How to remove using folk remedies?

To get rid of scale, you don’t have to immediately go to the department with household chemicals. You can cope with salt deposits using folk recipes.

Lemon acid

Citric acid is a universal solvent for salt deposits, allowing you to remove even a thick layer of scale.

Procedure:

  1. Pour citric acid into the device and add water at the rate of 10 g per 1 liter of liquid.

  2. Bring the solution to a boil.
  3. Leave for half an hour to take effect.
  4. Drain the solution and walk along the inner surface of the thermosweat with a foam sponge.
  5. Rinse the device, fill it with clean water, boil and drain. After this, you can use it as usual.

If it was not possible to deal with a thick layer of plaque the first time, the procedure can be repeated again. The preservative is harmless to the thermopot, so it is used without fear of damaging the device.

The video will show you how to clean a thermopot from scale with citric acid:

Vinegar

“Grandma’s recipe” for fighting scale involves using table vinegar. Although the method is ancient, it eliminates scale from modern thermopots 100%.

Procedure:

  • water is poured into the device so that it covers the entire layer of scale;
  • pour vinegar into it at the rate of 50 ml per 1 liter of water;
  • bring the product to a boil;
  • turn off the device, leave the composition for 2 hours with the lid open;
  • drain the product, rinse the thermopot and boil clean water in it.

Vinegar emits a pungent odor when heated. Therefore, the procedure must be carried out in a room with good ventilation. Also, do not bend low over the device and inhale acid fumes.

Ascorbic acid

Vitamin C helps get rid of scale. Like any other product containing acid, ascorbic acid loosens salt deposits, so they can be easily removed. The method cannot be called 100% effective, but you can deal with a small layer of scale using this recipe.

Procedure:

  1. Grind the tablets into powder. For 1 liter of water you will need 1 tablespoon of crushed ascorbic acid.

  2. Pour the powder into the device, fill it with water and bring to a boil.
  3. Leave for 30 minutes.
  4. Pour out the solution and rinse the thermopot with clean water.

The tablets can be used as often as necessary, as they are not capable of damaging the device. However, this method is more suitable for preventing plaque formation.

Soda

Carbonated water containing phosphoric acid will help get rid of scale. It could be:

  • Sprite,
  • Fanta,
  • Coca Cola.

In terms of efficiency, they are not inferior to professional cleaners, so they help cope with even the most difficult stains.

Procedure:

  • pour the drink into the thermopot;
  • leave for half an hour to release gases;
  • bring the product to a boil (do not close the lid so that the soda does not overflow);
  • leave until cool;
  • drain the drink and rinse the device with clean water.

If the thermopot is made of plastic, it is recommended to use Sprite. Using Cola or Fanta may stain the device and require repeated cleaning.

Brine

All opponents of household chemicals can use cucumber pickle to clean the kettle. Its composition is absolutely harmless, and its effectiveness is not inferior to professional cleaners. This is not surprising, because it contains 3 active ingredients: lactic acid from cucumbers, vinegar and salt.

Method of using brine:

  1. Pour the product into the thermopot until it covers the scale completely. If it is not enough, you can add a small amount of water acidified with vinegar.
  2. Turn on the device and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Leave for 15-30 minutes, drain the liquid.
  4. Clean the walls of the thermopot with a sponge.
  5. Rinse the device several times with clean warm water.

This method is safe and effective. Its only drawback is its distinct specific smell. Therefore, cleaning should be done in a room with good ventilation.

To remove scale, you can use not only cucumber, but also tomato brine . To prevent spices or other ingredients from getting into the thermopot, the brine is filtered before use.

Natural remedies: time-tested home recipes

The most acceptable and accessible means in the fight against scale are folk remedies. Here are just a few of them:

  1. Baking soda. Removing scale and limescale using baking soda is quite simple. To do this, pour warm water into a container, add a few tablespoons of soda (at the rate of 1 spoon per 1 liter of water), boil the contents and leave the liquid until it cools completely. After all procedures have been completed, pour out the liquid and rinse the container thoroughly using a soft sponge. The disadvantage of this method is that it is not always possible to remove plaque the first time. The procedures have to be repeated several times. But after this cleaning method there are no chemical residues or a specific smell left.

