Life is an unpredictable thing. Probably, each of you has experienced a similar situation at least once: there are several hours left before a very important business meeting, and your favorite and most beautiful shirt suddenly turns out to be dirty. What to do? In such situations, as a rule, there is no time to think and search for an answer on the Internet. Therefore, we recommend that you read this article in advance. In it you will find the answer to a very important question: how can you quickly dry clothes after washing?
The first thing to do in such a situation (after the washing itself, of course) is to find a reliable source of heat in the house. It could be:
- hair dryer;
- fan heater;
- microwave;
- iron;
- battery;
- oven.
Next, we’ll look at how you can use each of the above devices for emergency drying of wet items after washing.
Drying things in the washing machine
The washing machine can easily dry freshly washed clothes
After washing, the clothes can be returned to the drum and a special additional drying mode can be started. The main thing is to choose the appropriate temperature mode (for this you need to check the product information label).
If your home unit does not provide such a mode, there is another option. Place several dry bath towels into the washing machine drum along with the wet item and run the maximum possible spin cycle, based on the type of specific fabric. During this procedure, the towels will absorb excess moisture. After this, the item will need to be further processed with an iron, and it will be dried and ready for use!
Emergency ways to dry very quickly
If clean and dry clothes are needed urgently, there are several emergency options.
Oven
To dry things in the oven, you need:
- Turn on the oven at 90–120 degrees.
- Place wet clothes on a baking sheet lined with food foil.
- Place it in the oven.
- Close the door a little. It cannot be completely closed.
- Turn things over on the baking sheet every 5 minutes.
Microwave
The method is more suitable for small things:
- socks;
- panties;
- children's clothing;
- shorts;
- T-shirts.
You will need:
- Place wet items on a rack inside the oven.
- Set to the highest power.
- Set the time to 30 seconds.
It will take several approaches (depending on the size of the item).
Electric dryer

How to quickly and effectively dry clothes after washing? An iron can handle this task very quickly. It needs to be warmed up thoroughly, first turning off the steam function. The wet item should be carefully ironed on both sides (first from the inside, then from the front side), and then hung on the back of a chair or hanger. After ten minutes, the procedure can be repeated. Socks and underwear should be ironed through an additional layer of fabric.
Stage two – air drying
On a fine summer day there is no need to use any heating devices - they can be replaced perfectly:
- Sun;
- wind.
The T-shirt must be hung on the open balcony by its hangers (so as not to stretch). In this case, be sure to spread the front and back apart - this will allow air to circulate freely inside, which will speed up drying several times.
Be careful - ultraviolet radiation affects some dyes (red, blue) very intensely. This may cause your item to fade. Relieves you from danger:

While it is warming up, take a chair with a back and hang your wet clothes on it. It is important to constantly monitor the drying process of clothes in order to avoid possible fire. If you periodically turn wet things over, they will dry much faster. In general, the drying process will take approximately one hour.
Some people take great risks by hanging clothes directly on the oven door. For fire safety reasons, this is still not worth doing. In addition, if your oven is not perfectly clean and washed, the aromas of what you cooked in it before can easily transfer to your business suit or trousers.
Remove excess moisture
Before drying, you need to remove as much moisture from the fabric as possible. Wring out the items well by hand or in the washing machine. Another half of the moisture can be quickly removed by drying clothes with towels. Unfold a large terry towel on a flat surface and lay an item (for example, a shirt) on top. Now roll the towel together with the item into a roller (tube). Rub this roller thoroughly with your fists on all sides - the towel will absorb excess moisture that you were unable to squeeze out and the wet item will become twice as drier.

What about woolen items? After all, they cannot be ironed or wrung out in a machine. In this case, a hairdryer or a fan heater will help you.

When installing a dryer, the room must contain maximum moisture; if this is not done, the laundry will take a long time to dry. To prevent this kind of trouble, you need to ventilate the room or it is possible to purchase a special moisture thermostat. Therefore, even if you don’t have a balcony, it doesn’t matter, bed linen can be dried in the room at a certain air humidity.
Other options for quickly drying clothes
If the weather outside is hot and windy, feel free to take your wet clothes outside to dry! The warm rays of the sun and the hot wind will cope with this task much better than any household appliance.
There is another drying method, and it is quite original. It will require a large terry towel and... the warmth of the human body. Wrap the wet item in a towel as tightly as possible, and then sit on top of it. The moisture will be absorbed into the towel. After 5-10 minutes, you will need to change the towel and repeat the whole procedure again.
Rules for drying different types of fabric
Wool
Woolen items cannot be dried vertically; they stretch out and lose their shape. You should not dry them in the washing machine either.
To rid wool of water, wrap the item in a towel, roll it up and blot it with your hands.
Linen
For linen fabrics, it is prohibited to use any type of drying other than natural. You can hang linen clothes on hangers and wait until they dry.
Viscose
Viscose, like linen, is not recommended to be dried in washing machines and electric dryers. Items made of viscose can be dried either by hanging them on a line or hangers, or by wrapping them in a towel.
Silk
Silk is a very vulnerable fabric. Do not hang silk items on a line. Hang it on a hanger or lay it out on a terry towel and wait until it dries.
Cotton
It is also better to lay out cotton clothes on a towel, and when they dry well but remain a little damp, they can be ironed.
Capron
Nylon is a very delicate fabric. To dry it, you need to blot it with a terry towel and then hang it on a clothesline.
Lavsan

Iron dry
There is an iron in almost every home. Therefore, it is easiest to use it. When wet fabric comes into contact with the hot surface of the iron, the moisture evaporates and the clothes become dry.
Place the damp item on a table or ironing board and iron with a hot iron until the material is dry.
However, such drying is not suitable for woolen and knitted items: the fabric may become deformed (stretch, shrink) or even stick to the sole of the iron.
Do swimsuits need to be washed?

- Use detergents suitable for the most “capricious” materials.

- Wash swimsuits separately from other laundry.
- Never wash colored and white bikinis together.
- Do not use the spin cycle, especially when washing elastic swimsuits.
- Do not use rinse aids. The substances contained in these products are harmful to elastane; it can lose its elasticity and appearance.
- Do not use dry mode.
How to dry with electrical appliances
A hairdryer will be an alternative if the weather outside is bad. They dry a T-shirt like this:
- hung on hangers;
- the bottom is folded up and secured with clothespins;
- set the device to the most powerful mode;
- a stream of hot air is directed into the neck and sleeves;
- then the clothespins are picked up and blown from bottom to top;
- at the last stage they go along the seams.
The T-shirt is left to dry naturally for a while.
A fan heater will rid your clothes of moisture in 5 minutes, but only if you have thoroughly wrung them out using one of the methods described above. Here are the instructions:
- a T-shirt on hangers must be hung in a corner (or in a closet);
- on the contrary, install a fan, and then turn it on to maximum heating;
- periodically the thing is rotated along a vertical axis;
- They also help the device with a hand-held hair dryer.
Do not place the item on heaters, especially coil heaters, as it will immediately ignite.
How to store swimsuits
Wet swimsuits should not be left in a closed plastic bag for a long time. This can lead to damage to the item and the appearance of an unpleasant odor, which is then difficult to get rid of.
Dry swimsuits should be placed in an opaque pouch (bag) made of breathable material. It is better to put a swimsuit bodice with push-up cups in a special handbag to prevent the cups from becoming deformed.
