Latex pillows from Thailand: reviews, advice on selection and care

Latex pillows have long been recognized among modern people, and this is not surprising, because latex has a wide list of advantages that simply cannot be ignored. The main advantages include hypoallergenicity, thanks to which even allergy sufferers can use latex pillows. Such pillows do not become a breeding ground for dangerous bacteria, dust mites and microorganisms. Also, latex pillows have a porous structure, due to which they conduct air well and do not absorb unpleasant odors. All this is good, but not everyone knows how to wash a latex pillow so that it does not deteriorate after washing. This guide will help you understand how to wash latex pillows correctly.

Is it possible to wash latex pillows at home?

The most important question that needs to be dealt with right away is whether latex pillows can be washed? Of course, the manufacturers themselves do not recommend doing this in a washing machine, but sellers assure that, if necessary, you can wash such pillows several times a year. What opinion should you follow? Everyone decides for themselves, but truly natural latex is afraid of only three things that should be avoided:

  • Ultraviolet radiation, high temperatures. You should not leave latex pillows under the sun's rays, especially direct sunlight - after such exposure, sticky brown spots may form on the surface of the pillow, which will be extremely difficult to remove. Also, from ultraviolet radiation and high temperatures, latex pillows can lose their original shape and even change structure.
  • Freezing. Latex becomes brittle if exposed to temperatures below -40 degrees for a long time. At the same time, the latex begins to crack and break; when pressed, the pillow will forever lose its shape.
  • Wash in hot water. Latex pillows react especially poorly to hot water and chemicals. It is not recommended to wash latex pillows in water hotter than 40 degrees

Can latex pillows be washed in a washing machine? It's better not to do this if you value your products. Manufacturers allow latex pillows to be washed by hand, but they should not be wrung out so that they do not lose their shape forever. So, now let’s figure out how to wash latex pillows from Thailand.

  2. Shape and relief. The products are able to conform to the sleeping positions. The versatile rectangular wave type is designed for back sleepers. There are bolsters that support the cervical spine. Those who like to sleep on their side can choose bone pillows.
  3. Size. Suitable height for women is 8-10 cm, for men – 10-14. For teenagers, pillows can be 8-11 cm. Often, orthopedic doctors do not recommend that children under 7 years old choose these pillows.
  4. Material and removability of the cover. It is advisable to choose cotton, velor, and knitwear with a zipper, which make cleaning easier. Quality products include bamboo pillowcases with antimicrobial impregnation.

Each person has personal sleep preferences. To determine whether a product is suitable, it must be tested for comfort. When choosing, you need to consider that:

  1. Low options are not suitable for broad shoulders.
  2. If you have constant pain in the neck and shoulder girdle, you should choose a higher altitude.
  3. For those who like to sleep on their back, it is advisable to choose options with a low layer of filler.

How to determine whether latex is natural or synthetic?

Before you wash a latex pillow from Thailand, you need to make sure that your product is actually made from natural latex, which requires special care conditions. Adviсe:

  • The product must have a special tag on which the full name of the manufacturer must be indicated and 100% Latex must be written. Otherwise it is a blend or synthetic.
  • Pillows made from natural latex always have a porous matte surface. Also, new pillows may emit a faint smell of powdered milk, which quickly disappears. If the pillow is pure white, smooth and with a glossy sheen, it is most likely a regular fake.
  • Products made from natural latex practically do not absorb water, while products made from artificial latex or a mixture absorb moisture like a sponge. This is one of the easiest ways to distinguish original latex.

Now that you know how to distinguish a product made from natural latex from any other materials, it’s time to move on to learning how to wash a latex pillow. Despite the fact that there are no special tricks in this matter, it is necessary to carefully study the recommendations so that the product does not deteriorate after washing.

What you need to know about Thai latex

Without going into production details, latex in mattresses is rubber foamed using a special technology. Rubber is obtained from rubber-bearing Hevea trees, which grow in huge groves in East Asia. Despite its Brazilian roots, Hevea has adapted well to Asia and thrives in the East Asian climate. Natural latex was first used to make mattresses in 1926. It was at that time that technology was developed that made it possible to make an elastic, elastic material from juice.

