Hercules - what kind of porridge is this, a little history

Oats have been cultivated and eaten for quite some time. This is an unpretentious crop that can grow in the most unfavorable conditions.

Whole grain porridge is cooked for a long time, at least an hour, with mandatory preliminary soaking and subsequent boiling. Initially, this dish was more of a thick stew with meat broth.

In the middle of the 19th century, thanks to the general development of technology, a method of pre-processing oats appeared. It was mechanically cleaned and flattened.

The grains processed in this way turned into flakes, they cooked faster and were better absorbed by the body. From that time on, the victorious procession of oatmeal began.

The origin story of the name “Hercules” is interesting. This is the name of a semi-finished product produced in Soviet times in the USSR - steamed, very thin oat flakes.

They prepared very quickly, literally in 10 minutes, and on the box there was a picture of a strong, healthy child.

This porridge was positioned as an ideal replacement for semolina for baby food. It was claimed that it gives strength and promotes rapid growth of a healthy baby.

The adults also tried this wonderful breakfast. Due to the speed of preparation, it has become very popular for the whole family.

Over time, the Hercules trademark ceased to be a brand name and became the name of all oat or multigrain cereals. The only thing that remains true is the statement about the benefits and excellent taste of this porridge.

The secret of making delicious oatmeal porridge with milk

Doctors have long known the benefits of cereal porridge. Oatmeal is rich in vitamins and fiber.

This product is slowly broken down in the small intestine, so the feeling of fullness remains for a long time. Hercules is considered a dietary dish, despite its considerable calorie content and high carbohydrate content.

For breakfast, it is better to cook oatmeal with milk, this way you will get healthy calcium, and the dish itself will be much tastier. You can add brown sugar or honey as a sweetener.

The British, great connoisseurs of this type of breakfast, top the finished porridge with sweet condensed milk or syrup. Additional flavors will be added by cinnamon and vanilla, combined with fresh fruits.

For cooking, choose the finest ground rolled oats, this guarantees fast cooking time. If whole cow's milk seems too fatty to you, dilute it with boiled water. It won't affect the taste.

And be sure to add butter - a little natural fat in the morning will not harm your figure at all.

For one serving of oatmeal porridge you will need:

  • Instant oat flakes “Hercules” – 3 tbsp. l.;
  • Whole cow's milk – 100 ml;
  • Boiled purified water – 100 ml;
  • A pinch of salt;
  • Cow butter – 5 g;
  • Honey, brown sugar, condensed milk or syrup - optional, to sweeten the finished porridge.

  • Take a small heavy-bottomed pan or ladle for boiling milk, add milk and water and boil it. Make sure that the milk does not “run away”, this will lead not only to an unpleasant odor, but also to a significant decrease in liquid, you will have to do everything again;
  • Pour the flakes into boiling milk, add salt, you can add a teaspoon of sugar, cook, stirring for 7-10 minutes;
  • Make sure that foam from milk and oatmeal does not rise above the saucepan; to avoid this, simply run a spoon over the surface;
  • When the rolled oats are completely swollen, remove the pan from the stove, add a piece of butter, cover with a lid and let stand for a couple of minutes;
  • Serve in a deep plate, garnish with fresh fruits or berries, and sweeten to your taste.

Oatmeal recipe with milk

Despite the pleasant taste of regular oatmeal, dairy oatmeal is even more popular. Even children who are known for being picky rarely refuse it. Oatmeal with milk turns out tender, soft, airy - very tasty.

How to cook this porridge correctly? The recipe is similar to the one used to cook regular oatmeal - but still, we’ll tell you in more detail about preparing milk porridge.

  • First you need to decide on the amount of cereal and milk. The already familiar proportion is observed here - for one glass of cereal there are two glasses of liquid.
  • Milk is poured into a saucepan and placed over high heat. Dry or pre-soaked oatmeal can be poured into milk immediately or after boiling - but to maximize the preservation of beneficial properties, it is better to pour the cereal before the milk has had time to boil.
  • After boiling, reduce the heat to low. With constant stirring, the porridge cooks until done for 15 - 20 minutes - periodically, carefully taste it with a spoon. After the porridge is completely cooked, you can remove it from the heat, then hold it for a while under the closed lid - in a few minutes the porridge will steam, become more fragrant, softer, more tender.

Oatmeal with milk requires more than just salt. It is worth sweetening the porridge - as a rule, very little salt is added, but two to four tablespoons of sugar are added. When is the best time to do this? Some people prefer to add salt and sugar before the milk boils, others - after turning off the heat, when the finished porridge is left to steam under the lid. However, it is best to salt and sweeten the porridge a couple of minutes before turning it off - the salt and sugar will be able to completely dissolve, while being evenly distributed throughout the porridge.

