Currently, it is possible to get the same tasty and healthy porridge if you cook barley in a slow cooker. Moreover, there are a lot of recipes, among them you can easily find the very favorite taste of childhood.
Barley porridge with mushrooms in a slow cooker

Choosing the right ingredients
- For this dish, use any mushrooms, but I always use champignons, because this type of plant is very easy and quick to prepare and has an excellent taste. Mushrooms in combination with porridge are not lost, but, on the contrary, complement it with a unique taste and aroma.
- When choosing mushrooms, pay attention to their appearance. Dark spots on the surface indicate that it is not fresh. It is not worth spending your money and time on such a product.
- If you take very small mushrooms, then you will only need to cut them in half or leave them whole. So they will look very beautiful in porridge.
Step by step recipe
- Rinse 1.5 cups of pearl barley and add hot water while preparing the vegetables.
- Cut 1 onion into half rings and 1 carrot into small strips.
- Wash 300 g of champignons and cut into large pieces (1 mushroom into 6 parts).
- Set the multicooker to “Roast” mode for 15 minutes.
- Pour 2 tbsp. l. vegetable oil in a bowl and fry the onion for 2 minutes.
- Now we can add carrots and mushrooms. Fry covered for 5 minutes.
- Open the lid, add 2 pinches of salt and fry without a lid for the remaining time. After this, remove the vegetables from the equipment.
- The pearl barley should be washed again and poured into the slow cooker along with 1 tsp. salt and pour 500 g of warm water. Set the “Porridge” mode for 40 minutes.
- 15 minutes before the end of cooking, add fried vegetables to the porridge, stir and cook until the end of time.
- Chop 1 bunch of dill and sprinkle it over the finished porridge.

Ingredients: 620-690 g of chicken (you can use legs, thighs, wings), 2 multi-cups of pearl barley, 5 multi-cups of filtered water, a large spoon of refined oil, 2-3 onions, 2 carrots, a pinch of spices for pilaf, table salt to taste .
- The chicken is cut into large portions. The meat can be immediately placed in the bowl of the device, sprinkled with salt, poured with refined oil and fried in the baking program on all sides.
- While the chicken is cooking, you can do the vegetables. The onion is cut into thin rings or half rings. The carrots are cut into thin slices. You can simply grate it on a coarse grater.
- As soon as the meat is ready, add chopped vegetables to it. You need to wait until the onions and carrots are slightly browned.
- All that remains is to pour washed barley, salt, and special seasonings for pilaf on top of all the prepared products.
- The contents of the bowl are filled with hot boiled water.
- The “smart pan” is switched to the “Pilaf” mode and turned on for 60-65 minutes.
The finished dish is left to heat for about half an hour.
Recipe for barley with meat in a slow cooker
Pearl barley with meat in a slow cooker is very tender, aromatic and tasty. The main thing is that it is very convenient to prepare. For cooking, you can use any meat: pork, beef, veal, rabbit, turkey and others. It is important that the meat does not require preliminary preparation, even if it is quite tough. In multi-pot conditions it will cook perfectly well.
Classic recipe for barley with meat
Ingredients:
- Meat fillet – 400 g;
- 2 pieces of onion and carrot for frying;
- Cereals – 2 multi-cups;
- Water, meat or vegetable broth - 6 multi-cups;
- Favorite seasonings.
The meat is cut into small pieces and fried directly in the bowl using the “frying”, “quick cooking” or “baking” mode for 10-15 minutes. The vegetables are chopped and fried along with the meat for another 10 minutes.
The soaked cereal is poured into the fryer, filled with water or broth, closed with a lid and brought to readiness in the “pilaf” or “rice” mode. It makes an amazing dish for a winter dinner.
How to cook pearl barley in a slow cooker - a summer option: in the warm season, you can add any available vegetables to the porridge. Very tasty pearl barley is made with tomatoes, bell peppers and zucchini. All this is stewed together with the meat, then the cereal is poured in and cooked as usual. At the same time, the porridge turns out to be very rich and aromatic.
With mushrooms
Ingredients: 1 multi-bowl pearl barley, 320 g fresh champignons, onion, salt, dry garlic, pepper.
- Onion cubes and thin slices of champignons are fried in the baking program.
- Pearl barley, pre-soaked in cold water, is placed on top of the fried vegetables and mushrooms.
- The dish will be cooked in a program designed to cook the rice until it is finished.
You can decorate the treat with fresh herbs.
With vegetables
Ingredients: 1 multi-bowl pearl barley, large eggplant, tomato, bell pepper, 3-4 garlic cloves, table salt to taste.
- The cereal is first filled with cold water and left overnight.
- All vegetables are thoroughly washed, peeled if necessary and finely chopped. Eggplant cubes are covered with salt and left for 12-14 minutes to release the bitterness. Next, the vegetable slices are washed well with cold water.
- In the frying mode, all the chopped vegetables are cooked together in the bowl of the device. Finely chopped garlic is also added to them.
- Prepared cereal is laid out on top of the vegetables.
- The contents of the container are filled with hot water. All that remains is to add salt and mix all the ingredients.
In the “Pilaf” program, the dish will be cooked for 60-65 minutes.
How to prepare healthy pearl barley porridge for breakfast
A proper breakfast is very important for a child; it gives energy for the whole day and gives strength. Pearl barley porridge with milk prepared in the Polaris multicooker is an ideal option for refreshing yourself in the morning.
