain for a quarter of an hour, and then the item is washed with soap. Delicate fabrics are treated with toothpaste.
Varnish
The easiest way to remove nail polish stains is to use nail polish remover, but only a non-acetone solution is suitable for delicate fabrics. Gel polish is removed from natural fabric with white spirit. A homemade stain remover, suitable even for synthetics, can be obtained by mixing ammonia, olive oil and turpentine in equal parts. The product is applied for 10 minutes, after which the T-shirt is washed in the usual way.
Solving problems after incorrect color matching during washing
If the shades are incorrectly combined during washing, there is a risk of various problems arising.
With red
To restore the normal shade of clothes, they should be washed immediately with laundry soap. Then the item should be soaked in warm soapy water for half an hour. To return the red pigment, the product is placed in a special solution. To do this, it is recommended to dissolve 20 grams of vinegar 9% and soda in 1 liter of clean water.
Blue or cyan
In this case, it is recommended to use Antilinin. The composition is suitable for restoring things that have accidentally become stained. Ordinary blue will also help restore the blue color. The volume of the substance is selected individually.
Yellow
You can restore the yellow tint with the help of an orange infusion. To prepare it, place the pan on the stove. After boiling, add a little orange peel to it. When the broth has infused for 40 minutes, you can immerse the painted item in it. The product should be soaked for 30-40 minutes.
Green
To restore the green tint, it is recommended to immerse the item in cool water. First, it is recommended to dissolve alum in it.
Brown or beige
Soaking in black tea will help restore the shade of such clothes. The amount of brewing is determined taking into account the intensity of the original color.
White
If dye gets on white clothing, it is recommended to treat the stained area with peroxide. After half an hour, the item should be washed in automatic mode. It is recommended to use oxygen-containing bleach.
How to wash black clothes to restore color
To give clothes a more saturated color, soak them for half an hour in a solution of acetic acid. A pinch of salt added to the washing powder will serve the same purpose.
Ground natural coffee dissolved in boiling water will help restore color. We immerse items of clothing in it for 20-30 minutes, after which we clean them with a delicate laundry care product.
When washing by hand, black ink will help add a bright color to the fabric. Add a small amount of it and a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to the water and rinse the clothes for the last time in this solution.
Saturation will also return if, after washing in a machine or by hand, you keep the laundry in a soda solution for 10-15 minutes.
As you can see, washing black items correctly is not that difficult. Use our tips and you will always look well-groomed in your favorite clothes.

Interesting to know
In this section, we have prepared interesting tricks that you need to consider before washing things in the machine. More details about notes:
- wash small clothes with small clothes, and large clothes with large ones, so that there is no imbalance in the drum;
- remove any remaining water and dirt from the rubber seal and do not forget to rinse the powder compartment (it can be removed);
- If you are not sure that the item does not shed, lower its edge into a container of water and wait for the reaction. If the water is not colored, feel free to throw it into the drum;
- try not to load the SM to the maximum, this may reduce the service life of the mechanisms;
- in case of washing bed linen or shoes, use a special bag;
- do not forget to check the pockets of your things for foreign objects;
- always fasten zippers and pockets on clothing;
- Avoid washing leather shoes in the washing machine—this process could cost you your favorite sneakers.
Now you know how to machine wash, what rules you need to follow and how to sort clothes correctly. After the first two washes, you will understand the whole process and will even be able to share your experience.
General rules of care
To successfully wash black clothes, it is recommended to carry out the preparatory procedures correctly. First of all, you should sort your things. To do this, delicate fabrics are separated from coarser ones - jackets or jeans.
You should definitely remove unnecessary items from your clothing pockets. It is recommended to turn things inside out. With mechanical influence, the dye can be washed out, and the fibers are often damaged. By turning the clothes inside out, it is possible to avoid the rapid loss of color of the fabric.
