How to make slime at home from starch and other improvised materials? The nuances of caring for slime

Starch is a white crumbly powder obtained from grinding and special processing of corn, potatoes, rice, and other agricultural crops. This is a food product of organic origin. And therefore, slimes made from it are absolutely harmless in the absence of intolerance to the substance, which is rare.

The product tends to swell with moisture, so it is used as a thickener when creating slimes. Sometimes it is needed as an additional component to compact the mass. You can buy the powder at any grocery store for 15-20 rubles. per 200 gram package.

Why can't you make slime without glue?

If you did everything correctly, guessed the proportions and completed the task consistently, you should get a slime like soft plasticine or fluffy slime. The most common mistakes made are due to inconsistent addition of ingredients. Once again we draw your attention to the fact that first you need to pour shampoo into the container, then sunflower oil, then dye and only at the last stage starch. What to do if you couldn’t make a slime without glue?

  1. If the starch slime turns out to be too hard, try adding sunflower oil;
  2. If the handgam is very liquid, you need to add potato starch and stir until it thickens;
  3. If the “mucus” breaks, you need to add a little shampoo.

From starch and water

This handgam does not stretch, but has an interesting property. If the mass is squeezed in the palm of your hand and then released, it changes its consistency to a weaker, more fluid one.

What to make slime from

  • 10 parts starch,
  • 2-3 parts water.

How to make slime

  1. Place the white crumbly powder in a deep plate.

  2. Pour water into it.

  3. Stir with a spoon until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  4. When it becomes difficult to work with it, take the mass in your hands and knead it properly.

How to make fluffy slime

A required ingredient for making fluffy slime is shaving foam . Thanks to it, the mass turns out to be incredibly soft, but at the same time quite flexible.

To make slime in this design you need:

  1. PVA glue into the mixing container (a small 100 ml tube will be enough).
  2. Add about one glass of shaving foam there (the more it is, the more delicate the consistency of the slime turns out).
  3. After this, you will need at least a few drops of lens liquid , which contains boric acid. It is needed for the slime to thicken.
  4. Knead the mixture until it stops sticking to your hands.

What to do if you don’t have lens fluid and/or shaving foam on hand? The recipe will be slightly different.

Instead of foam, take dishwashing liquid and foam it with a sponge. It is necessary to obtain at least 2 cups of foamy substance. Add 2/3 cup of glue and dye (optional), and then mix it all until smooth.

After this, add a couple of drops of tetraborate, mix the mixture again, and then knead it with your hands.

From starch and sodium tetraborate

This slime should be matte, with a smooth surface, stretching well, but not to the point of film. He looks like fluffy.

Components

  • 3 tablespoons starch,
  • 4 spoons of water,
  • a few drops of acrylic paint,
  • 2-3 spoons of silicate glue,
  • 3-4 drops of sodium tetraborate.

How to cook at home

  1. Place the main component in a bowl and pour water into it.

  2. Mix everything until it becomes a non-Newtonian liquid.
  3. Touch it up.
  4. Add glue and stir.

  5. Pour in thickener.

  6. Knead the mixture with a spoon and hands.

How to make starch slime at home?

Making slime at home is not difficult, because to prepare it you need very few materials, the main thing is to observe all the proportions of the products used. Starch is a food product of organic origin , so slime with its addition will not harm the health of a child or adult, with the exception of individual intolerance to the substance.

Slime with this component is pleasant to the touch and is great for children's play. Below are some popular starch slime recipes.

Recipe with PVA glue

One of the simplest and safest recipes for making slime includes the following ingredients:

  • Water at room temperature – 1 glass.
  • Corn starch - 1 cup.
  • PVA glue – 25 ml.
  • Food coloring.
  • Dense small package.
  • Glitter (optional).

This method is not only safe, but also easy to prepare, so even a child can handle it.

  1. First, you need to pour the specified amount of starch into the bag and add water, stir and bring to a homogeneous, gruel-type consistency. At this stage, you can add dye, its quantity depends on what kind of slime you want to get in the end - bright or pale.
  2. Next, you need to pour glue into the bag, close it tightly and stir the mixture thoroughly, kneading it with your hands. If desired, you can add glitter to the bag.
  3. If there is excess liquid in the bag, you can drain it and take out the finished slime.

