Fleas? Very bad…
The flea is a person’s most faithful and constant companion in life.
We have been unable to get rid of this little creature for many millennia. Hordes of her ruthless accomplices occupy our homes to this day, causing a lot of problems and by no means minor troubles for both people and their pets - dogs and cats. Is it really impossible to get rid of fleas once and for all?
How to protect your pets from fleas?
It turns out that it's not that simple. Ectoparasite insects, which include fleas, are incredibly resilient and adaptable. One destroyed one is replaced by thousands of new blood-sucking creatures. Up to two thousand species of fleas are known, about sixty of which live in our latitudes. They live not only on domestic animals, but also in human homes: in cracks in the floor and walls, carpets, upholstered furniture, clothes, annoying both people and their pets with bites. Such a neighborhood causes a lot of trouble, and in advanced cases, it is possible to evict uninvited tenants only with the help of a complete sanitary treatment of the house.
The first symptom of a flea infestation is that the animal begins to become restless, chewing and scratching furiously in areas where it feels itchy from flea bites. Examine your pet's fur and skin - you will definitely notice, if not the parasites themselves, then traces of their presence: eggs or excrement. In advanced cases, the animal develops dermatitis, weeping eczema that is difficult to treat, and alopecia. Small puppies and kittens are especially affected by fleas.
Pets cannot get rid of fleas on their own
Considering that fleas carry pathogens of up to three dozen diseases dangerous to humans, the question of how to get rid of parasites is very important. Serious infections and parasitic problems are transmitted through the bites of these blood-sucking insects:
- plague;
- encephalitis;
- anthrax;
- listeriosis;
- salmonellosis;
- fungal infections;
- tapeworms.
Even if there is no infection, flea bites are very unpleasant for humans in themselves: they cause itching, redness, and severe allergic reactions.
It's good that they are small...
When magnified many times, the baby flea looks like a monster from a science fiction horror movie.
Meet the flea - a scary monster and world record holder in high jumping
The flea does not live long, but it is fruitful: in two years, the female manages to give birth to up to five hundred similar individuals, each of which, within a month after birth, also begins to actively reproduce and reproduce.
The flea's body is ideally designed to hide in animal fur.
The nimble blood-sucking insect has perfectly adapted to a parasitic lifestyle. A flea maneuvers through animal fur like a snake in the jungle. It is very difficult to catch it, and once caught, crush it: the flattened body of the small parasite is reliably protected by a hard chitinous shell. Neither a dog nor a cat is able to cope with the invasion of bloodsuckers. How to help your pet?
What to do with them?
Declare a merciless war on them! There are no and cannot be compromises in the fight against parasites. Or will you continue to provide housing and food for these disgusting little monsters? And in response they will begin to torment you, your children and animals - literally drink blood, bite painfully and infect with all sorts of ailments... Patience and inflexibility are your main weapons
Wash, vacuum, freeze. Frequent cleaning of the room with washing and vacuuming is, of course, a preventive measure. But by creating unfavorable conditions for the existence of fleas, it will prevent parasites from feeling at ease on your territory.
The most important thing is cleaning the house
Ventilate the room more often, especially in winter - these small creatures love not only comfort, but also warmth, and cannot stand the cold at all!
Cold kills fleas
Brush your animals every day. Daily brushing of your pet's fur with a fine comb helps mechanically remove fleas. Of course, this should be done on a walk, not at home. The procedure will not get rid of parasites completely, but in combination with other means, the unpleasant problem will be solved.
It is advisable to comb fleas out of fur daily.
It is better that the comb is metal, and its teeth are hard and as frequent as possible. But even daily combing will not remove all adult parasites and their eggs from the fur, and the procedure will definitely not stop new fleas.
Methods for controlling carpet fleas
If your apartment is located in a “risk zone” (ground floor, presence of animals, unhygienic neighbors, etc.), the list of daily preventive measures should include:
- mandatory wet cleaning of the floor and surfaces at a height of 1.5 m from its level;
- daily ventilation;
- thorough examination of pets;
- disposal of food scraps;
- vacuuming carpets. At the same time, the bag from the vacuum cleaner is carefully shaken out so that insects do not remain in the dust and do not breed there.
