How to wash a white shirt automatically and manually

How to wash a shirt by hand

Washing white shirts by hand is a snap. But first you need to remove dirt from the fabric and only then start washing. The most effective means for getting rid of stains of various origins are:

  • chemical stain removers;
  • laundry soap;
  • ammonia and glycerin, combined in equal proportions;
  • baking soda with lemon juice added.

The product is applied to a damp cloth at the site of contamination and then washed off with warm water. After removing the stains, you can proceed to the next step, namely washing. You need:

  • Prepare a bowl of water (the recommended temperature is indicated on the shirt label).
  • Add powder or liquid laundry detergent.
  • Leave the item in the soap solution for 30 minutes.
  • Lightly rub dirty areas.
  • Rinse the item.

After washing, clothes are usually rinsed in cold water and then sent to dry. It is better to wash the shirt by hand.
This method is safer for the fabric than using a washing machine.

Removing stains at home

We will share the secrets of removing heavy stains from white clothes. You can get rid of problem areas on the collar using laundry soap. But complex stains left by food require more effort.

If your shirt is stained with tea or coffee, then solutions of glycerin and ammonia or peroxide and ammonia will help against such stains.

You can remove grease stains using toothpaste, baking soda with lemon juice, or dish detergent. Before the automatic washing machine starts washing the shirt, you should first rub the stain with the solution.

After staining clothes with ink, rub the stain with alcohol.

Can shirts be washed in a washing machine?

Many people are interested in the question of whether it is possible to wash white clothes, including shirts, in a washing machine. It is possible if the product label does not indicate that this is contraindicated for a particular type of fabric.

To avoid causing damage to the product, you must follow certain rules, namely:

  • put white things in the drum separately from colored ones;
  • distribute products according to fabric type and recommended washing mode, which is indicated on the label;
  • select the powder in accordance with the characteristics of the material.

In addition to the above, the success of washing depends on the correct choice of temperature.

Preparatory stage

Let's start with:

  1. We distribute the shirts according to color scheme. Separately light, separately dark.
  2. We study the manufacturer's recommendations. He knows better how to handle the fabric, what temperature conditions to use so that the shirt does not fade or shrink. Is it possible to use aggressive compounds against dirt, how to iron the product.
  3. If stains are found, you need to start removing them. We clean colored ones with oxygen-releasing compounds, and white ones with bleach.
  4. To prevent the shirt from twisting, it is better to fasten all the buttons on it.

Important! Be sure to check the pockets before washing.

At what temperature should you wash shirts in a washing machine?

The correctly selected mode when washing a shirt in a washing machine is necessary to obtain the desired result. The recommended temperature is indicated on the product label, and if it is not preserved or washing information is missing, please note the following:

  • shirts made of linen and cotton can withstand temperatures up to 95 degrees;
  • synthetic fabrics are washed at 50 degrees;
  • for delicate materials the temperature should not exceed 40 degrees.

In addition to choosing the temperature setting, you also need to know how to properly wash shirts in a machine so as not to deform the product.

Machine washable

You can put shirts made of cotton, linen and mixed fabrics, which contain more than 50% natural fibers, into the machine.

It is recommended to wash shirts separately from other items, using detergents and fabric softeners for white linen.

Liquid powders and gels are less aggressive and are completely washed out without leaving streaks. It is advisable to add a little bleach to the powder receptacle.

The drum is loaded to half its volume. Washing is carried out according to the recommendations on the label, usually in manual or delicate mode at temperatures up to 40 degrees. It is advisable to turn off the spin or set the spin speed to minimum. The washed shirts are lightly wrung out by hand and dried.

How to properly wash shirts in a washing machine

Machine washing is not as safe for clothes as hand washing and contributes to rapid wear of the material. To reduce the negative impact, the following rules must be observed:

  • Choose the right detergents.
  • Before washing a white shirt, fasten all the buttons on the item. This will not only preserve the item, but also not damage the drum of the machine.
  • Select the “hand wash” mode for shirts.
  • Avoid spinning clothes.

Even after proper washing, the collar and cuffs do not always look perfect. To keep problem areas looking good, you need to use little tricks.

How to wash a shirt collar and cuffs

How to wash the collar of a white shirt and return the original whiteness to the cuffs, which get dirty the most? Before washing the item, problem areas are subjected to special treatment. You can choose one of these methods:

  • apply a solution of salt, water and ammonia, combined in equal proportions, to the collar and cuffs for 15–20 minutes;
  • treat contamination with hydrogen peroxide and a concentrated solution of laundry soap;
  • moisten problem areas of the fabric with vinegar for 10–15 minutes.

To keep your white clothes in perfect condition, it is not enough to know what and how to wash your shirt collar and cuffs. Often stains appear on clothes in the form of yellow spots in the armpits - these are traces of sweat and deodorant.

Special cases

Let's talk about special cases of stains on a shirt collar.

