Proper care of the thermos. How to open a thermos that is tightly twisted Tea with ginger in a thermos

Causes

The reason that a thermos (thermal mug) has a tightly screwed lid is a decrease in pressure inside it. Due to this difference, it becomes very difficult to open it. To solve the problem, you need to press the valve in the lid to equalize the pressure and calmly open it.

At the moment when hot liquid is poured into the thermos, the metal thread expands and fits tightly to the base, creating a vacuum. As a result, the lid fits tightly to the thermos, and it becomes very difficult to open it.

If you value it as a memory, you can try drilling a small diameter hole in the lid. Theoretically, it should help. The cover can, of course, be replaced, although the design varies

Recently I was studying. Not a mug, really, but stainless steel. Eliminated sliding by sticking tape, using 2 levers. Archimedes. He hit the carving with brute physical force.

That's it!

You need to somehow raise the pressure (temperature) in the mug - cook in boiling water longer (for an hour) (in a pressure cooker, for example)))

Or

into the microwave oven and turn it on for small intervals (protecting the magnetron), so that the iron warms up and warms up the boiling water again)))

there is another interesting trick with a microwave: microwave + stew = hand grenade)

Another option is to place it in an atmosphere with reduced pressure, such as: lift it on an airplane, put it in a vacuum bell, or just in a bag, and pump out the air from it as much as possible (vacuum pump, compressor from a refrigerator, pump from vacuum containers for storing food, etc.).

Causes of problems

Now let’s try to understand in more detail the reasons for the problems described above.

If a stainless steel thermos stops holding heat, this usually happens after using the device for some time. The causes of poor thermal insulation can be:

  • damage to the plug;
  • poor quality or deformed silver plating;
  • there is no vacuum layer between the walls of the body and the cylinder.

If we talk about the first problem, it often happens that the plug was already defective from the very beginning. But it could also happen that the owner of the thermos screwed it too tightly, and after a while the connection simply cracked, and therefore the device stopped holding heat. It’s easy to check – just tilt a closed metal thermos. If there is such a defect, hot water will leak out.

If the thermos has a glass flask, then inside it there is a damaged or poor-quality silver coating. Usually we are talking about a manufacturing defect.

The problem may also be the lack of vacuum between the body and the walls of the cylinder. Almost any thermos that exists today, even any Chinese one, has a double bottom. A copper tube passes through it inside, the end of which is flattened. It is through this tube that the manufacturer pumps out air using a special vacuum pump.

Careful use

In order for your thermos to serve you for many years, you should treat it with care. Even if you have a stainless steel thermos, this does not mean that it cannot be broken. If there is a strong impact or a fall onto a hard surface from a great height, a dent may form on a stainless steel thermos. As a result, the seal of the thermos may be broken and the temperature will remain much worse.

A thermos with a glass flask, unlike a thermos with a metal flask, is more fragile, but if the flask breaks, it can be repaired. For glass flasks, there are spare flasks in stock, and they can be easily replaced with new ones if necessary. For thermoses made of stainless steel, replacing the flask with a new one is impossible.

Even children know that a thermos is a device for maintaining the desired temperature for a long time. But only a high-quality product can boast such properties. To acquire an excellent invention that is designed to make our lives easier, we need to know how to select it and handle it in the future.

By the way, speaking of inventions, the prototype of the modern accessory was the brainchild of the Englishman James Dewar Dewar. From a glass container, he built something similar to a bottle with double walls, between which he pumped out the air, applied a silver layer to the surface and got an excellent object for storing rarefied gases. And only after many years his student started producing thermoses for household use.

Today we can purchase thermoses for a variety of purposes, which are united by one mission - to keep the contents warm or cold. Thermos for tea is the most popular category of goods in this segment and this is what we will talk about.

How to brew tea in a thermos?

For people who cannot imagine their day without a mug of hot tea, brewing this drink in a thermos is a great way to never part with it anywhere. For those who have never done this, it may seem that this method is quite complicated, but this is a misconception.