In general, an “anti-flea” set of measures should look like this:
All possibilities for the appearance of fleas in the apartment are analyzed. If these are animals, they are treated with insecticidal preparations and put on a collar. When fleas penetrate through the basement or technical floor, protective nets are placed on the ventilation ducts, cracks in the floors are sealed, and windows on the first floors are also protected with nets. The premises are thoroughly cleaned. Floors, window sills, doorways, furniture, and baseboards are washed with a soap-alkaline solution. All soft, fluffy surfaces, furniture, toys are vacuumed (preferably using steam). Linen and clothes with detected insects are washed in hot water. If possible, it is boiled with the addition of bleach. Blankets, pillows, mattresses are placed in the active sun or frost. You should keep them there for as long as possible. It is best to cover rugs, carpets, and paths with snow. Purchase the product against genital fleas in the required quantity through a retail chain, with the accompanying certificates of conformity. You need to focus on the fact that for processing 10 sq.m. area you will need one can of aerosol insecticidal preparation
This could be KRA-universal, Klesh-kaput, Super Cobra, Super aerosol “Clean House”, Blockbuster, Kombat and, of course, Dichlorvos. With the windows and doors closed, thoroughly treat all areas, paying special attention to “problem” areas: baseboards, the space under carpets, behind furniture, wallpaper at a height of one and a half meters, the floor (cracks in it). Keep the rooms without access to air for the time specified in the instructions included with the disinfectant (usually at least 2 hours). Organize thorough ventilation of the house or apartment until the smell disappears completely. Postpone wet cleaning for 5 days. This is necessary so that the larvae that survive after treatment in the cracks die under the residual effect of the insecticide
After this, wash everything with soapy water. Periodically repeat the treatment every week to destroy the “flea offspring” that have appeared during this time.
Insecticide treatment can be done in-house
Eliminating fleas with home remedies
You can try to eliminate insects using time-tested home remedies:
- Salt or borax. Apply a thin layer of salt (fine) or borax to the entire surface of the carpet and leave overnight. Vacuum thoroughly in the morning. The pet should not be allowed onto the treated carpet until all pests have disappeared. Crystals of substances stick to the flea and, when rubbed, cause the insect to bleed, causing it to die.
- Vinegar. Mix equal parts vinegar, cologne and camphor. Spray the floors, the area around the baseboards and carpets.
- Soda. Mix baking soda with table salt and treat the carpet with the mixture. Leave for 12 hours, then vacuum thoroughly.
- Wormwood or tansy. You can place branches of plants in the corners of the room and near the door. The strong smell of plants will repel insects.
- Essential oils (lavender, eucalyptus, orange, lemon). Their aqueous solutions can be used to wash the floor indoors, and the essence can be applied to carpeting in several places.
- Frost and sun. Take the carpet outside and leave it for several hours. Low temperatures and ultraviolet rays kill pests, and even parasite eggs die.
The most reliable way to get rid of insects is to carry out pest control with the help of professionals. If independent attempts to get rid of pests do not produce results, you should contact the SES or special private companies involved in the destruction of parasites. Professionals will select the right product to eliminate pests and help you get rid of them in a short time. The guarantee they provide ensures your home will be free of unwanted guests for at least a year.
The flea is a blood-sucking insect and belongs to the order of arthropods. The length of its body is only 1-5 mm, but there are some rare species that reach 1 cm. Fleas do not have wings, but have strong and long limbs, thanks to which they move. Some individuals can make long jumps to considerable heights.
If the environment is favorable, the flea lives on average from several months to 2-3 years, and can go without food for a long time. The color of the insect varies from yellow to black, depending on its species and habitat.
The main reasons for the appearance of fleas in apartments:
- migration of insects from neighbors;
- from public corridors and entrances;
- from pets;
- dust (for example, after repair);
- living in lower floors or basements;
- unsanitary conditions and lack of hygiene;
- from people's clothes and shoes;
- from rodents (rat fleas).
Traditional methods and recipes for use at home
Our grandmothers and mothers mostly used simple recipes from improvised means, because in those years there was not such a variety of household chemicals.
Natural substances did an excellent job of removing stains, preserving the family budget and the aesthetic appearance of the carpets.
