How to properly wash tulle in an automatic washing machine: tips and tricks

If there are curtains or curtains made of thin transparent material hanging on every window at home, the amount of work required to care for them increases. In this case, it is advisable to use the machine wash method. To get the desired result, you need to know in advance how to wash tulle in an automatic washing machine.

Features of washing tulle depending on the material

Improper care can cause deterioration of the shape and changes in the structure of the curtains.

It is necessary to select machine settings according to the type of fabric:

  1. Synthetics. The material does not tolerate exposure to temperatures exceeding 40 degrees. Spinning is prohibited. Soaking is a prerequisite. Moreover, chlorine-containing products are prohibited in most cases. Only some types of synthetics tolerate the effects of such substances relatively well.
  2. Cotton. Set the temperature to +60°C. The standard cycle is suitable (not for delicate washing). If possible, soak items made from this material. You can select a program with this function. After washing, it is permissible to iron curtains.
  3. Viscose. This material is demanding to care for and loses its shape under the influence of negative factors (mechanical loads, influence of a heating source). Even if you manage to bleach the product, it will be impossible to use it in the future. Recommendations: the water should be warm (+30°C), use a cover before placing the product in the drum. The same requirements apply to silk curtains.
  4. Capron. To make a yellowed curtain snow-white, set the temperature to +30°C. Chlorine-containing products are not used. The product cannot be twisted either. It is necessary to rinse the curtains thoroughly, since the detergent that remains between the fibers of washed curtains contributes to their yellowing. This drawback is leveled out in cases where the curtain is characterized by champagne color - the material is initially not completely white, changes are not visible on it after washing.
  5. The mesh retains its properties when washed in water +35°C.
  6. Silk. The recommended mode is not higher than +40°C, spinning is prohibited.
  7. Veil. It can be made from synthetic or natural fibers, and the machine is configured with this in mind. The most suitable conditions: +30…+35°С, spin at a minimum number of revolutions.
  8. Kiseya. It is recommended to wash at a temperature of +30°C, you must use a special cover.

Fabric Features

Detergent and temperature conditions are selected depending on the type of fabric. The mode in which to wash curtains depends on the characteristics of the material. Additionally, not all fabrics are machine washable.

Silk, chiffon, lurex, organza are best washed by hand and soaked for a few minutes. These fabrics are lightweight and do not cause problems when washing. In some cases, just dip the fabric in soapy water and rinse, and the curtains will be as good as new.

Thicker fabrics can be machine washed on a gentle cycle.

The nuances of washing in an automatic washing machine

In most cases, the main parameter is set to no more than +40°C, with the exception of cotton products. In this case, the water can be hot (up to +60°C); polyester is washed according to the same rules.

To bleach a synthetic curtain, you can use available products (based on blue, brilliant green, ammonia, salt). This recommendation applies to polyester and nylon curtains. Home remedies are used to soak the curtain before washing it in the machine. Chemicals are used to lighten other fabrics.

Organza curtains are the only option that is not recommended to be bleached by machine. For other types of fabrics based on synthetic fibers, a more gentle mode (no spin) is chosen; sometimes it is allowed to turn on the machine at minimum speed for drying (up to 400 rpm). A protective cover is a mandatory measure to protect the product from mechanical damage. This method is used for washing delicate fabrics.

How to wash tulle: practical tips

To make light curtains pleasing to the eye and last a long time, you should follow simple rules on how to wash tulle:

  • wash curtains at least once every three months;
  • Shake the fabric before soaking to remove dust;
  • bleaches containing chlorine should not be used;
  • do not twist the fabric;
  • Do not iron wet white tulle as this will cause yellow stains.

Tulle is easy to wash if you follow the recommendations. Wash one item per cycle and do not overload the machine. For particularly delicate fabrics, special covers should be used.

How to properly set up an automatic machine

It is necessary to set the operating parameters of the household appliance. Models of different brands have a different set of programs. The choice should be made by studying the characteristics of your washing machine (manufacturer's instructions).