Every day, plantation workers in Thailand make special cuts and hang metal containers to collect rubber sap, which is then sent to factories throughout the country for further processing.

Latex mattresses and pillows have a number of advantages.

  • Unlike other natural fillers, such as wool, feathers or down, latex is much more durable.
  • This is an antibacterial, hypoallergenic material (latex allergy is a rare occurrence).
  • Foamed latex acquires high anatomical and orthopedic characteristics.
  • Special production technology - Talalay - allows you to make products with excellent breathability (air circulation).

All these advantages taken together provide latex products with stable popularity and demand for decades!

Machine or manual?

Now the most important thing: how to wash latex pillows so as not to spoil such a fragile but incredibly comfortable filler. Due to the described temperature restrictions, manufacturers do not recommend washing latex products in washing machines. They are recommended for hand washing only.

How to wash

The process of washing a latex pillow looks like this:

  1. Take a spacious basin and fill it with warm water. Remember the limit: no higher than 40°C!
  2. Add 1 cap of liquid detergent to the water for delicate items, even children’s items. Regular powder is absolutely not suitable.
  3. Stir thoroughly until completely dissolved and thick foam forms.
  4. Place the pillow in the water and let the water absorb.
  5. We wash as delicately as possible: press lightly and then release so that the detergent enters the pores of the latex and washes out the accumulated dirt.
  6. Lightly scrub especially dirty and greasy areas with a brush.
  7. At the end, lift the pillow over the pelvis and squeeze it out slightly. You cannot twist it, because the material will lose its shape.

Latex is porous, airy and lends itself perfectly to such processing.

Advantages of Thai latex pillows

When choosing Thai pillows with latex filling, you should make sure that the material is natural. Such information must be indicated in the product label and annotations from the manufacturer. From here you can also learn about the conditions of use and care of bedding, as well as how to wash a latex pillow.

Natural latex has a characteristic smell of milk powder and a matte surface. The color of the material can be gray or cream shades. A glossy, white surface usually indicates a fake material.

The filler has a porous structure that practically does not absorb water. Thanks to this, moisture and perspiration quickly evaporate from the pillow. The product is well ventilated, and dust does not accumulate in the pores with smooth internal surfaces. Due to the smell, properties of the material, the absence of moisture and dust, unfavorable conditions are created inside the filler for the habitation of linen mites and microorganisms harmful to health.

The guarantee of Thai latex pillows is 10 years. With proper care and cleaning of products, their service life can be several decades. The disadvantages of such pillows include the fact that they do not heat up well and do not retain heat for a long time. However, the environmental properties that are beneficial to the body, the comfortable position of the neck and head during use, and optimal ventilation neutralize this relative shortcoming of Thai products.

Advantages of Thai latex

Pillows and mattresses made from Thai latex are no exception in relation to the advantages already listed. Just like any products made from 100% latex, they:

  • Strong and durable. The service life with proper care will be up to 20-30 years.
  • Provide excellent support to the human spine during sleep. Helps relax all muscle groups. They do not squeeze blood vessels, which means they do not interfere with blood circulation.
  • They do not make any extraneous noise.
  • Thanks to the porous structure, which provides excellent ventilation, the products remain comfortable at any time of the year.
  • They do not attract or accumulate dust.
  • They are not a favorable environment for dangerous microorganisms, which is why they are considered hypoallergenic.
  • Not subject to subsidence and pit formation. Retains the specified shape throughout its entire service life.

At the same time, latex has several disadvantages, which, however, can be considered conditional. As a rule, they do not in any way influence the consumer’s final decision to purchase the product.

  • High price. The base product is 100% latex - not a cheap pleasure. From one Hevea tree you can collect only 350 grams of juice per day.
  • Latex mattresses do not tolerate abnormal temperatures well. Both heat and frost can seriously deform the product.

Rules for caring for latex pillows

You can extend the life of Thai pillows filled with natural latex using simple rules for caring for the products:

  • change pillowcases regularly;
  • periodically beat and ventilate the product;
  • immediately after fresh dirt stains appear, wipe them with a damp sponge or soft, clean cloth;
  • remember that latex begins to deteriorate at ambient temperatures below -40° and above +40°.