Here are some of the most effective methods and budgetary means:
How to clean with laundry soap?
It is a real lifesaver.
Removes stains not only from clothes, but also from carpets. Before use, you must prepare a solution based on water (1 liter), soap shavings and turpentine (1 tablespoon each). All ingredients are thoroughly mixed to form a good foam.
Apply the solution using a soft bristle brush. Then wipe off the dirt with a cloth. After washing the foam, the carpet is left to dry. After airing, the smell of turpentine will go away completely.
Baking Soda and Vinegar: Fast and Effective
The cleaning procedure consists of several stages:
- First, sprinkle the stain generously with soda and leave for 30 minutes.
- After this, the powder is removed with a vacuum cleaner.
- In 1 liter of warm water you need to dilute 1 tbsp. l. vinegar (9%). The resulting solution is poured into a spray bottle and sprayed onto the carpet.
- After half an hour, it is cleaned with a stiff brush, moving strictly in the direction of the pile.
Soda and vinegar (1 tablespoon each) can also be diluted with water (800 ml) with the addition of a small amount of washing powder. The solution is suitable for spraying and acts even faster – in 10 minutes.
Soda
The principle of operation and method of application is the same - spraying. For 5 liters of slightly warmed water, use ½ cup of powder.
The solution is applied for approximately 30 minutes. Then all that remains is to vacuum the carpet.
You can also cope with dust deposits using dry soda:
- it is scattered on the surface,
- rub lightly
- collected with a vacuum cleaner.
Read more about ways to clean carpets using baking soda here.
Peroxide
One of the most effective ways to remove unpleasant stains from the carpet and restore its brightness and freshness.
First you need to prepare the washing liquid: combine 0.5 cups of peroxide with soda (2 tablespoons) and stir until the grains are completely dissolved.
Spray the carpet with thin streams and wipe away dirt with a soft cloth, then apply the solution again and let it “work” for 15 minutes.
If necessary, rub the stain several more times and dry the carpet completely. To do this, you can use a fan or a small outdoor fireplace.
Washing powder
Suitable for different types of carpets: natural and synthetic.
It also copes with the most common stains. You need to dissolve a little powder in a bucket or basin. You need to stir it vigorously so that the granules are completely dissolved, otherwise they will penetrate deep into the pile and will be difficult to clean.
To work with soap composition, it is better to use a sponge.
Lemon acid
Breaks down even the toughest stains. Apply a little concentrated solution or fresh juice to the carpet. After a couple of hours, it is removed with plain water. Washing is necessary to prevent the fibers from sticking together.
Lemon will help cope with household odors (smoke from the kitchen, animal odors, etc.).
Snow
There is nothing better than natural carpet cleaning. The frost will kill bacteria and dust mites. Dry snow will cope with traces of blood and “surprises” from pets.
You need to rub the rug with snow on both the front and back sides. Turning it upside down, you can walk on it so that as much dust as possible comes out of the pile. The remaining snow is swept away with a broom.
After such cleaning, the house will be filled with the smell of freshness that no chemical substance can provide.
Ways to enter the house
Important! A dirty environment is the most convenient “springboard” for the destructive activities of carpet fleas.
Dampness, lack of ventilation and sunlight in the room are also considered favorable factors for the appearance of fleas in the home.
Since small pests cause significant harm to humans, it is necessary to fight them. The fight will not be easy - carpet fleas deftly hide in paths, floor crevices, behind baseboards, and in furniture upholstery. This is where the females lay their eggs. Young individuals, together with adults, soon emerge from their shelters in order to find “victim” and food. They bite painfully, and attack both pets and humans. If carpet fleas are found in the apartment, there is nothing else left to do but get rid of the pests as quickly as possible.
Independent actions
- Initially, a “quarantine” should be introduced for the infected animal. It is isolated and treated with anti-flea medication.
- Clean carpets and rugs using a conventional vacuum cleaner or steam generator. In this way, adult insects and nits are removed.
- For high-quality cleaning of carpets and paths, use salt and baking soda mixed in the same proportions. Sprinkle the resulting powder mixture onto the carpet surface and rub in thoroughly. Leave it overnight. In the morning, you need to actively vacuum the carpet. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the mixture of baking soda and salt.