But in most cases, preference is given to the following options: “delicate”, “for wool”, “handmade”, “for silk”. In each of these cases, the most gentle conditions for bleaching products are provided. Different temperatures are provided, but it is always within +30...+40°C.

How to wash tulle in a machine with hooks

When it is not possible to remove such fastening elements, the likelihood of damage to the material is reduced by using a special cover - a bag, inside which the curtain is placed. It closes securely.

Perforation is provided, with small holes allowing water to pass through. But they are not large enough, the fastening elements will not pass through them. Otherwise, the recommendations for lightening curtains with hooks are the same as in other cases.

Is it possible to wash tulle with hooks?

This is usually the first question that arises after deciding to wash both curtains and curtains. Because in the memory of every housewife there are vivid memories of how much effort is required to secure curtains and curtains to the curtain.

You will be surprised by the answer, but practice has confirmed that you can wash it this way. Hooks usually have latches that make them relatively safe to have in the wash.

Of course, you can simply load everything you need into the car, select the desired mode, and go! However, it is better, especially in the case of washing with hooks, to use laundry bags or a regular pillowcase. This way you will further protect both the machine and the product.

How to achieve results

To improve the appearance of the product, change the shade to a lighter one, you must follow the instructions:

  1. The tulle needs to be shaken out of dust.
  2. When choosing a washing method, take into account the properties of the curtain material. Based on this information, it is determined whether the product needs to be pre-soaked (by hand or in a machine). This measure will allow you to quickly get rid of grayness. Apply a solution with salt.
  3. A cover for the curtain is prepared (when necessary, depending on the type of fabric).
  4. If you plan to soak the tulle in the machine, you need to pour bleach into a special compartment. At the same time, pour the powder into another compartment. Set the basic parameters of the machine, after which you can turn it on.
  5. Rinse is included in the washing program. If necessary, start another cycle after finishing the machine. This is done when a large amount of detergent has been used.
  6. Spinning is not performed; for cotton fabrics, the speed is set to no more than 400 rpm. (if the characteristics of the washing machine allow).

The clean and white curtain should be returned to its place - on the window. It may be damp at this stage, which is an advantage as you won't have to iron it. The product will expand under its own weight.

Tips, subtleties and nuances

  • Before we start washing the muslin, we fix the tulle threads with an elastic band along the entire length of the curtain. Approximately 20 cm away and

    Be sure to pack the curtain in a bag. But you can simply weave muslin into a braid.

  • To whiten gray and even yellow curtains, soak them in a steep salt solution for about half an hour. Be sure to rinse the tulle after this.
  • It is correct to wash curtains 2 times a year. Then they won’t threaten to turn yellow or accumulate so much dust that they become a threat to our health.
  • Want to get the best soaking effect? Then add 1 tsp. soda to 1 water, and instead of powder we use shampoo.
  • You can soak in several stages. First fill with warm water. When the water has cooled, drain it and fill it with water and soapy water. After an hour, change this water to new one.
  • Nylon is machine washable on a gentle cycle.
  • Organza is exclusively in a bag at a temperature of 30-35 degrees.
  • Kisey is washed in hand wash mode.
  • Tulle made from natural fabrics can be starched after washing. This will give the product a more attractive appearance.
  • But synthetics can be rinsed at the end in a vinegar solution (1 glass per 10 liters of water). This will add shine to the curtains.

If you treat tulle with care, it can last a very long time while remaining attractive.

What detergents can be used to bleach tulle?

If you plan to wash the curtains, prepare a detergent that whitens gray and yellow stains.

You need to choose from a wide range, so consider:

  • compound;
  • properties, level of effectiveness;
  • the degree of negative impact on the material.

The results of comparing different types of products can be seen in the table.

NameProperties
"Bos"An oxygen-containing product that does not have a negative effect on the material, effectively removes yellowness and gray tints from fabric
"Eared Nanny"Oxygen-containing product, does not require boiling. Contains active components that remove contaminants from the material structure
"Sarma Active"Optical brightener
"Vanish Oxy"Removes stains, removes yellowness. This is an oxygen-containing product and can be used on delicate fabrics.
Dr. Beckmann (for curtains and drapes) Removes any dirt, including yellowness. Valid at +20°C and above

Is it possible to starch tulle in an automatic machine?