Bedding is in direct contact with the human body. Dirty, stale laundry can cause skin diseases and respiratory tract diseases. To do this, you should use a number of practical experience-tested recommendations for washing such items.

Washing latex pillows

It should be immediately noted that latex pillows are strictly not recommended to be washed in a washing machine.

Machine processing loads lead to disruption of the structure of the material, its damage and destruction, loss of shape and properties of the product. Only hand washing of such pillows is allowed.

Wash pillows with latex filling in this way:

  1. A container of suitable volume is filled with warm water not exceeding +40°.
  2. Detergent for hand washing colorless items is completely dissolved in water. Do not use powders and compositions containing aggressive chemical components and bleaches. It is advisable to use natural-based gels and liquids.
  3. Immerse the pillow in the cleaning solution and thoroughly wipe its surface from dirt with your hands, a sponge or a brush with soft natural bristles. In this case, the product should not be subjected to strong mechanical stress. Wipe the pillow carefully, without strong friction or squeezing.
  4. After washing, rinse the pillow with clean water.

At the end of washing and rinsing, the product can only be slightly squeezed with your hands so that the filler does not lose its shape. The water should be allowed to drain naturally.

Production technology

Natural latex is currently foamed using one of two technologies, which determine the final characteristics and price of the product.

Dunlop

Classic technology that has been used “from the beginning” of production, namely since 1926. The essence of the process was described above. Less expensive technology. The output product is denser and more elastic. Air permeability and softness are increased due to perforation.

Talalay

More modern, refined technology with several intermediate stages added to Dunlop. The air is pumped out from the latex composition that is foamed and poured into molds. After this, the material is subjected to rapid, hermetically sealed freezing, which results in a change in the structure of the material (some of the cells burst). This is followed by the supply of carbon dioxide, vulcanization, cooling, washing, spinning and drying. A longer and more expensive process results in a softer, more porous and ventilated filler.

Conditions for drying a latex pillow

To preserve the properties and shape of latex pillows, it is necessary to comply with certain drying conditions for such products. It is recommended to dry them in a horizontal position, using clean, hard surfaces. You can speed up the process of removing moisture by using terry towels or fabrics that absorb moisture well, wrapping them around a latex pillow. As the towel or cloth becomes damp, it should be replaced with dry items.

During drying, the pillow must be periodically turned over and beaten with light movements to give the filler its original shape. The ambient temperature should not be higher or lower than values destructive for latex. The product can be dried in the room or in the fresh air, but away from heat-generating appliances and in places without direct exposure to ultraviolet rays. You can speed up drying by using a fan or hair dryer in the cold air flow mode.

Proper washing, drying and caring for Thai latex pillows made from natural latex will ensure that all the positive properties of the material for the body are preserved for many years.

Flaws

Although latex pillows have many advantages, they have disadvantages:

  1. They may seem uncomfortable at first as they take some getting used to.
  2. When starting to use there may be a specific smell.
  3. Allergies may occur in people who cannot tolerate the proteins contained in the composition.
  4. The product may not be available to everyone due to cost.
  5. In cold weather, the products do not heat up, so they do not provide warmth like down pillows.

Often, manufacturers located far from growing trees use ammonia during transportation to preserve the properties of liquid latex. Although when creating latex foam, ammonia is not removed from it, the amount of natural material is also reduced (up to 20%). Synthetics are stronger, more convenient to transport, and they speed up polymerization, although the initial properties of latex change.

Review Reviews

Doctors give the highest ratings to the orthopedic latex roller. Moreover, they often include its use as part of complex therapy for diseases of the neck and spine. However, before purchasing such a product, it is advisable to consult your doctor. The doctor will help you choose the right shape and type of roller that will give the desired effect in each specific situation. Buying such a pillow is not cheap, so you should choose it carefully.

Products from trusted brands are exceptionally useful. It manifests itself in normalizing sleep, reducing pain and muscle tension, and eliminating allergies. People who try a latex bolster usually never go back to traditional pillows. But those who bought a fake of poor quality noticed that it did not bring them any benefit at all. Therefore, it is very important at the stage of choosing a product to be able to determine its quality and authenticity.