Brewing tea in a thermos is as easy as shelling pears: scald the container with boiling water, add the tea leaves (it can be anything, depending on your preferences) and fill it with hot water. You can even take it. After infusing for about an hour, the drink is ready to drink. Sugar can be used both granulated and lump. Enjoy your tea!

What affects heat saving?

Everyone buys a thermos to take hot coffee or tea with them. The main thing is that your favorite drink stays warm for as long as possible. As a rule, such products maintain temperature for 6 hours on average. But there are models that retain heat for up to 12 hours, provided that the thermos is not opened regularly. The length of time a thermos retains heat is influenced by several criteria.

  • One of the factors is the volume of the product itself . For example, if you pour boiling water into a smaller container, you should not expect long-term heat retention. The larger the volume, the longer the heat will remain.
  • This depends on the degree of filling of the container. If a thermos, for example, with a volume of 1 liter, is filled only halfway, then the hot drink will cool down faster than in a thermos that is filled to the full.
  • As a rule, large thermos jugs or classic thermos flasks, which are convenient to take with you on hikes and to work, retain heat longer than a thermal mug. Therefore, it still depends on the type of product and what you are purchasing it for.

Important! Heat retention is affected by the material from which the thermos is made, its quality and some other criteria.

Ways to solve the problem

Depending on whether you have problems opening a thermos with a button or with a regular stopper, you can also solve them in different ways. There are several working methods.

  1. Cooling. The thermos can be placed under the running tap so that the moisture flows over the problem area. Cold water will cause the plug to shrink, losing its previous volume. Then you can try again. The cork will give in easily if done correctly.
  2. Physical impact. You can try wrapping your hand in a towel or napkin to increase the grip of your palm on the plug. After this, it will be enough to operate with one hand, moving the lid gradually, but with pronounced force.
  3. Using sharp objects. If we are talking about natural cork made from a special type of wood, you can simply pry it with a knife from one of the edges to break the tightness. As soon as air gets inside the vessel, you can easily remove the stuck element. In the case of a threaded rubber stopper, this method also works. You just need to act very carefully so as not to damage the elastic part, otherwise the vessel may depressurize during subsequent use.

A thermos with a button-valve for dispensing liquids without completely unscrewing it allows you to quickly and easily solve the problem of ridding the neck of a stuck cap. It only requires a slight turn of the locking part to gain access to the contents of the thermos. But even if you can’t immediately move it, moving such a plug is much easier.

Here's how to proceed.

  1. Find the clamping ring. Unscrew it by rotating counterclockwise.
  2. Remove the valve. Remove the mechanism from it.
  3. Separate the valve into individual elements. To remove the button, the valve stem is pushed out, being careful not to destroy the retaining ring.
  4. Wash the parts, check their integrity and serviceability.

Then all that remains is to assemble the valve mechanism and install it in place. In cheap Chinese thermoses with a button, you can usually remove the stuck element manually by simply prying it with the sharp tip of a knife or the tip of a screwdriver.

Recipes

As a rule, a thermos is usually used for long trips or for outdoor recreation. Most often, this container is purchased specifically for brewing tea. Which one to cook is a purely personal matter. The only thing is that in the cold season it is customary to use black varieties, and in the summer – green ones.

A tea ceremony using a thermos also takes place, because there are a huge number of recipes for this brewing method. At first glance, preparing ingredients may seem difficult, but in reality it is not.

Fragrant herbs: lemon balm, thyme, mint, medicinal herbs, lemon, ginger and many other components - all this will be an excellent basis for creating a chic bouquet of aromas that will unfold in a thermos.

Tea with lemon in a thermos

To prepare, you need to take lemon, sugar and dry brew of your favorite tea. The use of ginger in this recipe will be very tasty.

