How much does it cost to repair or replace a water supply solenoid valve?

Typically the valve cannot be repaired and will need to be replaced. RemBytTech specialists repair a part only if the cause of the problem is:

  • in a clogged valve inlet filter;
  • in blockages, limescale or rusty deposits on the internal components of the valve: the rod jams due to rust, the membrane does not open, the rod spring has lost its elasticity, etc. (for removable valves only).

In other cases, the node is replaced with a new one.

Price of work:

  • for replacing the intake valve - from 1500 rubles.
  • for repairs - from 1000 rubles.

Components needed for repairs or a new part are paid additionally. Or the technician installs a valve purchased by the client. The exact cost is calculated by a specialist after diagnosis and depends on the brand, model and type of machine (horizontal or top loading).

Here is an approximate price list for repairing and replacing the inlet valve, depending on the brand of the washing machine.

Disassembling the machine. It's enough to shoot the left side and that's it, but then it's a bit cramped, you need to have the hands of a surgeon)).

Disconnect and remove the panel with switches (so as not to interfere) Lift the top part up. I didn’t remove it completely - there was too much extra, factory installation, etc...

Disconnect, otherwise you cannot pull out the valve:

1. thick corrugated hose in the center. 2. plugs (2 pcs.) on the valves. 3. spring clamps (2 pcs) on the hoses (all motorists love them)) but it will not be easy to compress them. I used duckbill pliers. 4. remove 2 rubber water supply tubes.

Removing the double valve.

Checking valves. Measure the resistance of the electromagnet coils. I got a coil resistance of 3.72-3.77 kOhm. The windings are intact. (from 3 to 5 kOhm) If you blow into the holes, you can hear the characteristic gurgling sounds of passing air. Result: the valve does not hold. Replacement. Nope.

Disassembling valves 1. pry off the coil with a screwdriver.

2. pull out the valve. Unscrew the middle part. Unscrew by pushing with a screwdriver or “platypus”.

3. I greased everything lightly with silicone. I don't think it will get any worse.

4. collected. I checked it and it holds perfectly. You can blow and gently press with a blunt object (screwdriver) through the fitting to check the operation of the valve.

5. At the same time I disassembled, cleaned and lubricated the second working valve.

Assembly. Everything is in reverse order. I lubricated the fittings with silicone - it’s easier to put on the hoses.

1. valve 2. plugs 3. film - splash protection 4. thick hose 5. two water supply hoses 6. clamps 7. cover, control panel The valve - the gearbox at the inlet was also coated with silicone.

About the intake valve design

The filling valve of a washing machine or KEN (stands for Electromagnetic Filling Valve) is a membrane in the housing, which, upon a signal from the control module, opens and water enters the machine under the pressure of the water supply. The diaphragm mechanism is driven by an electromagnetic valve coil.

On modern washing machines, the part usually consists of two valves. The first is responsible for collecting water during the wash cycle, the second for rinsing. There are also CENs with 3 sections (pre-wash, wash, rinse). In “ancient” SMA models, the valve is usually single.

How to check functionality

An electromagnetic coil drives the rod. The performance of the node depends on its condition. You can check it in different ways.

When connecting a 220 V household current to the electrovalve terminals, a magnetic field is formed in the coil, which attracts the metal rod along with the membrane - characteristic single clicks will be heard. When disconnected, everything returns to its place and the water pipe is closed.

The coil is usually soldered to the body, therefore, it is easier to test the contacts with a multimeter. Depending on the design of the bypass valve, the device will show a resistance of 2-4 kOhm on the working coil.

Intake valves are single, double, triple. The coils in each ring separately.

Possible fill valve malfunctions

The electromagnetic coil is to blame for 85% of CEN failures . Its winding burns out, the membrane does not open when water is added at the command of the control unit, and the washing machine does not load.

Attention! Operating a washing machine with a faulty water valve coil can result in failure of the control board and, as a result, more expensive repairs. Therefore, we do not recommend using the machine in this case, even if it partially takes up water, but we advise you to immediately call a specialist.

More rarely, RemBytTech service engineers encounter the following malfunctions of the water supply valve, mainly in machines with a long service life.

  • The strainer at the CEN inlet is clogged. The filter is installed in front of the valve and protects it from particles contained in tap water. As you use the filter, it gradually becomes clogged, making it difficult for water to flow through. The washing machine begins to slowly fill with water and may display a flood error.
  • Membrane damage. It happens due to wear and tear, but most often, machines that are operated or stored in unheated rooms “suffer” from this. When the remaining moisture in the valve freezes, not only does the membrane rupture, sometimes the body of the valve itself cracks. A CEN with a damaged membrane will allow water to pass through, so the SM will fill even when it is turned off.
  • Blockages, rust and lime deposits on parts of the valve in contact with water. They can both prevent the machine from collecting water, and, conversely, lead to a situation where the SMA fills with water when it is turned off. First of all, the membrane and its mechanism—an elastic band, a plastic part, a spring, a rod—are vulnerable. For example, when the rod jams in the closed position due to rust, the membrane does not open and water does not flow into the machine.

How to replace the fill valve on a washing machine?

A fill valve is a device that automatically starts and stops the flow of water. Simply put, this device is like a regular faucet that we turn manually to supply water, and it does it automatically.

The valve works on the following principle: after activating the washing program, the control sends signals to the solenoid valve. The energized coil forms an electromagnetic field, with the help of which the water supply process occurs. After collecting the required amount of water, the voltage on the coil disappears and the valve stops functioning until the next liquid is collected.

There are several options for fill valves. Earlier we explained the simple principle of operation, but this is not always the case. Often water is supplied through several hoses at different intervals, rather than one at a time, and therefore the principle of operation can become more complicated.

Why is the solenoid valve rarely repairable?

The unit is rarely repaired for the following reasons:

  • Non-demountable design. KEN does not understand most modern washing machines. Manufacturers consider it a consumable item and, if it malfunctions, recommend replacing it completely.
  • No components. In older SMA models, the inlet valves are, as a rule, dismountable, but components for them are not sold (diaphragms, coils, rods, etc.). They can only be found when dismantling old washing machines.

Therefore, RemBytTech specialists perform only the following repair work:

  • cleaning the inlet valve strainer (this is easy to do on your own);
  • cleaning the valve itself, if it is dismountable and the malfunction is due to blockage, lime or rust deposits on the internal components of the part.

Other types of repairs are either physically impossible or economically infeasible.