Some compare latex pillows with polyurethane foam products. Polyurethane foam is a derivative of petroleum products, in other words, foamed plastic. Its advantages include firmness, elasticity, hypoallergenicity and affordable price. This is a good alternative to a latex pillow for users who want to save money. However, in comparison with natural latex, it has a number of disadvantages:

  • lasts 3 times less;
  • has a weak orthopedic effect.

Thus, the latex roller is the leader in all respects, except for price. But if we are talking about health, then saving is inappropriate.

Advantages and disadvantages of using a pillow

If you suffer from allergies or suffer from pain in the neck after sleep, then it is recommended to have a latex pillow in your arsenal. Before choosing a product, it is important to make sure whether it is natural latex or not. Often labels or inserts indicate that the manufacturer is Thailand. Natural latex pillow from Thailand has a specific smell and color. The smell is reminiscent of dry milk, but you will notice its sharpness the first time you use it. The color is different. It can be gray or cream. Pay attention to the porosity of the pillow. When making soft items for sleeping, Thai specialists use polymerization technology. You must have a product with pores. This is a positive side, since the pores do not absorb moisture, sweat, it all evaporates quickly. This is not an environment in which microbes and mites can and will live. Latex repels dust, but it must be properly cared for. Manufacturers of useful material provide a ten-year operating guarantee. This period is not enough if you take proper care of the item. Your personal service life can last up to thirty years. This period can be shortened if the bedding accessory is not properly washed, dried, or if the temperature conditions are not taken into account. A latex pillow is “cold-blooded”; it will not warm you in winter, but it is environmentally friendly if it is made from natural material.

How to wash properly

In order for the bedding accessory to please you with its convenience and safety for a long time, it is important to wash it correctly. If you use it carefully, you can simply change your pillowcase regularly. You will not be able to perform these actions constantly, even if used correctly, since after five you will need to wash the latex pillow or mattress. Washing will not take you much time and effort. If there are no visible stains or dirt, dry cleaning can be done. To do this, use plain water and a sponge or cloth. There is no need to rub hard. If the level of contamination is increased, then during washing, take into account the following rules and tips:

  • It is not recommended to wash natural latex in a washing machine. This information must appear on the label or insert. Unless otherwise stated, the product does not contain, in the majority of cases, natural substances.
  • Do not use laundry detergent, liquid soap, bleach or any chemicals. A latex pillow consists of foam that does not require additional detergent and soap components.
  • Water temperature. The water should be at a temperature no more than forty degrees.

The temperature regime is important not only for water, but also for air. No less than minus forty degrees below zero. This will lead to destruction, the filler will become loose and may crumble.

High air temperatures will lead to loss of appearance, original shape and properties, and function of the product.

Advantages

Natural latex has many advantages. This material began to be used at the beginning of the 20th century. Latex does not change the properties of the finished product. With him:

  • ensures uniform firmness and elasticity, helping to find a comfortable position;
  • sleep will be comfortable and healthy;
  • allergies do not appear, so the products are suitable for allergy sufferers and asthmatics;
  • rest will be safe;
  • excellent air exchange is ensured due to the structure with many cells, so there will be no retention of moisture and heat;
  • ensures quiet operation;
  • there will be a long service life - 5-10 years and above;
  • static electricity does not accumulate;
  • a clear form is ensured;
  • no complex care required.

Depending on the type, the surface of the pillow can be different - smooth, embossed. Some models are equipped with longitudinal slots and round holes. Memory foam pillows are equipped with removable pillowcases and covers, which preserve their original appearance for a long time.

Such products are considered dust-resistant, so they do not harbor dust mites, which lead to itchy skin. They are also not damaged by moths. There are orthopedic pillows made of natural latex that provide high-quality and comfortable rest.

Latex pillows are available in a wide range. They come in different shapes and sizes, so there is a suitable option for every buyer. The products provide proper support for the body, normalizing blood circulation to the head and cervical spine.

