Five-minute blueberry jam for the winter - the best 10 recipes

If you grow blueberries in your garden or collect them every year in the forest, learn how to cook them as a tasty and healthy delicacy for the winter. Blueberry jam is eaten instantly; you don’t even have to store it for a long time. There are several ways to prepare it, the simplest and most common recipe is “Five Minute”, but there are recipes with the addition of citrus fruits, lemon juice and even without cooking. Find a method that works best for you and enjoy berry flavor all winter long.

General recommendations

You should start making jam immediately after picking the berries - you shouldn’t store them; in extreme cases, you can leave them in the refrigerator until tomorrow. Freshly picked blueberries need to be freed from debris (twigs, leaves, blades of grass) and damaged fruits. It is not customary to wash wild berries, but if in doubt, you need to do this very carefully so as not to damage the fruit. Wash them in a colander, then be sure to dry them on a horizontal surface on a towel. You can put the blueberries in a bowl and fill them with water - then all the debris will float to the surface.

Five-minute blueberry jam is prepared in different ways. For the classic version, you only need berries and sugar. The fruits are covered with granulated sugar, the berries are allowed to release their juice and heat treatment begins.

There are recipes that include water - in this case, sugar syrup is usually boiled first, then the fruit is immersed in it.

Most often, five-minute jam is made from fresh blueberries, but you can also use frozen berries. The berries can be left whole, or mashed with a masher to make something like jam.

Blueberries can be combined with other forest and garden berries, obtaining an original taste and bright aroma.

Citrus juice, mint, and various spices can serve as additives.

It is best to cook blueberry jam in an enamel bowl. It is recommended to stir the jam with a wooden spoon.

For blueberry jam, you need to take fresh, undamaged berries without signs of rotting. They should be ripe, but not overripe.

For 5 minutes, blueberries usually use a little less sugar than berries.

During the preparation of jam, an airy foam forms on its surface. It should be removed with a slotted spoon and then used as a dessert for tea: drink as a bite or spread on bread.

Jars for laying out jam must be sterilized in the oven, over steam or in the microwave.

Due to the fact that five-minute jam is cooked for a short time and less sugar is added to it, it has a shorter shelf life than classic jam and spoils faster. Therefore, you need to store this delicacy in the refrigerator.

Advice! It is not recommended to roll five-minute blueberries in large jars for the winter - once opened, they will not be stored for long, even in the refrigerator.

Features of preparing blueberry jam

There are several variations of preparing this blueberry dessert. To improve and enhance the taste during cooking, it is recommended to add honey, berries, citrus fruits or spices to the jam.

To preserve the product for a long time, some people prepare it in the form of jelly, grinding the berries or leaving the fruits whole.

A distinctive feature of five-minute blueberry jam is that there is no need to clean the berries from twigs and any small debris (in most cases). All it takes is rinsing with water, after which you can start preparing the dessert.

In many recipes, the main ingredients are blueberries and water. Some additional ingredients are not always indicated there. However, without them, blueberry jam is not as tasty. Some housewives recommend using a small amount of lemon juice or water.

At the very beginning, a syrup is made, which is subsequently poured over the blueberries. For this purpose, it is better to use enamel containers (they do not oxidize).

Classic five-minute blueberry jam is a liquid syrup with whole berries

Classic recipe

The easiest way to prepare the berries is to cover them with sugar and then bring them to a boil a couple of times. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare, and the finished product will delight you with a bright berry aroma and, of course, a wonderful rich taste.

Compound:

  • 1-1.2 kg of berries;
  • 3 cups granulated sugar.

How to cook:

Sort all the berries, remove any foreign debris and rinse through a sieve. Wait until the water drains and the berries dry a little. Place prepared blueberries into a large saucepan.

Add granulated sugar to it and leave for 2.5-3 hours.

During this time, the fruits will begin to release juice.

Place the pan on the stove and turn on low heat. When the sugar dissolves, reduce the heat and skim off the resulting foam.

From the moment of boiling, time it for 5 minutes, and when the time is up, turn off the heat and let the jam cool. You can leave it overnight to infuse better.

Bring the cooled berry mixture to a boil again, cook for 5 minutes and turn off. The product is ready, now pour it into jars. The container must be sterilized with steam or processed in the microwave, then the jam will last a long time.

Screw the lids on the jars and turn them over. Once the contents of the jars have cooled, move them for storage in the cellar or basement, or you can put them in the refrigerator.

  • 800-870 g granulated sugar;

Carefully transfer the berry mass from the cup into the syrup and stir well. Continue cooking the contents of the pan for another 15-20 minutes, and then pour in the lemon juice. It is better to take freshly squeezed juice, then the aroma will be more concentrated. Then turn off the heating and pour the finished product into a sterilized container.

Ingredients

:

  • 2000 grams of sugar;
  • 4-5 grams of citric acid;
  • 1 cup boiling water.

Step-by-step blueberry jam recipe

Pour small blueberries into a basin, where you must first pour cold, clean water. Rinse the berries in a circular motion, picking out emerging leaves and twigs.

Scatter the washed blueberries on a towel to dry a little. When this happens, add in batches and grind the berries to a puree-like consistency.

At the same time, pour the planned amount of sugar into a wide bowl. Immediately pour a glass of water there.

Boil the syrup until the sweet crystals are completely dissolved

After this, carefully pour the blueberry mixture

While actively mixing with a long spatula, simmer the blueberry jam over low heat for 35-45 minutes until the desired thickness is achieved.

Now pour the contents of the basin through the thinnest sieve into another container. Once again, bring the resulting berry mixture to a boil with the addition of citric acid. At the end, pour the jam into the jars and immediately tighten the lids and cool.

Five-minute strawberry jam in a slow cooker

Cooking time: 6 hours

Number of servings: 2 cans of 0.5 liters

Ingredients:

  • Strawberries – 1 kilogram
  • Lemon - half a piece
  • Sugar – 1.2 kilograms

Cooking process:

Rinse the strawberries very carefully in plenty of cold water, being careful not to damage the fragile berries. After all the berries have been washed, place them in a colander and allow the excess liquid to drain. When the berries have dried a little, remove the green tails from them and check the berries for dented or rotten barrels. Carefully place the washed and sorted strawberries into the multicooker bowl, and then sprinkle the berries evenly with sugar. It is best to arrange the berries and sugar in layers: a layer of strawberries, a layer of sugar, a layer of strawberries, a layer of sugar. The last layer must be sugar. Thanks to this method, the strawberries will release juice faster, and the berries will remain intact. Let the strawberries stand in this position for 2-3 hours

During this time, the berries should give a sufficient amount of juice. Once the specified time has passed, gently stir the berries using a soft silicone spatula. Set the “Multi-cook” mode, set the temperature to 100°C, time – 60 minutes. Press “Start”, but do not close the multicooker lid. When 10-15 minutes have passed, stir the jam again

During the entire cooking time, stir the berries about 3 times, but do it very carefully so as not to damage the integrity of the delicate berries. Rinse the lemon and squeeze the juice out of it. When the multicooker notifies you that the cooking mode has ended, remove the foam from the jam and add lemon juice. Stir. Thanks to the lemon note, the jam will acquire an unusual taste and thicker consistency. Prepare the jars in advance: rinse them with baking soda in hot water, and then hold them over steam for 10-15 minutes. Don’t forget to wash the lids as well. Pour the hot jam into the jars and close with lids (tin or screw). Turn the jars upside down and leave them in this position until they cool completely. Tasty and aromatic jam is ready. Enjoy your meal!