- Treat the carpet with one of the insecticides or some product borrowed from the well of folk wisdom.
Advice! You can use anti-flea shampoo designed for washing dogs to wash carpets.
Help from specialists
Sometimes you have to turn to the services of a sanitary service - when traditional methods or classical insecticides do not work, as well as when there is a large-scale infestation of carpet fleas. Exterminators use potent drugs (Biorin, Sinuzan, Empire, etc.) that will definitely rid the house of fleas. After qualified treatment, there is usually no need for a repeat procedure.
Folk recipes
If you don’t want to use aggressive chemicals in your home, you can try to destroy carpet pests using traditional methods:
- Wormwood + tansy + eucalyptus. To prepare a potion that will help kill fleas, 2 table. l. wormwood is mixed with tansy, eucalyptus leaves (one tablespoon each). The dry mixture is poured with a glass of boiling water. Insist for 10 hours. The mixture is sprayed onto areas where fleas accumulate.
- Wormwood + pine shavings. The dry mixture is used to cover floors and upholstered furniture. Carpet fleas do not like the smell of these plants, and therefore will quickly leave the house.
- Freezing. This method is not universal. However, if flea control occurs in the winter and it is possible to leave the room open, the technique can be an excellent alternative to chemical treatment.
- Ultraviolet. Rugs and rugs are taken out into the hot sun. Eggs and fleas are sensitive to direct intense rays.
Chemistry against fleas
Flea control using chemicals requires great care. Poisons have a toxic effect not only on harmful insects. They also have a negative impact on a person’s well-being. But in cases where traditional methods are ineffective, one has to resort to “heavy artillery.”
If you have carpet fleas, you can get rid of them at home using chemicals. The processing process must be done quickly. Be sure to use personal protective equipment. After treatment, you need to leave the room for several hours, or better yet, for a couple of days.
The following insecticides are popular:
- “Dichlorvos” for crawling pests - the aerosol is sprayed well on the floor and furniture. The premises are left for five hours. Next, the rooms are well ventilated. To treat an apartment you need approximately 10 cans of the product.
- “Butox” is a low-toxic, but quite effective remedy for carpet fleas. For rough floors you need 30 ml/10 l of water. For smooth floors – 20 ml/10 l of water. The solution is applied to the floors. Do not wash off for three days. Residents must vacate the home during this time.
Before starting treatment, you must carefully study the instructions for the specific drug. Compliance with all instructions specified in it is strictly necessary.
Treatment
Fleas are ubiquitous insects. Despite preventive measures, rabbits can become infected with fleas at any time of the year.
Symptoms of tick infestation are similar to flea infestations, so it is important to accurately determine the correct diagnosis so as not to make a mistake with treatment
Flea treatment for rabbits must be prescribed by a veterinarian
Almost all anti-flea products are overly toxic for them, and the body is very sensitive to poisons, so treatment must be carried out carefully so that the animals do not die and remain healthy
If it is not possible to contact a veterinarian, you can carry out treatment yourself at your own risk. What to do if your rabbit has fleas.
It is necessary to use products specially designed for treating rabbits:
- Flea drops for rabbits. Apply to the withers.
- Flea shampoo. For therapeutic and preventive bathing.
- Flea lotion. Spray until the coat is lightly moistened.
- Insecticidal solutions. Wet or spray onto the wool.
Special drops are used to get rid of fleas. The product is applied to the withers so that the animal cannot lick it off and become poisoned.
Geraniol is a colorless oily liquid, non-toxic aromatic oil. Used in shampoos and lotions. The animal is processed once a month.
Carbaryl - lotion or shampoo. Apply 2 times a week for a month.
Neostomazan - 1 ml. the mixture contains 50 mg. transmix (isomers of β-cypermethrin) and 5 mg. tetramethrin. An emulsion that can get rid of insects in one go is prepared immediately before use. For treating rabbits and indoors 1 ml. Neostomazan is diluted in 1 liter of water. Spray evenly onto the animal's body. All surfaces of the external environment are treated.
Bolfo - spray. The treatment is done outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. During processing, you should wear protective gloves and use a respirator or gauze bandage. It is advisable to wear a protective suit. The animal's fur should be lifted with your hand and sprayed with spray until lightly moistened.