How to properly dry bedding

A bedding accessory from Thailand, it is important not only to wash it properly, but also to dry it. If you have visible stains, you can use a light soap solution. The pillow needs to be rinsed well. For drying, use the following tips and rules:

  1. It is not recommended to squeeze the pillow too hard; the water should drain naturally.
  2. Dry horizontally. If moisture remains after the water has drained, you can soak it with a towel or cloth. Lay the towel on the floor, place a pillow on top of it, roll it up, without squeezing.
  3. While drying, turn the bedding accessory over and fluff it with your hands to restore its shape.
  4. It is not recommended to iron or use an iron for drying.
  5. Can be dried using a fan with cold air flow.
  6. It is not recommended to dry on a radiator or in direct sunlight. Ultraviolet radiation destroys the structure of latex pillows and mattresses.

To ensure that the product serves you for many years and you do not have problems with washing and caring for your bedding accessory, you can use our tips.

It is important not only to properly wash, but also dry the product, since moisture can not only destroy the original appearance and external shape, but also become a place for germs and bacteria to appear.

Reliability of quality

In addition to the natural or artificial material of the pillow, when purchasing such a product there is a risk of buying a counterfeit containing harmful impurities (for example, phenol). To buy a quality product that will last more than 10 years, you should take note of a few tips:

  • A high-quality product always has a certificate of quality and compliance with hygiene standards, as well as a seller’s warranty (in this case, up to 5 years);
  • the best pillows are produced in countries where rubber trees grow (it’s worth asking about the country of origin);
  • if the pillow forms creases when bent, the latex composition is far from natural;
  • a high-quality latex model instantly restores its original shape with any pressure.

Natural latex – a natural healer

This is not surprising, because natural latex

• safe even for allergy sufferers.

• Bacteria, dust mites, germs and rot do not multiply in it,

• its porous structure promotes air ventilation and evaporation of excess moisture, so the pillow maintains temperature and does not absorb sweat.

Latex pillows have a whole list of useful properties, and everyone who uses them knows this. But I know little about how to care for them so that latex products last not a year or two, but many, many years, and at the same time retain all their healing and aesthetic qualities.

Manufacturing

The production of pillow filling is carried out in 2 ways. Therefore, they differ in density. Using Dunlop technology, it is saturated with air, impregnated in a special centrifuge, filling special molds with spikes with the material (which causes holes to appear) and heating. When polymerization is completed, the raw materials are washed and dried.

In the post-war period, the product is obtained using Talalay technology. It involves pouring latex into special molds, ensuring tightness. Then the air is removed and freezing occurs. Under these conditions, the layers are porous, so the filler acquires a breathable structure.

Pillows made of natural latex - what to protect from and how to save?

Natural latex pillows

do not require special care. The main thing is to change pillowcases, wash them and iron them.

Is it possible to wash natural latex pillows?

Many sellers confidently claim that they can be washed as needed or once every few years, and this can even be done in a washing machine. But! Manufacturers do not recommend doing this.

To clean a latex pillow, you need to wipe it with a slightly damp cloth. Then wipe dry. If, for some reason, a latex product ends up in water, then the spin should be done very carefully, wrapping the pillow in towels and blotting off excess moisture. Then ventilate and dry.

Feather and down

Hand and machine washable. In the first case, the down and feathers are removed from the pillowcase (the pillowcase is washed separately or a new one is sewn) and soaked for several hours in soapy, warm water. This is followed by several rinses (you can use a kitchen colander), removal of moisture in a centrifuge and drying.

There is no need to remove the down and feathers from the pillow to wash it in the washing machine. If the pillow is too large, the filling is removed and “packaged” into several smaller, dense bags, each one securely sewn up. Washing is carried out on a delicate cycle, spinning at low speed.

Reference! For both hand and machine washing, you need to use delicate, specialized detergents for washing down products, for example ZELLER+GMELIN DEHATEX.

This is not a complete list of recommendations for washing down pillows. Read more details in the article How to wash a down pillow at home.

Frost, sun and latex

You cannot dry latex pillows in the sun, as its structure is destroyed under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, and it becomes hard and brittle.

High temperatures are also not acceptable for latex. The proximity of radiators, a lit cigarette or a cup of freshly brewed coffee can permanently damage the latex base. The same applies to a hot iron, which some housewives, in a hurry to get to work, decide to iron things on the bed without bothering to lay out the ironing board.