As in the previous case, milk oatmeal can be flavored with a piece of butter, or it can be served in its pure form - it depends on personal preferences and the calorie requirements of the dish.

Recipe for rolled oatmeal porridge with dried fruits in a slow cooker - quick and easy

A multicooker in a modern kitchen is no longer exotic. But, unfortunately, not many people use the full potential of this useful unit.

But with its help, breakfast is practically prepared by itself, you just need to pour in the cereal, pour in the liquid and turn on the delayed start.

However, when cooking rolled oats in a slow cooker, there are some nuances that must be observed to ensure that the food turns out not only tasty, but also safe:

  • Boil milk and water in advance, because in this unit they only heat up, but are not disinfected. Alternatively, you can use UHT products and bottled water;
  • The cooking proportions in a slow cooker are somewhat different from those in a saucepan. The cereal spends more time in contact with liquid and swells more; if you need a viscous porridge, then take 4 times more milk than oatmeal;
  • Circle the rim of the bowl with a piece of butter, this will stop the “escaping milk”;
  • Porridge with milk strongly absorbs odors - before cooking, thoroughly wash not only the bowl, but also the lid of the multicooker.

To prepare you will need:

  • Hercules flakes - 1 multi-cup;
  • Whole boiled cow's milk – 4 multi-cups;
  • Raisins and dried apricots – 50 g each;
  • Brown or white sugar – 15-20 g;
  • Salt – 0.5 tsp.

Let's start cooking:

  • Boil the milk;
  • Raisins and dried apricots should be washed and soaked in boiling water, then the dried apricots should be cut into strips;
  • Pour cereal, sugar and salt into the multicooker bowl, stir;
  • Add dried fruits to the cereal;
  • Fill with milk, turn on the “porridge” or “pilaf” mode;
  • Serve with a piece of butter.

In a slow cooker

Preparation:

  1. Grease the bowl of the device with butter or vegetable oil.
  2. To get a moderately thick porridge, take 200–250 ml of water or milk per 100 g of rolled oats. In a closed space, the liquid hardly evaporates, so less is required.
  3. Select the “porridge”, “multi-cook” or “milk porridge” mode and set the timer.
  4. After the signal, check the dish for readiness.
  5. Add butter, fruits, and nuts to taste to the prepared oatmeal.

In a slow cooker you can prepare the most delicate oatmeal porridge, reminiscent of pudding in consistency.

Recipe:

  1. Combine cereal and milk in a ratio of 1:4.
  2. Select the “porridge” program.
  3. Check the dish after 45-65 minutes. The flakes should be completely cooked, forming a homogeneous mixture.

Once cooled, season the pudding with jam, marmalade or fruit. The dish can be used as a healthy, filling snack at work or on the road.

In a multicooker, cook oatmeal porridge in the “porridge”, “milk porridge” or “multi-cook” mode.

Tips for preparing oatmeal porridge

Don't confuse flakes with whole oatmeal. Hercules cooks quite quickly; it does not need to be washed or soaked.

Carefully monitor the shelf life and storage conditions of this useful product. If there are bugs or mold in the cereal, throw it away, don’t risk your health.

Very tasty oatmeal porridge is made with meat broth. If you add pieces of meat to it, you get a complete lunch.

I prefer rolled oatmeal porridge with water; in my opinion, prepared this way, it is better absorbed. My cooking method: I pour the flakes into an airtight container, pour in freshly boiled water so that there is about a centimeter more water than the flakes, and close the container. After 3-4 minutes, I open the container again - by this time the flakes are swelling and I add more water, about 2-3 centimeters above the level of the flakes, add a little salt and sugar to taste, mix it all and close the container again. After 10 minutes the porridge is ready. I add fresh berries to it (strawberries or raspberries), and if there are no fresh ones, then syrup or jam.

  • banana – 0.5 pcs.;
  • apple – 1 small or 0.5 large;

  6. Add honey and butter, mix.
  7. Decorate the porridge with banana slices and you are ready to try.

Option 2: Quick recipe for oatmeal porridge with milk

In stores you can buy not only simple flakes, but also instant ones. It is with them that we will prepare the next option.

Ingredients:

  • a glass of instant Hercules cereal;
  • two to three tablespoons of white sugar;
  • two glasses of hot milk;
  • vanilla to taste.

How to quickly cook oatmeal porridge with milk

In a small saucepan, bring fresh milk to a strong boil. At the same time, make sure that it does not “run away.”

Now pour the instant cereal into a clean, dry bowl. Cover them with sugar and add just a little vanilla for flavor.

Pour hot milk thinly on top, distributing evenly. Stir in a circle and immediately cover with a lid so that there is no gap left.