You can improve the appearance of curtains using this product. Starch covers the fabric with an invisible film, which allows you to give the product its shape, and at the same time prevents the penetration of dust into the structure of the material.

Another property noted is whitening. The desired result is obtained provided that the mixture is prepared correctly. After using starch, the product can last longer without the risk of contamination or deformation.

Prepare the solution:

  • take 250 g of product, 1 liter of water;
  • the liquid needs to be heated, then starch is poured into it, this should be done gradually, stirring the lumps;
  • Cooking time is 5 minutes, then the container is removed from the stove.

A thick product is obtained; for washing in a washing machine, it is diluted with water. There is no need to wring out the curtains after the equipment has finished working. They are hung on a cornice, which allows you to quickly straighten such products.

What products are best to use for washing tulle?

You can wash tulle in a washing machine using various detergents, both special and general purpose. This:

  • special detergents for washing tulle and other curtains , which can be purchased at household chemical stores. They are very effective, cope well with stains, whiten fabrics and lightly starch. However, they are not very common and therefore are not always on sale, and their cost is very high. It makes sense to purchase such products if we are talking about expensive and thin curtains that require special care.
  • shampoos for washing delicate fabrics . They are gentle on fabric, designed to be washed at low temperatures and are easy to rinse.
  • detergents for washing children's clothes . They are especially effective when washing white tulle curtains and have a good bleaching effect.
  • regular washing powders can also be used to wash tulle, especially when it comes to nylon mesh or inexpensive organza. Powders should be selected in accordance with the color of the fabric, using products for colored fabrics for dyed curtains; Be especially careful with the dosage of the powder to avoid increased foaming and do not forget about additional rinsing.

How to wash without wrinkles

There are 2 ways to do this:

  • program selection (use “for delicate fabrics”);
  • using a cover (neatly folded curtains are folded inside, and there is no guarantee that the product will not be deformed, but there will be much less kinks in the fabric than when washing in the usual way).

An auxiliary measure is refusal to spin. Tulle dries quickly, which is due to the properties and structure of the material. If you wring it out when washing, you will have to iron the material, which is not always possible. It is better to dry curtains in an open space. You can also do this at home, but water from the product will drip onto the floor.

Getting ready to wash

Is it possible to wash tulle made from natural and synthetic fabrics in an automatic machine? Can. Just first prepare the curtains:

  1. Carefully remove them from the window. Care is needed not only to avoid tearing the thin fabric, but also to avoid inhaling microparticles of dust that settled on the curtains while it was hanging.
  2. We take out the hooks. If the eyelets are in, they can be taken out (note that the edges of the hole may become frayed during washing), but this is not important. Can also be washed with eyelets. They are covered with a stainless alloy.
  3. Let's shake off the dust. It's best to do this outdoors.

If you are allergic or have problems with the respiratory tract, then you can shake off the dust in a “lazy” way. Hang the curtains briefly on the balcony or outside so that the wind blows away the microparticles

  1. Soak. The water temperature should be within 40 degrees.

Ask a Question

If you need to “revive” the colors or return the snow-white look, we won’t just soak the curtains in water. Let's add powder there. Not three, just dilute the detergent in water and soak the tulle. Leave for 2-5 hours (depending on the contamination and aggressiveness of the powder). Whiteness can also be used if the curtain material is artificial. But add white only 15 minutes before washing. We take just a tablespoon of vanish, dilute it in water and pour it into a container with soaked curtains.

  1. Let's straighten it out. Let's do this above the bathtub so that the water flows there. Since all the folds of the tulle will be clearly visible after washing, straighten and fold the fabric evenly. Of course, it will still wrinkle, but the folds will be less noticeable.

Thanks to these procedures we will get the best result. All that remains is to choose a detergent and on what mode to wash the tulle in the machine.