Butox 50 – 5% solution of the active ingredient deltamethrin. For treating an animal 1 ml. the solution is diluted in 4 liters of water. Rabbits are sprayed with a spray bottle. Swallowing the drug is prohibited. Easily penetrates the skin and is then excreted through the intestines.
Cages and rooms where rabbits live are also sprayed. For this purpose 1 ml. Butox 50 is diluted in 1.5 liters. water. At the end of the treatment, the premises are closed for 2 hours, and after that everything must be well ventilated. During processing it is also necessary to use protective equipment.
Stronghold is a solution for single external use. Dosage: 0.1 ml. 6% solution per 1 kg. weight. Apply to the withers. After 30 minutes it is completely absorbed into the skin. During treatment, animals are isolated for 4 hours so as not to lick each other's fur.
After using the flea medication, you can use the following auxiliary products:
- Actovegin is an ointment, gel or cream for external use. Accelerates the healing of any wounds.
- Levomekol is an antimicrobial ointment used to treat purulent wounds.
These medications help heal and relieve itching. Rabbits scratch their skin less.
What else is there in your arsenal of tools?
Do not neglect available folk methods. There are many recipes for removing genital fleas. In this case, accessible and inexpensive products and herbs are used. Regular baking soda in a solution can be used to treat carpets. Once in the insect’s body, it “eats” the insides and accelerates the death of fleas. In the corners of rooms, near the ventilation holes, you can hang herbs with strong aromas that create a deterrent effect: wormwood, mint, tansy, parsley, eucalyptus, etc. For preventive purposes, it is recommended to wipe surfaces with a solution of table vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or infusions of the above herbs.
The fight against fleas will be crowned with success if it is carried out systematically and consistently, without being content with half measures. In critical cases of infestation of a premises by insects, you need to seek help from the disinfection department of the sanitary and epidemiological service or a special enterprise that has permission for this type of activity.

At home, you can use wormwood branches and shavings of coniferous trees - cedar, spruce. Wormwood can be hung in the corners, placed near the threshold. If you follow these measures, fleas will not enter your home - the smell will scare them away.
Methods for removing carpet fleas
When carpet fleas appear, experienced housewives can tell you how to get rid of such pests at home. They get rid of them mechanically or chemically. Professional preparations or folk remedies can be used.
The choice of method or product depends on individual preferences, as well as the degree of contamination of the room.
Mechanical cleaning
General cleaning of the house is the first step towards getting rid of fleas. It should be carried out especially carefully in places where pests accumulate. If fleas appear, it is not enough to vacuum the carpet in the usual way.
To achieve the best results, the vacuum cleaner must be used in the correct way:
- The vacuum bag is first emptied and the filters are cleaned.
- You need to vacuum at maximum power for 15-20 minutes.
- The vacuum cleaner should not just be pushed, but rather put serious pressure on the nozzle.
- Vacuuming should be done strictly sequentially: start from one end of the room, and slowly, stripe by stripe, go every 2-3 m².
- It is especially important to thoroughly vacuum under furniture, since blood-sucking parasites hide in dark, hard-to-reach places. To get to them, put a long narrow attachment on the vacuum cleaner pipe.
- Repeat the manipulation at least 2 times, morning and evening for 1-2 weeks.
Although the primary goal is to get rid of fleas on the carpet, it is also advisable to vacuum pillows, curtains, stuffed animals, rugs and other decorative items with pile, as well as the area behind baseboards. This is due to the fact that such parasites are capable of jumping to a considerable height.
If they are not vacuumed, the insects will repopulate the carpet.
Professional pest control
Insecticide service specialists know well how to remove fleas from carpets. First, an employee of the company visits the house and assesses the degree of infestation, determines the area where the parasites are located, as well as the source of infection.
Based on this data, he develops a destruction strategy and determines the scale of work.
Insects can be poisoned in various ways. The choice of technology for eliminating parasites and the selection of insecticides is determined by the size of the population and the financial capabilities of the customer.
Flea sprays
When looking for a way to get rid of carpet fleas in the house, some people choose aerosols. A spray against such insects contains one or more types of insecticides.