Infuse the oatmeal porridge in milk for five minutes. Then remove the lid, stir breakfast and serve with a slice of bran bread.

Although these flakes soften fairly quickly in hot milk, make sure they are done before serving. If you think the porridge is not ready, microwave it for a couple of minutes.

Option 3: Hercules porridge with dried fruits and milk

Dried fruits are ideal for oatmeal porridge, which is why in the third recipe we decided to offer raisins, prunes and dried apricots as additional ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • a full glass of rolled oats;
  • six pieces of dried apricots;
  • a quarter cup of raisins;
  • three prunes;
  • 595 grams of fresh milk;
  • a tablespoon of sugar;
  • butter into porridge.

How to cook

Wash all dried fruits with the soft side of a sponge in warm water. Blot away excess moisture with paper towels.

Chop dried apricots and prunes into small pieces. Mix together with raisins in a dry bowl.

Bring fresh milk to a boil over high heat. Remove the thin film and immediately add a full spoon of sugar.

Reduce the burner temperature to minimum. Add rolled oats flakes. Stir the contents of the saucepan with light movements throughout the entire process.

Cook oatmeal porridge in milk for eight to ten minutes, after which add all the chopped dried fruits. Add oil.

Now turn off the fire. Stir and cover tightly. Let it brew, which will take about a quarter of an hour. Serve breakfast by pouring it into plates.

Since we will be steaming dried fruits in hot porridge, they will have time to become soft. But if you are afraid that this will not happen, leave them in boiling water after rinsing and until you add them to the saucepan.

Option 4: Hercules porridge with milk and nuts in pots

Once upon a time, porridge was prepared exclusively in the oven and in pots. Today the first one is difficult to find, even in the village, but there are no problems with the second one. It is in them that we will make the next porridge.

Ingredients:

  • a third of a glass of peeled walnuts;
  • a third of a glass of peanuts;
  • two and a half glasses of medium-fat milk;
  • a glass of rolled oats;
  • three spoons of sugar;
  • two knobs of butter for the pots.

Step by step recipe

Beat walnuts without partitions and shell fragments together with peanuts without husks in a mortar until they form coarse crumbs.

Now wipe the two clay pots dry. Coat the inner surface with butter. Pay special attention to the top edge, which will not allow the milk to “escape.”

So, at the next stage, add half a glass of oatmeal. Add one and a half tablespoons of sugar. Add an equal volume of the nut mixture.

At the end of preparation, pour milk (a glass at a time) and mix a couple of times in a circle. Immediately place the pots in a heated oven. Do not cover with a lid.

Cook oatmeal porridge in milk for about 20 minutes, after which cover the pots. Leave inside to infuse, turning off the stove.

This version of nut porridge can be served with oatmeal directly in pots. In this case, place flat saucers under them to avoid burning your hands and the surface of the table.

Option 5: Hercules porridge with berries and milk

Berries, like nuts and dried fruits, go perfectly with any oatmeal. The main thing is to add them at the very end.

Ingredients:

  • three tablespoons of raspberries;
  • three spoons of blueberries;
  • three spoons of blackberries;
  • 605 grams of milk;
  • standard glass of cereal (“Hercules”);
  • three spoons of sugar;
  • butter for porridge.

How to cook

Wash all berries carefully. Look through the process to see if there are any damaged areas and remove them if found. Lay out to dry in one layer on a dry towel.

While this is happening, bring fresh, cold milk to a boil in a clean saucepan. As soon as it increases, reduce the temperature and remove the film.

While stirring hot milk, add oatmeal. Continue mixing. Cook the porridge for about ten minutes.

Then add white sugar and butter. Actively, but as carefully as possible, whisk the oatmeal porridge with milk.

Pour breakfast into bowls and sprinkle with equal amounts of different berries. Serve immediately hot.

It is better to add the berries when serving, otherwise they will soften and release juice. And what is important to us is not so much a beautiful appearance, which is important, but also the preservation of useful substances that will be “lost” during even a short heat treatment.

Option 6: Hercules porridge in milk with canned peaches in a slow cooker

We suggest cooking the last version of oatmeal in a slow cooker. It is in this modern machine that breakfast will turn out to be exceptionally tender. But we will use canned peaches as an additional fruit ingredient.

Ingredients:

  • four halves of canned peaches;
  • three glasses of milk;
  • spoon (tablespoon) of sugar;
  • a glass of oatmeal;
  • butter into porridge.

Step by step recipe

Pour three full glasses of milk into a bowl (dry and clean). Wait until it boils in the “Cooking” mode. Remove the film.

Pour in the flakes and mix with a silicone spatula. Cook the porridge, stirring three or four times, for ten minutes.

During this time, remove four halves of canned peaches. Get wet from the syrup. Cut into small cubes.