The glue must be used fresh, otherwise there is a risk of getting a low-quality slime. Moreover, it will not be possible to fix such a toy; you will have to remake it again using fresh glue.

With water

To prepare slime in this way you will need starch and water. Although the consistency of this slime differs from the store-bought one, it does not contain chemical components, which makes it safe for small children.

For this recipe you will need the most affordable products:

  • Potato starch – 150 gr.
  • Cold water – 80-100 ml.
  • Food coloring.
  1. The starch should be poured into a previously prepared container and dye should be added to it.
  2. Next, pour water into the container in 3 additions, stirring with a spoon each time. At first the mixture will turn out runny, but there is no need to add starch at this stage, the mixture will gradually thicken and become viscous.
  3. When the mass reaches the consistency of jelly, you can add a little starch to it and knead it like dough.

If you want to make a colored slime, you can paint the resulting mixture with any means at hand:

  • gouache;
  • acrylic or watercolor paints;
  • brilliant green;
  • felt-tip pen ink.

The slime is ready for use, although it cannot be called durable, it will last 2-3 days.

It is worth noting that if the toy is made for a small child who may accidentally swallow a particle of it, food coloring must be used.

The finished mass should flow through your fingers and harden upon impact.

With water and PVA glue

Here's how to make potato starch slime, which requires the following ingredients:

  • Potato starch – 150 gr.
  • Water – 80 ml.
  • PVA glue – 1 spoon.
  • Dye and decorations.
  1. In a deep bowl, mix starch and water until the consistency of the mixture reaches the thickness of sour cream.
  2. Next, you need to gradually add dye to the resulting solution; you can use food-grade, dry, or any other type.
  3. After thoroughly stirring the resulting mass, add glue in small portions.
  4. After this, you need to put on gloves, remove the slime from the container and knead it with your hands.

This slime can stain your hands and the surface, so it’s better to put something on the table so as not to spoil it.

If the slime is not thick and viscous enough, you can add a little glue to it. To make it more elastic and less sticky, it is recommended to add a couple of drops of vegetable or essential oil to the slime.

Sometimes liquid starch is used instead of dry starch. It is intended for washing clothes, but it may well be suitable as a thickener. But the method of preparing slime with liquid starch is slightly different from the previous one. In this case, a plastic bag is used as a mixing container.

For convenience, it is better to take a zip bag:

  1. Pour 70 ml of starch into the bag.
  2. Add a couple of drops of dye.
  3. Pour 25 ml of PVA glue into the bag.
  4. Tie or lock the bag and mix well. The mixture should separate into a small curd and liquid.
  5. The clot is a ready-made slime. The remaining liquid must be drained and the clot blotted with a napkin, removing excess moisture.

If the resulting slime turns out to be too sticky, it means that more glue was added than necessary. If the slime crumbles or is too hard, then next time you need to add less starch.

With shaving foam

This slime can be compared in structure to butter slime, that is, oil slime; it turns out dense and smears well, reminiscent of butter.

  • Starch – 10 gr.
  • Shaving foam – 15 g.
  • PVA glue – 10 g.
  • Decorations.
  1. First, in a deep bowl, you need to mix the starch and glue until you get a mass with the consistency of sour cream.
  2. If the mixture is too thick, you can add a little water to it.
  3. The required amount of shaving foam is squeezed into a separate container, and the resulting mixture is poured on top.
  4. All ingredients are mixed until smooth, and decorations are added if desired.
  5. Next, you need to knead the slime with your hands and use it for its intended purpose.

With hair balm

At home, you can make simple slime from just two ingredients: starch and hair balm. This slime will be soft and pleasant to play with. The main steps in making homemade slime is the correct selection of quality ingredients:

  1. High-quality starch should be white or cream-colored and have a crumbly structure. You definitely need to pay attention to its expiration date. It is advisable to use corn starch.
  2. You should also be careful when choosing a balm. An expired product will not make good slime. It is better to use a thick balm.
  3. For better ductility of the toy, you can add sodium tetraborate.