  1. Acetic essence or table vinegar. Using vinegar involves getting rid of plaque from the first use. The only drawback is that after cleaning the container, an unpleasant vinegar smell remains. To make the smell of vinegar less persistent, boil the liquid (water with a few tablespoons of vinegar dissolved in it) with the top lid open. After getting rid of the scale, you need to boil and change the water several more times to remove the vinegar aroma.
  2. Lemon acid. Using citric acid to clean a thermopot is quite simple. Just as in the previous methods, it should be added to the water when boiling and left for several hours until it cools completely. After using the lemon juice, there will be no scale or unpleasant odor left. To prevent the water from having a sour taste, you need to wipe the inside of the tank with a soft cloth and rinse several times with clean water. In order to completely descale the thermopot, you will have to use 1-2 sachets of citric acid.

  1. Carbonated drinks. No matter how implausible it may sound, it is with the help of ordinary Cola or Sprite that you can remove scale and plaque. Pour a similar carbonated drink into the thermopot and turn it on. After the liquid boils, the scale will completely dissolve.

How to remove with household chemicals?

You can deal with scale using professional cleaners, which are sold in household chemical stores and online markets. The most effective formulations:

  1. Topperr for kettles and water heaters. For 1 liter of water you will need 100-120 ml of solution. The liquid is heated to 50 degrees, left for half an hour and drained. The container is boiled with clean water. The product is non-toxic and is gentle on device parts. The cost of 250 ml of solution is 145 rubles.
  2. Filtero anti-scale tablets for teapots and thermopots. The device is filled 3/4 with water and brought to a boil. Place the tablet inside and leave for 20 minutes. If the plaque layer is thick, use 2 pieces. The solution is drained and the thermopot is rinsed with clean water. The cost of 6 tablets is 110 rubles.
  3. Mellerud for quick descaling. Pour 0.5 liters of water into the device and add 120 ml of solution. Bring the mixture to a boil, leave for 15 minutes, and drain. Rinse the device with plenty of clean water. The cost of 500 ml of solution is 282 rubles.

It is unacceptable to violate the manufacturer's instructions. Professional household chemicals contain acids, which can damage the walls of the thermopot during prolonged contact.

Cleaning electrical appliances with concentrated products

In addition to advertised store-bought products, some concentrates, which every housewife almost always has on hand, will help descale the thermopot. Let's take a closer look at this group of cleansers.

Baking soda and citric acid

To properly clean the thermopot from scale with citric acid and baking soda, you will need to consistently perform the following steps:

  • fill the electrical appliance with clean water;
  • add twenty to thirty grams of baking soda;
  • boil the resulting solution, then pour it into the sink;
  • do the same steps, replacing soda with lemon.

After carrying out hygienic measures, you can easily wash off the scale in the thermopot with a regular soft sponge.

If there is no citric acid in the kitchen, you can use fresh lemons. In such a case, before sending it to the thermopot, two or three whole fruits will need to be thoroughly rinsed with clean water and cut, straight with the peel. Lemons are not only as effective as a dietary supplement, they are much safer. Therefore, they can be used to clean water heating devices even in families with allergies.

How to clean a thermopot at home

  • Thermal pots and electric kettles are often cleaned with citric acid. In this case, it is not necessary to boil the water. Citric acid is more effective than baking soda, but less effective than vinegar. But at the same time it does not have such an unpleasant odor. Pour a sachet of citric acid per liter of water into a kettle of water. Leave the composition for several hours and drain the water, then rinse the thermopot;
  • Instead of citric acid, you can use regular lemon, but this is a less effective method, so the procedure will have to be repeated several times. To clean, pour water into the kettle, cut pieces of lemon and throw them inside. Boil, drain the water and repeat the procedure if necessary;
  • Baking soda removes scale, but not the first time. Therefore, this procedure will have to be repeated. To clean, pour water into the thermopot and add baking soda at the rate of one tablespoon per liter of water. The solution is boiled and left until it cools completely. Then the water is drained, if necessary, the cleaning process is repeated, the soda composition is drained and the kettle is washed;
  • To remove scale, acetic acid 9% is often used. To clean, pour water into the kettle and add two tablespoons of acid per liter. Boil water and leave the solution for several hours. After this, replace the water with fresh water and boil the thermopot again. However, vinegar can leave an unpleasant specific odor, so you will have to boil the kettle several times;
  • To remove complex scale and dirt, use a combined method. To do this, pour water into the kettle and add a tablespoon of soda per liter. Boil the thermopot for 30 minutes, replace the water with fresh water. Add a packet of citric acid and boil again for half an hour. Change the water and add half a tablespoon of acetic acid. The kettle is boiled again for half an hour. The last solution is drained and washed thoroughly;