After the specified time has passed, add sugar to the oatmeal porridge with milk. Also add peach slices. Turn off the multicooker.

Leave the breakfast to stand under a tightly closed lid for another ten minutes. Then pour into plates and top with crispy cookies.

Canned peaches are sweet on their own, so we added a small amount of sugar to prevent the porridge from being too cloying. In any case, before steaming, taste it for sweetness and adjust the amount of this ingredient to taste.

Oatmeal on water: proportions

Many people prefer to cook oatmeal in water. This dish is less caloric and retains more nutrients. If you are interested in oatmeal porridge, the proportions should be as follows:

  • one and a half glasses of oatmeal;
  • 2 glasses of water.

First you need to boil water and then add oatmeal. If you are not on a diet, you can add salt and a little sugar to the porridge. In a quarter of an hour the dish will be ready. Remember to stir constantly so that the porridge does not burn.

Option 7: Classic recipe for oatmeal porridge with milk

We are sure there is no point in talking about the benefits of oatmeal in the morning. Much has been written about how much energy and benefits it gives the body. But today we will focus on the options that can be made. Let's start with the classic oatmeal porridge with milk.

Ingredients:

  • a glass of Hercules cereal;
  • two and a half glasses of fresh milk;
  • 29 grams of butter (butter);
  • salt for porridge;
  • two spoons of sugar to the porridge.

Step-by-step recipe for oatmeal porridge with milk

Pour all the fresh milk into the saucepan. Place on the burner and bring to a boil over medium heat.

As soon as it starts to rise (don't miss this moment!), add a small pinch of salt.

In addition, introduce a full glass of oatmeal. Mix vigorously with a long spoon or spatula. Immediately reduce the fire to a minimum.

At the end, pour a couple of spoons of sugar and a piece of fresh butter inside. Lightly whisk the contents of the saucepan and cover tightly with a lid.

Let the porridge brew for about a quarter of an hour, then mix again and pour into plates. When serving, add cookies.

Depending on the type of cereal, the boiling time may vary slightly (from 7 to 14 minutes). Watch the degree of their softness and turn off the heat as soon as Hercules is ready.

How to properly cook oatmeal in water?

Many people claim that they don't like oatmeal - but most often this means that they have only ever tasted poorly prepared porridge. Oatmeal, cooked according to the correct recipe, has a soft consistency and pleasant taste - in order to eat a full bowl of porridge in the morning, you don’t need to overpower yourself at all.

The simplest porridge recipe is cereal with water. How to cook it correctly?

  • First of all, the oatmeal must be washed. Some housewives, if they have extra time, pre-soak the flakes, allowing them to soften a little, others cook the oatmeal right away. But it is necessary to rinse the cereal - let the small debris be washed out of it.
  • Next you need to determine the amount of water. The liquid is taken at the rate of 2 cups per 1 cup of oatmeal. If you want the porridge to be completely liquid, you can even take more water - but this is usually determined during cooking, adding liquid as necessary.
  • The oatmeal is poured into a thick-bottomed pan that protects the porridge from burning, filled with the required amount of cold water, and placed on high heat - after the water boils, turn it down to medium. Note that some people prefer to first boil the water and then add the cereal - however, this is wrong; gradually warming up the cereal retains more beneficial properties.
  • Cook the porridge over medium heat for fifteen to twenty minutes, stirring all the time. Soon the oatmeal will thicken - carefully taste the porridge to make sure it is ready. Of course, you need to add salt - it’s better to do this two to three minutes before the end of cooking.

You can throw a little butter into the finished porridge - or you can limit yourself to the dietary option. Even ordinary oatmeal has a pleasant taste - the main thing is to cook it for the right time.

Because oatmeal contains a huge amount of valuable substances that make it one of the most useful crops. Yogurts, probiotics and other highly advertised products and drugs will not cope with discomfort the same way as oatmeal will - it will remove all the harmful things and fill the body with useful substances. It also coats the mucous membranes, thanks to which gastritis can even be cured. That's what many doctors say, anyway.

Oatmeal and rolled oats are the same thing. Under the second name, oatmeal was sold in stores for a long time, so many began to call it rolled oats. Nowadays, the word “rolled oatmeal” usually means a large type of oatmeal.

Oatmeal maintains energy balance in the body, since the complex carbohydrates it contains are not broken down immediately, but slowly, gradually, thereby maintaining a stable blood sugar level. In addition, oatmeal porridge helps cleanse blood vessels and reduce cholesterol levels in the blood; this is an excellent option for preventing atherosclerosis.

You can talk about the beneficial properties of such porridge for more than one hour. It’s better to just learn how to cook it correctly and include it in your diet as often as possible. The improvement in well-being will be noticeable!