How to remove sweat from a collar

Let's consider the options:

  • Aspirin – dissolve 2-3 aspirin tablets in warm water and apply to the problem area. After 2 hours, rinse the collar and wash the entire shirt with soapy water.
  • Baking Soda – Make a paste of 7 tablespoons of baking soda and half a glass of water. Rub the paste into the sweaty cloth and leave for 1 hour. Next wash with powder.
  • Vinegar 9% – mix 50 grams of vinegar and 50 grams of water. Apply to collars with sweat stains for 15 minutes. Without rinsing, immediately put the clothes into the washing machine.
  • Salt + ammonia – dissolve 1 tablespoon of salt and ammonia in a glass of water. Pour the resulting liquid onto the sweat marks for a couple of hours. Machine washable without pre-rinsing.
  • Hydrogen peroxide – soak the shirt in warm water for 20 minutes. Then squeeze it out and pour peroxide onto the sweat stains. Wait a few seconds. Rub the fabric slightly during the effervescent reaction. Afterwards wash with soap.
  • Hydrogen peroxide + soda + dishwashing gel - add 1 part soda and gel to 2 parts peroxide. Stir until smooth. Apply to fabric using a brush. After 20-30 minutes, rinse the collar and evaluate the result. If necessary, repeat the procedure again.

How to remove grease from a collar

  1. Sprinkle the stains on the collar with a thick layer of salt for a quarter of an hour. Shake off any salt that has absorbed fat. If necessary, repeat the procedure. Machine wash with detergent.
  2. Natural fabrics (chiffon, linen, cotton, etc.) will benefit from talc and soda. Starch, tooth powder, and crushed chalk also quickly absorb fat.
  3. You can improve matters with the help of bread pulp. To do this, rub the grease stains on the collar with the crumb. Then you can start hand washing in any soap solution.

How to remove makeup stains

Store-bought products are the easiest method to remove cosmetic stains from clothing collars. Antipyatin, whom we have already discussed above, helps well in this case.

Antipyatnin is a laundry soap designed to remove particularly difficult stains. To get rid of stains with it, you should:

  • wet the soap with water;
  • soap the stain;
  • rub the stained area with a soapy piece of cloth;
  • to wash;
  • rinse with running water.

Other stain removers will help when adding product to the machine. Pre-soaking is also possible:

  • dilute the stain remover in water;
  • pour the solution onto the contaminated area;
  • wait half an hour;
  • wash in soapy water;
  • rinse thoroughly.

You can also use makeup remover. To do this, you just need to wipe the problem area with a disc soaked in makeup remover. Wipe from the edges of the stain to the center.

Dishwashing detergent is a universal product that can cope with any greasy stains, including cosmetic stains. Apply a little product to a stain moistened with water, lather it and leave for 20 minutes. Then rinse.

Removing old stains

The above products remove more recent contaminants. For old stains on the collar of a shirt or any other clothing, the following will be useful:

  • Ammonia - moisten a cotton swab and wipe the problem area. Then rinse and wash by hand or in a machine.
  • Glycerin - must be heated before application, and then the sequence of actions is similar to those after using ammonia.

How to remove yellow stains from a white shirt

It is difficult to remove yellow stains without using special products, and ordinary washing powder is not enough. There are several ways to restore the original whiteness of a product:

  1. Use a non-chlorine stain remover or bleach according to the instructions on the package. However, this method only removes fresh stains.
  2. Boil clothes with bleaching agents. This method is only suitable for natural and fairly dense fabrics. Lavsan, wool and silk are strictly prohibited from being subjected to such treatment.
  3. Use liquid soap, baking soda and salt. The components are taken in equal proportions and combined until a homogeneous mass is formed. The mixture should be quite thick. Then it is applied to the yellowed areas and left for 30 minutes.

After the stains have been removed, the product must be washed as usual and dried in fresh air.

How to wash a linen shirt

Linen is a popular type of fabric; items made from this material, if properly cared for, can last for many years.

Hand washing is more preferable for linen items than machine washing. When tidying up such a thing, you must follow the following rules:

  • use cleaning products without chlorine;
  • wash linen at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees;
  • use plenty of water when rinsing.

If you hand wash several items at once, choose a large container; the items should not “embarrass” each other. When using the machine, you should also not “compact” a bunch of clothes into the drum. After finishing washing, linen clothes should be dried in fresh air. It is better if the material is not exposed to direct sunlight, otherwise the product will dry out and it will be difficult to iron it.

How to dry a shirt after washing

To avoid deformation of the product after washing, it is necessary to dry the shirt properly. This is done in compliance with the following rules:

  • The washed item is dried by hanging it on hangers;
  • before sending clothes into the fresh air, fasten all the buttons;
  • the collar of the product must be straightened, otherwise it will be deformed and will not “lie” as it should;
  • cuffs are fastened and aligned;
  • All folds and creases in the fabric are straightened out.

If you follow these tips, you can independently and without much effort return the original whiteness and decent appearance of your favorite shirt.