Some drivers use latex seat cushions. So, it is necessary to remember that in winter, at -40°, latex begins to deteriorate. But, even if the temperature does not reach this level, before using the pillow, it must be warmed up.

Also, do not store pillows, mattresses or blankets in their original packaging for a long time. When folded or deformed, latex products gradually deteriorate. You can start using them immediately after purchase. You didn’t buy them just to have them in the package, did you?

Producing countries of natural latex

The first distinguishing feature of natural latex foam is the country of origin. The foaming process of latex is possible only in the first 12 hours after its collection, which is why products made from 100% natural latex are produced only near the place where the milky juice is collected.

Therefore, the country of manufacture of completely natural products from this material may be one of the countries that are members of the Association of Natural Rubber Producers (ANRPC), created back in 1970. Currently, only 11 countries are members of this association: Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, India, China, Cambodia, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. Membership in the association obliges manufacturers in this country to comply with high quality and environmental standards in accordance with the changing needs of the market, giving in return sustainable development, stability of the sales market and prices.

So, if you buy a quality pillow made in Italy or Russia that says 100% latex, the filling will still come from one of those countries.

For example, in our online store you can buy natural latex pillows:

  • Arpico from Sri Lanka;
  • Lien'a from Vietnam.

Is it possible to wash an orthopedic pillow? - let's figure it out.

Applicable to all orthopedic pillows, we highlight general care recommendations:

  1. Do not use chemical cleaning methods for the base.
  2. Do not expose to direct sunlight or heating devices.
  3. Do not place piercing, cutting or pressing objects on the product.
  4. Do not cover with a blanket or blanket after sleep, as the ventilation properties of the pillow are impaired.
  5. Turn daily to maintain shape.
  6. Handle it with care - do not throw it, do not fall on it while accelerating.
  7. Read the attached instructions carefully.
  8. Wash removable pillowcases and covers in warm water (temperature up to 40 degrees), with mild detergents, wring without twisting, dry away from heating devices and radiators.
  9. Before washing, you must turn the pillowcase inside out to avoid snags on the surface of the material.

The type of washing or cleaning of an orthopedic pillow depends on the filler, that is, what is the basis of the product. Each filler requires a special approach. We recommend that you carefully study the symbols shown on the product tag or in the instructions.

Orthopedic pillows should not be shaken or fluffed vigorously, because with such actions you damage the structure of the filler and the pillow loses its shape. To prevent contamination of the product itself, it is better to use pillowcases that are easy to wash. If you do not use an orthopedic pillow for some time (for example: for legs, on a seat, for traveling, etc.), then it is better to store it in a fabric case. Do not use plastic bags for storage.

Having talked about the main general recommendations, we will dwell in more detail on the features of caring for certain types of orthopedic pillows and filling. So! Pillow care:

With memory effect

  • If the base of the pillow is a material with a memory effect (polyurethane foam, viscoelastic foam, memory foam inserts), then it cannot be washed. Washing (it doesn’t matter) by hand or machine destroys the fragile partitions in the foam material, which deprives the pillow of its unique properties.
  • Dry clean recommended.
  • It is allowed to wipe the surface with a cloth or napkin moistened with water or soapy water. Protect from exposure to high humidity.
  • Since the pillow has a porous structure, it is well ventilated and does not accumulate dust. It is enough to ventilate once every three months in the fresh air.
  • The pillow retains freshness and cleanliness for a long time.
  • The removable cover and pillowcases can be washed (delicate machine washable at temperature no higher than 40, without the use of bleaches and organic solvents).

Inflatable travel pillows

  • Dry cleaning prohibited.
  • Wash in warm water at 30 degrees (hand wash).
  • Do not bleach, do not iron.
  • Dry naturally.

Products made of foam rubber (for example: foot pillows)

  • Hand wash only in warm water (t 40) with mild, gentle detergents.
  • Do not bleach, do not iron.
  • Dry flat, in a well-ventilated area, away from heating devices.
  • Dry cleaning is prohibited.

With spring block

  • Washing is prohibited!
  • Dry cleaning only is allowed.