From sodium tetraborate

Slime with the addition of starch and sodium tetraborate turns out matte, has good ductility and looks like fluffy.

To make this toy you will need:

  • Starch - 3 tbsp. spoons.
  • Water – 4 tbsp. spoons.
  • Silicate glue – 2-3 tbsp. spoons.
  • Sodium tetraborate – 3-4 drops.
  • Acrylic paint - a few drops.
  1. Pour the starch into a bowl and pour water into it.
  2. These ingredients are mixed until smooth, then dye and glue are added, and the mass must be thoroughly mixed.
  3. Pour a few drops of thickener into the resulting mixture and knead first with a spoon and then with your hands.

With soda

This slime should be used carefully after preparation, as it contains some ingredients of synthetic origin, it is better to give it to children under adult supervision. To create soda slime you will need:

  • Starch – 7-8 tablespoons.
  • Soda – 1 spoon.
  • Shampoo – 3 spoons.
  • Dishwashing liquid – 3 spoons.
  • Dye (optional).
  1. In one bowl, mix shampoo, dishwashing liquid and baking soda.
  2. Shake the mixture until smooth.
  3. Next, gradually add starch, followed by dye.
  4. When the texture of the mixture becomes sticky and compacted, you need to knead it thoroughly with your hands.

You can create fancy shapes and objects from this slime.

With shampoo

The peculiarity of slime made in this way is that it must be stored in the refrigerator and not allowed to come into contact with water. You should play with it carefully, avoiding dirt and dust from getting into it. Otherwise, the toy will be damaged, since it is impossible to wash it. Making slime this way is quite simple.

You only need two ingredients:

  • shampoo;
  • liquid soap (you can use shower gel).

By adding shampoo when making slime, you can get a fragrant and elastic toy that will feel like kinetic sand to the touch.

  1. In order to prepare this slime, you need to pour a little shampoo or liquid soap into a deep plate, add a little water and stir until bubbles appear. At this stage, you can add a small amount of dye to give the slime some color.
  2. Next, you need to add starch little by little until you get a mass of the desired thickness. If the finished slime crumbles, you can add a little hand cream or oil to it.

With careful use and proper storage, the toy will last for about one month.

We'll tell you how to make slime from glue and starch, because such a toy is more durable and practical. To add color, use food coloring - it is safe for children. Gouache is allowed if older children play and do not put the slime in their mouth.

For this slime you need liquid starch. If it is not available, dilute the powder with water in a ratio of 1:2. When choosing glue, pay attention to the date. Only fresh will do.

To avoid getting your hands dirty when making slime and to mix the ingredients thoroughly, use durable resealable bags.

Drop a few drops of paint into a bag or bowl (you don’t need a lot so that it doesn’t stay on your hands while playing). Add 70 ml of starch and 25 ml of PVA glue.

Mix the ingredients by turning the bag (or with a spoon) until a lump forms. Drain off the excess water and blot the toy with a napkin. The slime is ready, the child can play and develop fine motor skills.

Components

  • 5-6 tablespoons of starch,
  • 1 spoon of shampoo,
  • 1 spoon of shaving foam.

How to cook it yourself

  1. Place the shampoo in a bowl and add shaving foam to it.

How to make slime from sodium tetraborate, PVA glue and shampoo

In this recipe, glue serves as the base, and shampoo complements it. The toy turns out soft, slightly crunchy due to small air bubbles.

For anti-stress you will need:

  • PVA glue or transparent;
  • shampoo of any brand;
  • sodium tetraborate;
  • hand cream (optional).

Let's start mixing the slime:

If you want to get a large handgam, you can safely pour the entire bottle of glue into the dish.

Now let's work with the texture of the future slime. Add 1-2 tablespoons of shampoo and a little cream. After this, you need to stir the mass well and even beat it a little to form a foam that will crunch.

The final touch is to thicken our mixture. We use ordinary pharmaceutical tetraborate, adding it drop by drop and mixing the contents of the container.

This slime needs to be kneaded thoroughly with your hands so that it stops leaving marks on them. Only after this will he be ready to play.

If you don't like air bubbles in the toy, you can leave it in a closed container for a couple of days. During this time, all the foam will come out of the slime, although it will come back the next time you play.

