How to cook fresh frozen mackerel soup with millet
Why I love fish soup is also because it can be eaten on certain days of fasting. It saturates the body with satiety, strength and gastronomic pleasure. After all, during fasting the choice of foods consumed is very limited.
Ingredients:
- 2 small mackerel (fresh frozen);
- A little greenery to taste, 10 grams;
- 4 tablespoons of millet (you can change the amount depending on the desired thickness of the soup);
- 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil;
- Two potatoes;
- Salt and pepper to taste;
- 3 small tomatoes;
- A couple of small carrots;
- Bitter pepper taste;
- Large onion;
- A couple of laurel trees;
- One small or half a medium sweet pepper.
Preparation:
1. The fish must first be defrosted, separated from the head and tail. Gut everything unnecessary. If you want, you can immediately fillet it. But you can simply cut it into small pieces and cook it like that.
2.Pour the millet into a bowl and fill it to the top with boiling water. Leave for literally 5 minutes. This procedure will remove possible bitterness from the cereal. After this, you need to rinse it in cool water and dry it slightly.
3. Peel the onions and carrots. Cut the onion into small cubes, and the carrots can be grated. Fry them in hot oil until soft, 5 minutes.
4.Cut the pepper into small cubes. Tomatoes can be chopped in a blender. If you don't have one, you can simply grate them. Place these vegetables in the pan with the carrots and onions. Stir everything well, simmer on low power for 10 or 15 minutes, until cooked. If during the stewing process you feel that the mass is a little dry, you can add a little water.
5. Boil water in a saucepan. When it boils, add the cereal. After boiling, simmer for 15 minutes until done. Meanwhile, peel and dice the potatoes. Send it to the cooked millet, boil for another 15 minutes.
6.Add fried vegetables to the soup. Stir and cook for five minutes.
7.Now you can add fish, salt and ground pepper to your taste. Also add bay leaf. Cook for 25 minutes until the fish is done.
8.Before removing from the stove, finely chop the greens. Add it to the soup. Boil at low power for another 3 minutes. After this, you can serve. But if there is still time before lunch, it is better to let it brew under the lid for a few minutes.

Fish rice soup recipe with fresh mackerel
Another simple and hearty mackerel soup. You can also eat it during Lent. Prepared from simple, affordable ingredients. I am sharing this recipe with you.
Ingredients:
- 1-2 medium mackerel;
- Greens to taste;
- 2-3 potatoes, depending on size;
- 2 liters of water;
- Medium bulb;
- A tablespoon of lean oil;
- Small carrot;
- Salt to taste;
- A tablespoon of rice.
Preparation:
1.First, place a pan of water on the stove. In the meantime, while the water is boiling, you can prepare all the ingredients for the soup. Peel the potatoes and cut into small cubes. When the water boils, add the potatoes and boil for 15 minutes at low power.
2. Peel the carrots and cut into cubes. If desired, you can use a grater to grind it. Finely chop the peeled onion. Grease a frying pan with oil and add vegetables. Simmer them at low power until soft. But if you like a crispier roast, you can cook it until golden brown.
3.Add vegetables to boiled potatoes. Add salt to taste. Rinse the rice well and also add to the soup.
4. Thaw the mackerel, rinse, fillet or simply cut into small pieces. Send the fish to the boil, mix thoroughly, cook until done. Depending on the pieces, it cooks for 10-20 minutes, no more. If cooked for more than 20 minutes, the mackerel may become tasteless and rubbery.

Top tips
- Mackerel goes well with vegetables: broccoli, potatoes, beets, zucchini, carrots, eggplants, peppers, etc. In restaurants it is served with oranges, sour apples, cranberries, pineapple, and grapefruit. Another option to complement the dish is greens. Spinach, parsley, celery, and green onions give mackerel a special taste.
- Fish becomes more tender if before cooking it is marinated in lemon juice with the addition of seasonings. During cooking, you can add chopped tomatoes to the mackerel.
- Do you want to cook fresh frozen fish? Then defrost it in the refrigerator or in the room. Do not immerse the carcass in hot water - this will spoil the quality of the dish. When the mackerel is defrosted, start boiling it whole or in pieces. Place the fish in a pan, add water, you can add lemon and spices. After 15-20 minutes, check if the fish is ready. To do this, look at the color of the meat: if there is no pink tint, it means the mackerel is cooked. If you find this color, cook the fish for a few more minutes.
- When boiling the fish, add a little water so that it covers the mackerel. Otherwise the fish will be watery.
- If you want to cook a whole carcass without cutting it, immerse the fish in cold water and send it to cook. Cooking mackerel pieces? Then immerse them in already hot water. If you cut the fish into pieces, it will cook for up to 10 minutes.
- It is necessary to salt the mackerel at the end of cooking. Just don't cook it in boiling water to preserve the flavor.
- Want to make the mackerel aroma less intense? Then add the skins of the pickled cucumbers to the pan with the fish.