  • An unusual option to get rid of scale is to use carbonated drinks. To do this, take Sprite, Coca-Cola, Fanta or Pepsi. Pour the selected drink into the device and boil. It has been proven that such drinks effectively remove sediment and scale. It is better to choose Sprite or Sevenup, as they are colorless. Coca-Cola, Fanta and Pepsi may leave dark or bright paint marks on the interior walls;
  • Another unusual method is to use potato peelings. Rinse the potato peels thoroughly and put them in the device, fill them with water, but do not boil them, but leave them for 6-8 hours. Soaked scale is washed off with a sponge and water;
  • Instead of potato peels, you can use apple and/or pear peelings. Elements in the composition of fruit peel effectively cope with scale, darkening and stains, while being gentle and safe. They will return the device to its original color! Rinse the peel thoroughly in running water, place in a kettle and fill with fresh water. Boil the thermopot, drain the water and repeat the procedure. Then rinse the thermopot;
  • Another popular method is to use cucumber or tomato brine. It contains citric acid, so it can remove scale. Pour the brine into a thermopot and boil. Wait until it cools down and drain and rinse the kettle. By the way, brine effectively removes rust;
  • Buy special descaling products in the department or household chemicals store. To wash the thermal sweat in this way, fill the container with water and add or pour in the cleaning agent. Boil water and leave for a certain time, which is indicated in the instructions for the drug. During this period, the scale will dissolve and you can drain the water and wash the kettle.

Cleaning with folk remedies

If there are small children in the house, or one of the family members has allergies, it is better to clean household appliances with natural products that are absolutely safe for the human body. The most effective ones are discussed below.

Potato peelings

Experienced housewives are well aware that raw potatoes contain a large amount of ascorbic acid, which dissolves scale well. Therefore, to clean the thermopot from limescale at home, you can use the following proven method:

  1. Wash raw potatoes thoroughly with plain water.
  2. Peel the vegetable so that the peel is not too thin.
  3. Fill the container a third with water, fill the rest of the space with cleaning products.
  4. Boil the liquid.
  5. Wash the thermopot with any dishwashing gel.

Important! If there is a thick layer of scale on the inner walls of the device, it is permissible not to drain the liquid immediately, but to wait eight to nine hours and boil again. After such actions, there will be no trace of lime deposits left.

Traditional methods of cleaning thermopots

Descaling the thermopot can be done using regular citric acid. To do this, for each liter of volume of the inner flask, you need to dissolve 1-2 tablespoons of dry powder. The exact amount of citric acid is selected based on the degree of contamination. It is better to prepare the cleaning solution not in the flask itself, but in another container, in order to avoid scratches due to the mechanical action of citric acid crystals on the metal or ceramic surface of the flask. After this composition has been poured into the flask, it is necessary to let the water boil in the thermopot, and then unplug it from the network for a while so that the water with citric acid just remains inside the device. Then, if necessary, the solution can be boiled again, poured out of the flask and wiped the inner surface with a soft cloth or dishwashing sponge so that the remaining softened contaminants are completely removed.

Citric acid is a cheap but effective descaler

If citric acid does not completely remove scale, then you can use baking soda. To do this, you need to follow all the same steps. The soda solution is prepared based on the calculation of 1 tablespoon per liter of water. After it has been boiled and poured out of the thermopot, you can pour the citric acid composition inside, followed by boiling.

Using baking soda will also help remove scale.

Instead of citric acid, you can use 9% table vinegar to get rid of scale in a thermopot. To do this, you need to take it at the rate of 50 ml for every liter of water. After boiling the resulting mixture, you need to let it stand inside the device for at least 2 hours, and then pour it out and wipe the flask with a cloth or sponge. The disadvantage of this method is the obvious smell of vinegar, even after the inner surface of the flask is washed under running water. In order to remove the smell of vinegar from the thermopot after cleaning it, you need to boil it several times with plain water without closing the lid. After this, using special detergents, rinse the device with a soft cloth or sponge.

9% vinegar is a safe but strong-smelling descaler

Also, to clean the thermopot from scale, it is suitable to use modern carbonated drinks such as Sprite or Cola. Due to the fact that the first option is colorless and does not contain any dyes, it is best to use it. The disadvantage of this method is the significant cost of such cleaning, since it may be necessary to pour 2 or 3 bottles of soda into the thermopot.