The slime turns out to be white or colorless, so it can be colored with any pigments, glitter or beads can be added. You can experiment with smells by including aromatic oils in the toy.

From starch and flour

The slime according to this recipe does not stick to the skin, it is crunchy. It also stretches if you do it slowly. If the composition is too tight, you can soften the toy with any of the liquid components. If any of them is missing, it is permissible to increase the amount of another component. There should be less flour than the second crumbly ingredient.

Proven recipe

  3. Add shaving gel and baby skin care oil to these ingredients.
  4. Put the paint there and mix everything until smooth.

  5. Add flour and starch.

  6. Knead with a spoon until thick.

  7. Finish the toy with your hands, adding starch if necessary.

  8. Leave the slime alone on the table for 5 minutes.

The process of creating slime

Is it possible to make slime without a thickener?

Sodium tetraborate is not used in all recipes. Starch itself is an excellent thickener.

What to do if the slime is too crumbly or thick

Often, if the proportions are not respected, the slime turns out to be too thick or crumbly. There is no reason to be upset. You just need to add more liquid component. This should be done gradually so as not to overdo it.

From starch and hydrogen peroxide

This is a hand gum recipe. It turns out soft and fluffy, but sticks a little to the skin. As time passes, the toy will become drier. It can be revived by adding water.

What to make slime from

  • 5 tbsp. l. starch,
  • 3 tbsp. l. water,
  • 2 tbsp. l. PVA glue,
  • a few grains of powder dye,
  • 1 tsp. hydrogen peroxide.

How to make slime at home

Take a bowl, pour out a bottle of glitter glue and add 0.2 cups of water. Mix. Add dye if the color is not bright enough. Add 0.5 cups of liquid starch. We interfere.

It is necessary to stir the slime until the toy acquires a jelly-like structure. Set aside the stirrer and continue kneading with your hands for another 5 minutes. The slime you make will last up to 2 weeks if you store it in an airtight container.

From starch and hair balm

Thanks to the creamy consistency of the hair product, the toy is soft and flexible, stretches, but does not smear your hands. The volumes of the components can be adjusted if the mass seems too tight or liquid.

Ingredients for slime

  • 3 tbsp. l. starch,
  • 1 tbsp. l. creamy hair balm,
  • some powder paint.

Method of making slime

  1. Mix hair conditioner and dye in a container.

  2. Supplement them with the main component.
  3. Knead the mixture first with a spatula, then with your hands.

From starch and soda

This recipe produces a slime similar to butter slime. It is slightly sticky, but soft, and the soda gives the mass an airiness. You should pull the toy slowly, otherwise it will tear.

Components

  • 7-8 spoons of the main component,
  • 3 spoons of dishwashing liquid,
  • 3 spoons of shampoo,
  • 1 spoon of soda.

Making slime at home

  1. Place dishwashing gel in a cup.
  2. Add shampoo to it.

  3. Add baking soda and stir until smooth.

  4. Gradually add the main ingredient, kneading the mixture until thick.

  5. When the texture is still sticky, but already compacted, knead the almost finished toy with your hands.

Properties, features, application

Slime is a toy that changes its shape and is capable of sticking or springing from surfaces. It is made from jelly-like materials. Over time, such a toy loses its properties. It dries in the air, so it is usually stored in a closed plastic box. In summer, the slime can be kept in the refrigerator, as the heat also dries out the toy.

You can make slime yourself from scrap materials. Potato starch, dishwashing detergent, shaving foam, and hair balm are suitable for this.

From potato starch

You can make figures from this soft and light slime, as it holds its shape well. But if you adjust the amount of liquid components, the composition will become more fluid, similar to butter slime.

Ingredients for slime

  • 5-6 spoons of potato starch,
  • 1 spoon of vegetable oil,
  • a small amount of any pigment,
  • 1 spoon of shampoo.

How to make at home

  1. Pour the oil into a bowl with a wide bottom.

  2. Add shampoo to it.

  3. Color the liquid and stir.

  4. Pour in the main ingredient little by little, working it in with a spatula.

Watch this video on how to make slime from potato starch:

From starch and toothpaste

In this recipe the number of components is very arbitrary. If the mixture turns out to be too liquid, you need to add more starch. If the composition is too hard, soften it with toothpaste or water. The slime should come out dense, but quite plastic, with a pleasant smell and soft texture.