If you do take this root, then the step-by-step preparation will look like this:

  • put finely chopped ginger in a thermos and pour boiling water over it;
  • after a few minutes, add a portion of the selected type of tea;
  • Add a few unpeeled but pitted lemon slices after five minutes;
  • let the tea brew for about an hour and then pour into cups.

Tea with ginger in a thermos

Ginger is a wonderful tropical root vegetable that helps cope with colds, lose weight, has a beneficial effect on the digestive tract and many other beneficial properties. will help you gain strength and keep warm in cold weather.

To prepare tea with this root in a thermos, you just need to grate half a medium-sized fruit or cut it into thin slices, put it in a thermos and pour boiling water over it. Let it brew for 40 minutes to an hour and you can safely enjoy the aromatic and healthy drink.

Since, due to the ether content, ginger is endowed with a very specific taste, jam, lemon, apples, rose hips and cinnamon would be appropriate in combination with tea made from it.

Tea with rosehip in a thermos

It is best to prepare this drink at night.

In a thermos - very healthy and tasty:

  • pour boiling water over the thermal container;
  • Pour 40-60 g of dry fruits into a container and pour a liter of mild boiling water;
  • add 8 tsp. sugar (this amount).

By morning you have a drink ready to drink.

Opening methods

Safe and effective methods for opening the lid are to cool or heat it. Using a bottle opener or knife can also help solve this problem, but may damage the thermos.

Method one (under cold water)

This method is suitable for thermoses with external threads. The essence of the method is to place a thermos under cold water to cool. This way the metal thread will begin to narrow, fitting less tightly to the flask, and it will become much easier to unscrew the lid.

Method two (under hot water)

Thermoses with a cap with an internal thread must be placed under hot water. When heated, it will expand and fit less tightly into the main part of the thermos.

We use physical force

Using physical force, you can also open a tightly screwed cap. The best way to do this is to pull the lid up.

We use a bottle opener

If the cork is flat, you can try to pry it off with a bottle opener. This will break the vacuum that has formed inside the thermos and will make it easy to unscrew.

Important! This method should be used very carefully so as not to damage the integrity of the dishes.

Special devices

You can also make your own special device for opening threaded lids. To do this you will need the following materials:

  • rubber;
  • fine-grain sandpaper;
  • long bolt with nut;
  • two wooden planks 20-25 centimeters long.

First, you need to make through holes in the planks of such a diameter that you can easily place a bolt in it.

Next, glue strips of sandpaper onto the planks and thread the bolt into the holes, securing it with a nut. In this case, the sanding strips should remain inside the device, and the free edges of the strips should be connected to each other with an elastic band.

Using this device is quite simple: you need to adjust the size of the opener to the diameter of the lid using a nut. Place the structure on it and carefully turn it. Sandpaper provides a tight adhesion to the metal cover, which greatly facilitates the unscrewing process.

other methods

There are several additional ways to open a thermos:

  1. Wrap the lid with electrical tape and pull it firmly in the direction of the thread;
  2. Use leather gloves when opening (the code fits tightly to the metal without causing slipping);
  3. Knock on the lid and walls;
  4. Try to pry it with a knife, this will break the vacuum inside, and it will be easier to open the thermos.

Bulb material

The type of liquid that can be poured into a thermos depends on the material of the flask. Thus, it is not recommended to pour acidic products into thermoses that have a metal flask - such as tea with lemon, sour compotes, rosehip infusions, etc. The fact is that the acid will in any case interact with the metal, oxidizing it. Since thermoses are made of stainless steel, the release of metal oxidation products in a thermos is safe, but this can significantly affect the taste and smell of drinks. There may be a metallic taste in the mouth. In addition, when we use the thermos frequently, we wash it, and in order to wash it better, we use sponges, because of this, microdamages are formed on the surface of the flask coating, thus, over time, the metallic smell and taste of the liquid being poured will appear faster.

