  • – fabric dyes;
  • – ammonia;
  • - salt;
  • – bleach:
  • – gauze;
  • - Bowl;
  • – wood tongs or stick;
  • – large capacity.

Determine what fabric the pants are made of. Some materials are difficult to color. For example, nylon, lavsan, nitron and some other artificial fabrics do not dye well. It’s great if you still have the label with the ingredients written on it. Often, garments are made from mixed fabrics, and it is important to know which fibers are more numerous, natural or artificial.

Weigh your pants. This is important in order to find the amount of dye - the proportion in relation to the weight of the laundry is usually indicated on the labels. You need to weigh dry pants. In the latter case, the mass can be found approximately.

If there is a need to paint new pants, the product must be washed beforehand to get rid of antistatic agents or other impregnations. It is also useful to soak the trousers in a solution of ammonia and then rinse. For the solution you need 50 g of 25% ammonia per 10 liters of water.

Choose the right color. It’s best, of course, to turn light-colored pants into black, but it’s also possible to do the opposite. True, in order to get a lighter tone than it was at first, the product needs to be bleached. This can be done with any kind of bleach; fortunately, the choice of them in hardware stores is quite large.

The method of working with dyes is usually indicated on the packaging. The following is more widespread. Pour the required amount of dye into a bowl. Add warm water to the powder evenly and stir. You should get a homogeneous paste. Add still warm water to the bowl (0.5 liters per package of powder) and mix well again. Strain the dye through 2 layers of gauze and pour into a container designed for dyeing trousers.

Add warm water to the container. Its volume should be approximately 10 times the volume of the tissue. Dip your pants into the solution so that they are completely submerged in water. Make sure that when boiling, pieces of fabric do not rise above the surface. In this case, you will really need wood tongs or even just a long stick that can be used to press down your pants. Boil the pants over low heat for about 20 minutes. The temperature of the water you add to the container should be approximately 45°C.

Take out your pants. Prepare a solution of table salt - 2 tbsp. for 2 liters of water. Pour the solution into the container in which the coloring is made. Place your pants in there again and simmer over low heat for another 10 minutes. Then remove the container from the heat and let the pants sit in the solution for about another half hour. After which all you have to do is rinse them properly.

Over time, any thing loses its color, this especially often happens with black products, the color of which, with constant exposure to sunlight and detergents, becomes pale gray and dull. And your image in such a thing is no longer so presentable and beautiful. Of course, when faced with such a situation, you can buy new pants, but this is a complete waste of money, and it is not always possible to immediately find a suitable model.

Types of dyes

Industrial production means:

  • powder compositions: paint is available in dry form, in powder form;
  • Ready-to-use liquid products are specially developed pigments intended for dyeing fabrics.

Use available tools:

  • refilling printer cartridges (black);
  • natural coffe;
  • tobacco ash.

These options are not recommended for improving the color of expensive items, since there is a high probability that the trousers will be irreparably damaged. There is no guarantee of a good result in this case.

How to choose paint

Recommendations:

  1. Composition: Before purchasing, you need to pay attention to whether the components of the product are listed on the label.
    In the production of counterfeit paints and compositions that are produced in artisanal conditions, important information is often missing, including the types of main components. In addition, the composition allows you to determine how high-quality and effective the chosen product is. Thus, it is recommended to purchase a helmet that does not contain lavsan and niton. These components can ruin the item because they contribute to its uneven coloring.
  2. Material type. The label indicates for which fabrics the composition is intended. If the wrong product is used, the material may be colored unevenly or may result in a color that is not what was expected, such as a lighter color. There is another danger: the material will be colored, but after the first wash it will begin to fade a lot.
  3. Type of paint. The compositions differ in structure, which determines their properties. The choice is made taking into account the method of application of the pigment. This is due to the fact that each type of paint is designed to paint products under given conditions. When the requirements for the procedure are not met, the quality of the painting deteriorates.
  4. Application of universal compositions. In the absence of information about the type of material, it is permissible to use a product that is suitable for dyeing cotton, linen, wool, silk, and viscose fabrics. In this case, the color can be preserved for a shorter period than in the case when a highly specialized composition is selected.
  5. Best before date. It is not recommended to use products that have lost their properties.

How to choose the right dye for black trousers?

In order to paint black trousers well at home, you need to purchase high-quality paint. It can be bought both in an online store and in any other where this product is sold. The paint packaging should contain detailed instructions for its use.