For cotton shirts and trousers, it is recommended to use the Quick Wash or Cotton program. For dresses or linens made of delicate fabrics, you should select manual mode. The first wash should be done by hand to determine the product’s reaction to exposure to water.
To choose the right mode for caring for things, you should read the information on the product label. It is recommended to wash black items at a temperature of no more than 30-40 degrees. Exposure to warm water risks discoloring the fibers.
It is recommended to select spin parameters taking into account the mode. It is worth considering that delicate fabrics such as silk or cashmere should not be wrung out.
Folk remedies
Folk remedies - effective and safe removal of contaminants from any material. Depending on the freshness and intensity of the stains, different methods of dealing with them may be needed.
Fresh tracks
Fresh marks are the easiest to clean. That is why, if there is time and opportunity, it is best to immediately begin the fight against pollution. The first and easiest way is to quickly place the cloth with the stain under a stream of hot water (the contaminated area should be under pressure).
If it is not possible to completely get rid of the contamination, the following methods will be useful:
- Stretch the contaminated item over a container, such as a basin or large saucepan. Carefully pour the solution on top of the stain. It needs to be made from a spoonful of vinegar, which is diluted in a glass of water.
- Use a piece of cloth or cotton swab dipped in vinegar. This method is especially good if there are small or pinpoint stains on colored clothing.
- Dampen the stain with lemon juice and wash the item thoroughly in warm water by hand.
In addition, you can immediately soak the item with a fresh stain in cold mineral water. An alternative is a solution of baking soda and water. After 20-30 minutes, you can wash the item of clothing in hot water. Instead of powder, you can use dishwashing liquid.
Old stains
Old stains appear in cases where it is not possible to immediately begin removing stains from apple juice or puree. Don't worry, you can remove dried stains. Proven methods will help with this:
- Lemon acid. This is a unique remedy that helps with various old stains. The washing process is extremely simple: you need to put the item in a basin or pan, sprinkle it generously with acid until a slide forms. Pour a little boiling water on top of the stains and leave to soak for 25-30 minutes. After this, children's clothes must be washed in a suitable way.
- Glycerin and vodka. Both products need to be taken in equal quantities, mixed and applied to the stained area (to do this, use a cotton pad or a piece of rag). After 5-10 minutes, you can wash the clothes in warm water with the addition of baby laundry detergent or laundry soap shavings.
- Ammonia and water. Both products are mixed in equal quantities. The solution should be applied to the contaminated area for 2-3 minutes. After this, the clothes must be washed in soapy water by hand. This method works well for white items.
- Ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. First, you need to thoroughly moisten the stain in a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution. Then the old stain should be wiped with a piece of cotton wool soaked in ammonia. Now all that remains is to rinse the product in warm water.
Universal extra little secrets
A few important secrets.
Vinegar won't hurt
Add about 1 cup of 9% vinegar to the washing machine drum while rinsing dark items to restore color. This universal household product will not only help maintain color durability, but will also soften things. This also helps remove any remaining powder from the fabric, thereby preventing possible streaks. During rinsing and drying, the vinegar will evaporate without leaving the slightest odor.
Kitchen salt can be added not only to food
Regular table salt can also be used for washing. It prevents color and black dyes from being washed out of fabrics. Use this technique to wash brand new clothes, and the color will last much longer. This product also helps remove powder residue. Add half the bowl to the machine drum before washing, and your clothes will last longer.
Use ground black pepper
1-2 teaspoons of ground black pepper will help maintain color durability and prevent it from fading. All you need to do is add it to the drum of your washing machine before washing. During the penultimate phase of the cycle, the pepper will be washed away.
Coffee is not only drunk (as is tea)
Brew half a liter of coffee drink or black tea and pour it into the drum compartment while rinsing clothes. This will help strengthen the black dye on dark fabric and visually darken the overall tones of the garment.
Use baking soda on clothes
Before rinsing your clothes, pour half a cup of baking soda into the drum compartment, and the soda will help preserve the color of the clothes or even brighten them a little.