Popular means:
- Control Home. In just 5-10 minutes, up to 98% of adult insects and larvae die. The active ingredients of such aerosols paralyze fleas and ticks and destroy parasite eggs. The effect lasts for 4 weeks.
- Insects die from it at any stage of development. Does not cause resistance and is effective for up to 1.5 months. The product is used very economically.
- Executioner. It is produced in the form of a concentrate, easily diluted with water and used in household spray bottles. It is considered one of the most effective drugs.
- Reid. Contains safe insecticides. This manufacturer has odorless or scented aerosols. Economical, since one bottle of Reid is enough to treat about 50 m².
Even if the manufacturer claims that the spray is safe for people, precautions should be taken when treating the apartment.
It is advisable to use rubber gloves and a medical bandage (respirator) on the face. Clothing must have long sleeves to cover the entire body.
Allergy sufferers or people who experience attacks of bronchial asthma should refrain from this method of treating the premises from insects.
Solutions against parasites
To get rid of fleas in an apartment, the low-toxic product Butox 50 is popular. It contains a new generation insecticide, characterized by a low level of toxicity towards warm-blooded animals.
The drug is a yellow-gray emulsion with an oily structure. The product dissolves well in water and has a specific pungent odor.
To prepare a solution for pests, take 30 ml of the product and 10 liters of water. Treat all surfaces and crevices in the room with the product. If the surface is smooth, then this amount of product is enough for 200 m².
Furniture and walls can not only be sprayed, but also wiped with a sponge soaked in the solution.
After 10 days, the treatment is repeated to consolidate the result.
Folk remedies
Carpet fleas can be successfully eliminated using folk remedies. Such methods are suitable for opponents of aggressive chemistry.
Wormwood and tansy
Herbalists can tell you how to fight fleas. Wormwood is rich in bitterness, so it has a specific smell, which makes any parasites rush to leave the room. Wormwood is often complemented with tansy.
If possible, it is better to place bouquets of these plants around the house. Or you can prepare an infusion from dry herbs purchased at a pharmacy.
To prepare a natural insect repellent:
- take a jar, pour 2 tbsp into it. spoons of wormwood, 1 tbsp. a spoonful of tansy and add a few eucalyptus leaves to soften the smell of wormwood;
- pour 200 ml of boiling water into the blend;
- cover with a lid and leave for 12 hours.
The finished infusion is poured into a spray bottle and the room is treated, paying special attention to carpets, corners and baseboards. The effect will come faster if you pour the finished product into a steam cleaner.
Cold, steam and sun
When a housewife is interested in how to get rid of fleas in a carpet, she can pay attention to a method such as freezing or drying.
Blood-sucking insects cannot tolerate low temperatures, so if they are infested in winter, you can open the window wide and thoroughly ventilate the room at sub-zero temperatures.
It is enough to keep the window open for 2-3 hours, and all pests will die.
If parasites attack in the summer, then after treating the room, the carpets should be taken out into the sun so that they are exposed to ultraviolet rays. Thanks to this, both adults and larvae will die.
Another effective method is a steam cleaner. All carpet surfaces should be treated with a steam jet.
Baking soda
When a housewife is thinking about how to treat the carpet against fleas, then using baking soda may be a good option. Carpet fleas cannot tolerate it.
It is recommended to mix baking soda with salt.
Treat soft surfaces and carpets well, and after 12 hours vacuum thoroughly.
Pine shavings and herbs
The fight against carpet fleas must be comprehensive. It is not enough to simply clean the carpet.
Experienced housewives recommend preparing wormwood and coniferous tree shavings during the summer, filling a neat fabric bag with them and placing it at the entrance to the house.
This kind of “amulet” can protect your home from the penetration of blood-sucking parasites.
Essential oils for fleas in the apartment
Another option for treating carpets against fleas is the use of essential oils. The carpet must be thoroughly vacuumed first. To combat fleas, use oils of eucalyptus, lemon, orange, lavender, lemon balm, mint, chamomile, and rosemary.
The essential oil is first diluted in water, and special drops are applied to the carpet product.

Where do carpet fleas come from?
Most people mistakenly believe
that carpet
fleas appear with pets.
Animals actually carry not only insects, but also their larvae. But jumping bloodsuckers can settle in a house or apartment in other ways that have nothing to do with animals.