In addition, it must be indicated for which material the product is suitable. It should be noted that if the fabric of black trousers contains nitron or lavsan, then there is a high probability that the paint will not saturate or dye the trousers, but will only ruin them.

If you don’t know what material your trousers are made of, then it’s better to take a universal paint that can be used to paint cotton, linen, viscose, wool and silk fabrics. Before purchasing, you need to decide how you will dye your black trousers, since there are special powder dyes for use in washing machines or for hand-dying.

General recommendations

Dyeing things is not an easy procedure that requires accuracy and skill. And given that dyes and solutions can be dangerous for both fabric and skin, compliance with safety rules is simply necessary:

  1. Work with paint only with thick rubber gloves. They reliably protect the skin of your hands.
  2. Carefully study the composition of the dye and the instructions for its use.
  3. Find the label on the product and see what icons and legends are shown on it. This will make it easier for you to navigate acceptable and undesirable actions in relation to fabric.
  4. Determine what material you are dealing with. This will allow you to independently adjust the amount of dye. Natural fabrics can be dyed faster and with better quality than fabrics mixed with synthetic threads.
  5. When diluting the solution, consider the original color of the clothing. If the pants are white or beige, then as a result of the procedure they will not turn black. You can only count on a dark gray shade. But if the trousers or jeans are initially gray or brown, then in this case the chances of getting a rich black color are much greater.

Before painting

There are a few things to consider before painting things:

  • Analyze all the pros and cons of the procedure . This is a risky business, and the result may not live up to expectations.
  • Consider the composition of the fabric . It is easy to change the color of natural fabrics. But if synthetic threads are present, the color may turn out to be paler.

The density and composition of the material affect the final result

  • Consider the original color of the clothing . If white is dyed black, the result will be gray or dark gray. But not black! It is better to choose tones that are close in combination.
  • Be sure to carry out the work wearing gloves.

Rubber gloves will protect the skin of your hands

  • Follow the recommendations indicated on the dye . The instructions will explain the necessary proportions and procedure.

Preparation

Before changing or updating the color, a denim item must be prepared:

  • Wash. Check for grease stains. When washing, do not use rinse aids, they can complicate the painting process.
  • Cut off all labels . In most cases, labels on jeans also become stained and therefore deteriorate. After the process they can be re-sewn.

Cut the label

  • If necessary, bleach . If your jeans are not blue, you will have to use bleach.
  • We are preparing a place to work . We clear the surface, cover it with newspapers so that the dyes do not get on objects nearby.

Proper preparation is 75% success!

Whitening

To improve the dyeing result, it is better to bleach a denim product. For this:

  • We dilute water and bleach in a 1:1 ratio . It is best to use a deep container, such as a bucket or basin. If the jeans are light, then a weaker solution is made.

Whiteness is an excellent bleach

  • Place the denim product in a container and leave for 1-2 hours . Every 20 minutes it is necessary to change the position of the thing, that is, stir.
  • After bleaching, you need to rinse your clothes again.

The jeans should not be pure white, they will most likely have a yellowish tint. Don't worry, the black pigment will cover everything!

Suitable materials

You can paint any wardrobe item yourself using special paints.

There is a wide variety of colors available on the modern market. With such a spectrum, everyone can choose the shade they need.

Fans of experiments identify several methods suitable for painting a product.

  • The most popular is dyeing in a washing machine. However, paint may remain on the drum walls. This will lead to damage to other wardrobe items.
  • Instead of a washing machine, you can use the manual method. For this purpose, enamel dishes are suitable, which are placed on low heat. The main thing when painting is to follow the manufacturer's recommendations.

Useful tips

For those people who don't often dye items from their wardrobe, the helpful tips and tricks listed below can come in handy.

  • If you have to paint a product for the first time, it is better to practice on an old unnecessary thing that you don’t mind throwing away if it fails.
  • To accurately determine the required amount of dye, the textiles must be weighed.
  • If the item to be repainted is intended to be remade, then it should be torn into pieces in advance.
  • Uneven coloring of synthetic fabric can be corrected by immersing the product in a hot soapy solution.
  • Items dyed black should be washed separately from other clothes. The fact is that they can fade and ruin all the other things in the drum.