Simple recipe

  • 5 tbsp. l. starch,
  • 2 tbsp. l. toothpaste,
  • 1 tsp. water,
  • 1 tsp. shaving foam.

Method of making slime

  1. Place the dry ingredient in a bowl.

  2. Squeeze the toothpaste in there and mix.

  3. While still working with the spoon, pour in the water.

  4. Add foam and knead everything until thick.

With boric acid

The activator in this recipe does not work with every glue, so it is important to add a good stationery product to the composition. Starch will help the mass keep its shape, just don’t sprinkle it in excess. It makes no difference whether you use potato or corn.

Components

  • 85 ml PVA glue,
  • 2 tbsp. l. office glue,
  • 1 tbsp. l. starch,
  • 1-2 drops of fatty cream,
  • 3-4 tbsp. l. shaving foam,
  • 2-3 drops of paint,
  • 2-3 tsp. boric acid.

How to make slime at home

  1. The glue must be placed in a bowl and supplemented with cream.

  2. The next ingredient is shaving foam.
  3. Now it needs to be made as uniform as possible.

  4. Then the liquid is tinted.

  5. Another important ingredient is stationery glue, which will then make it possible to easily thicken the base.

  6. Next, it's time to add boric acid.

  7. The base must be stirred with a spatula until it stabilizes.

  8. Knead the mass with your hands for a while.

  9. The last component left is starch.

  10. The slime needs to be folded in half and kneaded until smooth.

From corn starch

A slime made correctly according to this recipe should be soft, stretchy, and slowly fall off when you let it go down. The toy is pleasant to the touch and looks like a marshmallow. A corn product is used here because it swells less in soapy liquid than potato slime, and the slime is more tender.

What to make slime from

● about 150 g corn starch,
● 100 ml dishwashing detergent.

How to cook it yourself

  1. Pour the detergent into a cup.
  2. Gradually pour in the main component, not forgetting to knead the mass.

  3. Knead it with your hands, adding dishwashing gel if necessary.

Proven version from "Fairy"

Slime using starch is prepared from any dishwashing detergent in the form of a gel. But "Fairy" gives good results. The toy is soft and keeps its shape. Suitable for children's crafts.

Pour potato starch (2 heaped tablespoons) into a cup and distribute evenly in the lower part. Add detergent little by little.

To understand what consistency of slime is suitable for your purposes, add dishwashing liquid gradually. Add 1 tbsp. spoon and stir. If the slime turns out thick, add more Fairy.

There is no dye used in the recipe since the detergent is already tinted. Choose the one that you particularly like. The same slime can be made from shower gel, which can easily replace dishwashing liquid.

From starch and dry toilet soap

This is a way to create an anti-stress toy that can be crushed and used for sculpting figures. It easily changes shape under the influence of fingers, but holds it well.

What is needed for slime

  • 17-20 tablespoons of any starch,
  • 100 ml warm water,
  • half a bar of dry toilet soap,
  • a few drops of acrylic dye.

How to make at home

  1. Pour the water into a bowl and cut the soap into it.

  2. Stir until the soap crumbs dissolve.
  3. Tint the mass.

  4. Slowly add the main ingredient, stirring with a spatula.

  5. Knead with your hands, adding white powder if necessary.

Rainbow toy for children

Now we’ll teach you how to make slime at home that looks like a rainbow. The given recipe is designed for 4 colors, but the number of tones can be increased.

The peculiarity of rainbow slime made from water and glue is that liquid starch is needed to obtain a viscous consistency. To add color, you can use food coloring (safer) or liquid paint (brighter).

Mix water at room temperature with glue (“Elmera” or PVA) in a 1:1 ratio. Divide the mixture evenly into 4 bowls. Add 1 color dye to each portion and mix until smooth.

Pour 0.25 cups of liquid starch into each portion and stir until the slime becomes viscous. You will have to stir for 2-5 minutes. We connect all the parts and enjoy the rainbow in our hands.