The best option in this case would be a glass flask - you can pour any liquid into it - sour, bitter, and sweet. In addition, glass is easily washed and does not retain foreign odors, unlike thermoses with a metal flask. By the way, there are liquids that are strictly not recommended to be poured into a thermos - these are carbonated drinks and mineral water. They can provoke the plug to break.

Prevention measures

In order to ensure the successful use of a thermos after purchase, it is worth paying attention to preventive measures to eliminate the occurrence of possible problems. First of all, the container must be thoroughly washed with soda, rinsing inside and out. Chemical detergents should not be used. Then you should brew 1 teaspoon of green tea inside, pouring boiling water over the tea leaves. After a few hours, all that remains is to drain the liquid and rinse the container.

There are other preventive measures that can also prevent the plug from getting stuck.

  1. Use a thermos only for storing unsweetened drinks. In this case, it will be possible to avoid sticking of the parts of its design. Sugar can be added directly to the cup.
  2. Always adhere to shelf life. Drinks lose temperature within 12-24 hours after being in the flask. There is no need to store them inside longer.
  3. Inspect and check the neck before use. If there are traces of rust, you should simply throw away the used item.

By following preventive measures, you can prevent possible troubles associated with a stuck stopper in a thermos.

Temperature preservation

In order for the thermos to keep hot food or drinks longer, you should warm the flask immediately before placing food in it. The best option is to pour boiling water into the flask, let it warm up, and pour out the boiling water. In this case, the flask will become hot and will not take away part of the temperature from the hot food or drinks placed in it.

It should be borne in mind that if your thermos flask is made of tempered glass, then it is strictly forbidden to pour boiling water into the thermos if it was just brought in from the cold or if cold food was stored in it. Glass may crack. Therefore, you need to warm up the glass flask gradually: first pour warm water into it, let it warm up, and then pour boiling water.

It is also prohibited to place hot substances whose temperature is more than 100 degrees Celsius in a thermos with a glass flask. For example, such a substance could be very hot oil. The consequences may be cracks in the flask, its deformation and loss of temperature preservation properties.

For long-term storage of cold foods, the same tactics are used as for hot ones - before placing cold food or drinks in a thermos, the flask should be cooled. Pieces of ice or chilled water in the refrigerator may be suitable for cooling.

Instructions for creating a thermos

To create the named container you will need:

  • two bottles, volume 500 ml and 1500 ml respectively;
  • sharp scissors;
  • stationery knife;
  • aluminum foil;
  • several sheets of newspaper;
  • wide tape.

Now let’s figure out how to create a thermos with your own hands - how to make it, for example, from a plastic container:

  1. Cut out the bottom and neck of the future body, and vertically cut the top of the bottle in several places. This is required so that the smaller container fits more tightly into the hole.
  2. Wrap the untouched bottle (flask) in foil, the glossy side of which should remain inside.
  3. Wrap it with newspaper sheets so that the container fits into the body very tightly, preferably with an interference fit.
  4. Insert the small bottle into the large one. Return the cut bottom to its place so that the parts overlap. For greater reliability, secure with 3-4 layers of wide tape.
  5. Wrap the body with foil and adhesive tape - this will help reduce the thermal conductivity a little more.

How to wash a tea thermos?

You bought a good thermos and are actively using it. Here, one fine day in nature, instead of your favorite aromatic tea, you pour a bitter liquid of unknown taste. This happens when the owner does not know how to wash a tea thermos from various types of deposits.

There are dozens of ways to clean a thermos. Here are the most reliable ones:

  • For minor stains, just pour boiling water over a few slices of lemon and leave overnight;
  • stronger deposits are removed with a few tablespoons of soda in combination with rice. Also pour boiling water overnight;
  • Coca-Cola or Fanta left overnight will help remove plaque;
  • The heaviest stains and odors are removed by whitening.

One can say about the thermos: everything ingenious is simple. Use it correctly and it will last for many years.

Benefit

A cup of aromatic and strong tea is the favorite drink of many. This drink is especially relevant in the cold season, and is even more in demand during long walks or while relaxing in nature. At such moments, it is important to have a good and reliable tea thermos on hand.