- Entrance;
- Ventilation (apartment building);
- Basement;
- Unclean neighbors;
- Infected rodents (rats).
Important. If home hygiene is poor, insects may begin to actively reproduce. And this applies not only to fleas
Small pests
cause discomfort and worsen a person’s quality of life.
Therefore they need to be eliminated.
Fighting them is not an easy task. They cleverly hide:
- under carpets;
- in the cracks of the floor;
- behind the baseboards;
- in furniture upholstery.
They lay larvae and eggs in these same places. Some time after the “birth”, immature individuals go out in search of food along with adult pests. Their bites are painful for both pets and humans
Regardless of their number, it is important to start treating the room on time.
Before treating your home, you need to pay attention to pets - use flea repellent (drops, spray, collar)
In order to prevent carpet pests from appearing at home, it is important and necessary to follow the rules. The house should be clean, with good air circulation, no dampness
Sometimes it is not forbidden to wash the floor with wormwood. Bathe pets using flea shampoo. It is also necessary to keep an eye on “strange” animals - do not let them into the apartment.
Appearance
Insects are extremely prolific. For full life activity, a temperature within 20 degrees Celsius, moderate humidity, absence of direct sunlight, and the presence of food are required. The carpet meets all these requirements.
On a note!
Females lay up to 14 eggs daily. Adults - approximately 2 months. The change of the new generation is happening very quickly.
Carpet fleas do not build nests; they lay eggs wherever they can. The female literally shoots them over a long distance. Miniature eggs about 0.5 mm are completely invisible to humans. The carpet larva develops within 2 weeks.
After 14 days, white worms 1 mm long appear. They live under the carpet, feed on insect excrement, particles of human and animal skin, rot, and mold. Within 20 days, several molts occur. At the last stage they pupate. Under favorable conditions, after 2 days a young, sexually mature individual is born.
How to remove carpet fleas from your home is the main issue that needs to be resolved as quickly as possible. You need to take action immediately after detecting pests.
Signs of fleas in the house
It is very easy to find out about the appearance of insects in the house. If your four-legged pet has become restless, itches all the time and is looking for a comfortable place, it means that there are uninvited guests in its fur that need to be taken out urgently. Bites on the human body in the bends of the arms and legs, on the stomach and sides also indicate the presence of parasites in the house.
You can identify fleas by using a light-colored cloth or paper left on the floor or carpet. You need to turn off the light for 20-30 minutes, and then turn it on sharply. If dark jumping dots are visible on a light surface, then fleas have appeared in the house.
It is necessary to combat parasites immediately after they are discovered, otherwise problems will grow exponentially along with the increase in the number of insects. Flea bites can itch, itch, and cause various infections and allergic reactions. Fleas are carriers of such dangerous diseases as typhus, hepatitis B and C, helminthiasis, anthrax and plague.
How can you clean a very dirty and old carpet, depending on the coating?
When removing stubborn dirt, it is worth considering the color and type of pile. This information will help you choose the right effective and gentle remedy.
Pile type
For long-haired hair, use a soap solution with good foam. It is applied only with a soft cloth. Hard brushes and sponges can ruin the appearance of the product. The most serious stains are additionally treated with a steam cleaner; it is also recommended to purchase special equipment.
There are much fewer problems with short pile. Heavily soiled carpets are cleaned with dry and liquid products. Folk recipes will not harm him either. This type of carpet dries quickly and accumulates less dust.
Color
For dark carpets it is not recommended to use starch, soda or powder. They leave behind ugly stains.
It's better to take:
- vinegar,
- turpentine,
- ammonia.
It is safer to clean white carpets with special products; you can also use:
- soda,
- salt,
- laundry soap.
But lemon juice will leave yellow marks.
Material: viscose, silk, synthetic
Before treating the carpet with any means, look at the label. Natural materials (wool or viscose) require careful handling.
From available means, it is best to use starch or soda; it is also worth purchasing high-quality chemicals for carpets.
Synthetic carpets are easier to care for. It is enough to vacuum them regularly. Stains must be removed while they are fresh, using any convenient means. This way there will be no unnecessary hassle with the carpet. It is better to dry clean silk carpets.
