Every mother should know how to prepare a classic potato casserole, because this hearty and tasty dish can be given even to small children. They will definitely love it! Try cooking!

Potato casserole with minced meat - classic recipe

The simplest and most proven recipe. It is very reminiscent of the version from kindergarten, but it is tastier because there are not only fluffy and soft potatoes, but also creamy cheese and melting sweet carrots. You can use any minced meat for the filling, as long as it is fresh and tasty.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes - 1.5 kg.
  • Butter - 50 gr.
  • Milk - 200 ml (can be replaced with sour cream).
  • Minced meat - 700 gr.
  • Onion - 1 pc.
  • Carrots - 1 pc.
  • Seasoning with Provençal herbs is optional.
  • Ground nutmeg - 1/2 tsp.
  • Paprika - 1 tbsp. l.
  • Any cheese you like - 150 gr.
  • Salt, pepper - to taste.

To prepare the casserole, we need fully boiled potatoes. To do this, place peeled potato tubers in boiling, salted water and cook until tender over moderate heat. If you cut the tubers into pieces, the potatoes will cook faster.

We check readiness by piercing with a knife or fork. Pound the finished potatoes with the addition of butter and milk. If desired, milk can be replaced with sour cream, it will also turn out very tasty.

The puree should be homogeneous, fluffy and soft, but not liquid.

As a rule, while the potatoes are cooking, there is time to prepare the filling. Fry the minced meat to remove excess moisture, salt, pepper, and add paprika. It will give it a beautiful color. I really like to add nutmeg and herbal seasonings too. It all sounds really good in the finished dish.

Cut the onion, grate the carrots and combine with the minced meat. Fry everything together for a couple more minutes. And the minced meat filling is ready.

Grease a baking sheet with high sides with vegetable or butter. Place half of the boiled potatoes on it. Let's level it out.

Place the minced meat filling on top of the potato layer. Where I lack the height of the sides, I slightly press the minced meat into the soft potatoes.

Cover the top of the minced meat with the remaining amount of puree. This is no longer so simple, you need to act gradually and carefully.

You can sprinkle cheese on top. Or you can do without it, just leave the potatoes. I like it with cheese.

Place in the oven at 200 degrees for 10-15 minutes so that the casserole is nicely browned. All the components are ready, so it doesn’t take much time.

Cut the finished yummy into portions and serve hot. I chopped a cucumber and sprinkled it with paprika for beauty. Dare to fly in!