You can brew a tea drink directly in it and pamper yourself and your family. There is a special technology for brewing this drink, following which you can get all the benefits:

  • the temperature will remain hot for a long time;
  • tea contains a lot of vitamin C and B;
  • you can adjust the strength yourself;
  • Thanks to the tightness of the container, such a drink will remain fresh for a couple of days.

So, if you are one of those who like to travel, go hunting, fishing or on long business trips, a thermos will become a real lifesaver in many situations, because it will help keep the drink ready for use for a long time.

How to make a wooden cork with your own hands?

You can make a simple plug yourself, using even a simple champagne cork. Follow the algorithm:

  1. Take the cork. Wrap it tightly with plain polyethylene or cling film.
  2. Pour any food grade sealant inside.
  3. Insert the product into the neck until it takes shape and hardens. Leave it for at least a day.
  4. Remove the film. Now you can use your homemade lid.

When you pour the sealant, do it outside or on the balcony. The substance has a pungent, unpleasant odor, which is then difficult to remove from the apartment. Instead of a champagne cork, you can use a wine cork. You will need several of these items. Carefully cut and assemble them, then secure with nail polish. Give the structure time to dry.

Some craftsmen can cut the plug to the required size themselves using balsa wood. If you don’t have it, polystyrene foam, which is sold at any hardware store, will do.

  1. Take a piece of foam.
  2. Take measurements of the neck.
  3. Measure the required dimensions.
  4. Cut the plug to the appropriate parameters.

The foam is quite light and does not melt, which is an advantage. When you pour boiling water, the cork may fly out. To avoid this, pierce it with a needle in the center.

The stopper is a necessary part of the thermos, which allows you to increase the tightness and preserve the heat and taste of the contents.

Thermal mugs

In recent years, this type of heating utensil called a thermal mug has been gaining popularity. The main advantage of such a mug is that it is easy to care for and use: it is compact and easy to clean. In addition, modern models of thermal mugs have a beautiful and unique design; they are usually made of aluminum or brushed stainless steel. Many models are equipped with colored lids and handles.

The most primitive thermal mugs are mugs with a silicone lid. These mugs are often made of ceramic. If it falls on the floor, then all the contents flow out. In addition, a ceramic mug will provide not so much a thermal insulating effect as an aesthetic one. Some mugs are made of plastic. But in this case, the mug will absorb the odors of liquids. A plastic mug, like a ceramic mug, is fragile and can break if moved carelessly.

Drinking mugs with a latch have a screw-on lid with a special valve. But if it turns over, its contents will spill out. The highest quality option is a thermal mug with a sealed lid. You can drink from such a mug only after pressing a special button.

One last thing: the only way to check the heat resistance of a device is to test it at home. Pour boiling water into a 1.5-2 liter flask and leave for a day at room temperature. If the next day the water has cooled by more than 50 °C, the quality of the thermos leaves much to be desired, it should be returned to the store.

How to choose

We have decided on the model. But choosing a thermos requires careful consideration. In the store, be sure to shake the thermos. If there is sound and rattling, then it will hold the temperature.

Check that the plug closes tightly and fits well.

Unscrew the cap and smell. It is important to ensure that there are no foreign odors.

Fill the thermos with boiling water. You need to check if the temperature changes after a few minutes.

Harm

A lot of people brew tea in a thermos and carry it with them. It's convenient and fast, but this method is only one side of the coin.

  • Constant exposure to high temperature dulls the aroma of tea over time, and even later completely destroys it;
  • even a large amount of sugar cannot remove the bitterness;
  • in a thermos, the tea turns out cloudy;
  • keeping a drink in a thermos for a long time provokes vitamins C and B;
  • airtight containers are a favorable environment for the growth of bacteria.

If you really want to take some tea with you, it’s better to brew it separately and then pour it into a container without leaving the tea in it.