  2. Place the trousers in a bowl of dye and leave for 30 minutes. You can adjust the exposure time of the paint on the fabric yourself depending on the color you want to get as a result.
  3. After the required time has passed, transfer the product to a container of water and leave for 3-5 minutes.
  4. At this time, pour the coloring solution into an enamel pan or bucket and place it on the fire.
  5. Next, put your pants back into the paint, wait until it boils, stirring and turning over occasionally.
  6. Boil the product in the paint for no longer than 40 minutes.
  7. Then take out the jeans and place them in cool water with a little salt and vinegar (1-2 tbsp each). This will help set the color.

  2. Pour 2-3 packages of the finished dye into a glass container and fill them with hot water. Mix thoroughly using a metal spoon.
  3. Add 1 cup of salt to the solution and stir again until it is completely dissolved.
  4. Fill a basin with warm water and pour a mixture of dye and salt into it. Stir.
  5. Add 1 glass of vinegar and 2-3 tbsp to the resulting solution. washing powder or liquid detergent. Beat until foam forms and pour into the machine.
  6. Place clean, damp pants in the washing machine and set for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Despite the fact that the automatic washing mode involves rinsing, nevertheless, at the end of the program, you must additionally rinse the clothes manually.

There are several ways to dye your trousers at home. Choose the one that suits you best and give old things a new life.

How to prepare jeans for dyeing

Before dyeing an item, it is necessary to bleach it so that the substance dyes the fibers more densely.

  1. Step one - wash your jeans

To ensure that there are no components left on the pants that you intend to repaint that could interfere with the chemical reaction, you need to wash them thoroughly. Place the pants in the washing machine and wash them in a normal cycle according to the instructions on the label.

You shouldn't dry your jeans. They must be kept damp before bleaching or painting. If your jeans are gray or blue, then you do not need to bleach them; you can simply wash them and skip all the further steps in the instructions before dyeing.

wash jeans

  1. Step two - heat the water

To bleach jeans in rich shades - red or orange, you need to create a solid base so that the black dye adheres more densely. Fill a large stainless steel pan with enough water to hold the item. Place the pan over moderate heat and bring the liquid to a boil.

Do not immerse jeans in water until it has warmed up. The water should heat until small bubbles appear, but not boil. Make sure in advance that water will not come out of the dish when you immerse your pants in it.

Do not use aluminum pans or non-stick cookware for painting. You can use an enamel container - for example, a basin.

Step two - heat the water

  1. Step three - mix bleach in water

Jeans can be bleached with ordinary bleach, but it is better to use a special composition for bleaching the material before painting - it works as gently as possible. As soon as the water begins to boil, pour the bleaching component into it according to the instructions on the pack, and stir until completely dissolved.

Wear rubber gloves when handling chemicals to protect your hands from harsh chemicals. You can buy bleaching agents in the same places where clothing dyes are sold. If possible, it is better to use chemicals of the same brand for maximum effect.

When working with chemicals, be sure to open the windows in the room - air should circulate.

Step three - mix bleach in water

  1. Step Four – Dip the Jeans in Water

Once the bleaching liquid or powder has dissolved, add the pants to the pan and stir with a metal spatula, stirring constantly. Reduce the heat and keep the item on the stove for about half an hour or until the color visually “disappears.”

Monitor the condition of the water so that the mixture does not boil. If you notice that the water will soon begin to boil, remove the pan from the gas for a while.

Don't expect your jeans to turn completely white - they will take on the black color perfectly, even if they remain grayish or faded yellow.

Step Four – Dip the Jeans in Water

  1. Step Five: Pour the solution out of the pan

When you achieve the result, turn on the burner. Read the bleaching agent label to determine if it can be poured down the drain or if some other method of disposal is required.

Give the jeans five minutes for the solution to cool slightly, and then pour it down the toilet so that only the item itself remains in the container.

Step Five: Pour the solution out of the pan

  1. Step six - rinse your pants and wring them out

Wear gloves. Remove the jeans from the pan and rinse them twice - in very hot water and in lukewarm water - and then wring them out. Do not use cool pressure as this will leave streaks on the fabric from the folds of your clothing.

Step six - rinse your pants and wring them out

  1. Step seven - wash your jeans again

After two rinses, put the pants in the washing machine and wash them again with powder as usual. This will remove traces of chemicals and prepare the item for painting.

Do not dry your jeans after washing. They must be damp to paint.