With polystyrene foam balls

  • Protect from exposure to high humidity.
  • The pillow cannot be washed.
  • Dry cleaning recommended.
  • Avoid letting it sit, ventilate periodically.

How to wash a latex pillow?

1. Based on natural latex. (the product indicates “100% Latex” and the full name of the manufacturer is written down).

  • Natural latex practically does not absorb moisture, but it is not recommended to wash products with it.
  • You can wipe the contaminated surface with a damp but thoroughly wrung-out cloth or sponge. If the pillow is heavily soiled and you cannot do without washing, you can wash it by hand with liquid detergents in warm water. Do not use washing powder.
  • You can’t wring it out; it’s better to blot the pillow between two towels and dry it naturally.
  • Do not expose to direct sunlight. Ultraviolet radiation destroys the latex structure, causing brown sticky spots to appear on the surface. The pillow becomes hard.
  • Preference is given to dry cleaning in a professional setting.
  • Basic care consists of weekly ventilation (taking into account that natural latex cannot withstand temperatures below - 40 C).
  • Change pillowcases and covers when dirty.

2. Based on mixed or synthetic latex.

  • A pillow with mixed filling absorbs moisture like a sponge. It is not recommended to wash or wring.
  • It is allowed to wipe with a cloth and mild detergents (preferably in the form of liquid soap or gel).
  • Rinse with cold water only. Light push-up with palms on a plane.
  • Dry in a ventilated area for at least 12 hours. Do not dry in the sun or near heating devices, including radiators.
  • Dry cleaning is recommended when soiled (but not more than once every six months).

Can latex products be machine washed?

In fact, there is no clear answer to such a simple question. Pillow manufacturers unanimously claim that this cannot be done, but many sellers are confident that it is possible, observing low temperature conditions and drying rules. But if you do not want to risk your pillow, then it is better to clean it manually or take it to the dry cleaner.

In order not to spoil the product, you should first of all make sure that it is actually made of latex material. There are several rules that will help you recognize a fake.

Only pillows made of 100% latex can be machine washed. Otherwise it will already be a synthetic thing. It is very easy to verify this.

You just have to find a label on the pillow that will indicate its original composition.

Latex products have a porous coating. In addition, the new item may have the smell of baby formula or powdered milk, which will gradually disappear. If the pillow you bought is white and has a glossy surface, then it is most likely an ordinary fake. Real latex products are not able to absorb moisture, while any other pillows easily absorb water.

Whether this pillow should be machine washed is up to you to decide. But if there is even the slightest doubt, then it is better to trust washing by hand.

How to understand what latex content is in a mattress

The range of artificial materials increases every year. Of course, not all of them are bad, but they are often much inferior in terms of characteristics to natural latex. The demand for latex products contributes to the production of artificial analogues (with only a certain percentage of natural latex in the foam composition). The price of mixed blocks is lower, but they are also inferior in quality to natural ones (less resilient, less elastic and less durable).

Reference! If only natural latex is used in the mattress, this is the pride of the manufacturer! He will never hide it and the descriptive characteristics will say “100% latex”. If it is written differently - “natural latex” or “latex”, then we are not talking about a 100% product, but about a latex-mix product with only a certain percentage of a natural product in the composition of polyurethane foam. Manufacturers call some brands of high-quality polyurethane foam (foam rubber) artificial latex.

Alas, even in Thailand, the unenlightened consumer is not immune from counterfeits. Such situations are quite common, especially when it comes to goods purchased at small retail outlets. In order not to bring home a synthetic latex mattress from Thailand and thereby not spoil the impression of the wonderful natural product from Hevea (and your mood), you need to be able to distinguish natural latex.

Washing latex pillows by hand

Machine washing of such products, as it turned out, is not recommended, so the question arises: how to wash a latex item by hand? There are several rules that must be followed:

  1. The pillow should be washed in a basin with warm water, the temperature of which should not exceed 40 degrees.
  2. It is not recommended to use powder when washing latex; it is too difficult to rinse out. It is better to opt for liquid soap or liquid cleaner.
  3. To clean the surface of the pillow, use a soft-bristled brush or sponge.
  4. After washing, you must leave the pillow in a horizontal position so that all the water drains from it.
