This dish has so many varieties that sometimes you are even surprised. The main line of dishes under this name is meat baked in sauce with cheese. The sauce should not be mayonnaise either.

How to cook French potatoes with chicken:

  1. Peel the potatoes, rinse, cut into circles. Place the potatoes in water and rinse off any starch.
  2. Peel the onion, rinse, cut into circles.
  3. Coarsely grate any hard cheese.
  4. Rinse the meat well (you can soak it in water for 10 minutes), dry it, cut into long slices. Wrap the meat in cling film or a bag and beat it a little.
  5. Grease a heat-resistant dish with oil (it is best to bake in a rectangular or square shape). Place the onion in the pan. Place half the potatoes in an even layer on the onion bed, brush with sunflower oil (about 1 tablespoon), salt and pepper. If desired, season with your favorite spices or sprinkle with chopped garlic cloves.
  6. Place chicken meat on the potato layer, season with salt and ground pepper, brush with mayonnaise.
  7. Cover the meat with the remaining potatoes. If desired, brush with mayonnaise. Sprinkle the potato layer with cheese. Cover the pan with foil.
  8. Set the oven temperature to 180 degrees and preheat. Bake the dish for about 40 minutes.
  9. After 40 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and remove the foil from it. Bake the potatoes in French until the cheese is golden brown.

Serve in portions; before serving, garnish with parsley and fresh vegetable salad.

In the classic version there are no tomatoes or mushrooms. But a lot of onions are used, and chicken breast is used as meat.

You will need:

  • chicken fillet - 1 kg;
  • onion - 3 large heads;
  • potatoes - 1 kg;
  • mayonnaise - 3 tbsp. spoons;
  • cheese - 150 g;
  • salt and pepper.

Preparation

  1. Cut the breast into slices 0.5 cm thick. Beat them lightly (it’s convenient to do this in cling film). Sprinkle with pepper and salt.
  2. Cut the onion into rings and marinate. Place on fillet.
  3. Peel and thinly slice the potatoes, sprinkle with vegetable oil, add salt and spices, stir. Place an overlap on top of the onions to create “fish scales.”
  4. Grate the cheese, sprinkle on top, press with your hands.
  5. Make a mesh of mayonnaise on the surface or distribute it evenly over the cheese.
  6. Bake at 180° for 40 minutes covered. Remove the lid and bake for another 10 minutes.

With tomatoes

French baked chicken with tomatoes is lower in calories since it does not use potatoes. Therefore, instead of breast, you can take fattier thighs: they are more satisfying, and it is convenient to lay them out in portions on plates.

You will need:

  • chicken thighs - 1 kg;
  • onion - 1 head;
  • tomatoes - 3 pcs.;
  • cheese - 200 g;
  • mayonnaise - 3 tbsp. spoons;
  • salt pepper.

Preparation

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment. Salt and pepper the thighs, place on it.
  2. Chop the onion into half rings and distribute among the pieces of meat.
  3. Scald the tomatoes with boiling water and remove the skins. Cut into circles and place in a third layer.
  4. Top with mayonnaise.
  5. Sprinkle with cheese.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes at 180°.

You should check readiness by piercing the thigh. If light juice flows out of it, you can remove the pan from the oven.

French chicken with mushrooms and potatoes, recipe step by step:

First of all, remove the skin from the legs and carefully trim the meat from the bones. Beat it, marinate it in spices with mayonnaise, let it wait aside.

Now we have all the ingredients ready, let’s assemble our French chicken.


Pour some oil onto a baking sheet (use refined, odorless oil) and place the onion. Place a layer of potatoes on it, close to each other, and pickled chicken meat on top of it.

Now cover everything with foil and put it in the oven. Before doing this, you can pour half a glass of water into a baking tray so that all the products steam a little and become tender.


After half an hour (our oven is 200 degrees), open the foil.

Despite the eloquent name, the French have never heard of such a dish as French chicken with potatoes baked in the oven. But this in no way diminishes its excellent taste, emphasized by a bouquet of aromatic spices.

In the classic version of cooking from vegetables, only onions and potatoes are used, but in different original versions this dish can be found with the addition of fried mushrooms or fresh tomatoes.

Preparing the dish “French Chicken with Potatoes in the Oven”

We prepare the necessary products. Wash the chicken fillet with cold running water and dry with a paper or cotton towel.

Peel the onion and cut into rings about 0.5 mm thick.

Peel the potatoes, cut out the “eyes” and cut into circles about 0.5-0.7 cm thick.

Grind the mixture of peppers and dried oregano in a special mill or pound in a mortar.

The secret to preparing the classic version of the dish “French Chicken with Potatoes in the Oven” is that all the ingredients are laid out in layers in a certain sequence. We start by placing onion rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment and greased with vegetable oil.

The next layer is potatoes cut into slices, which should be topped with salt and pepper to taste.

Next comes a layer of marinated chicken fillet. After this, cover the baking sheet with foil and place it in an oven heated to 200 degrees for 20 minutes.

While the French chicken with potatoes is simmering in the oven, grate the hard cheese on a coarse grater.

When the meat is almost ready (after 20 minutes), remove the baking sheet from the oven, remove the foil, sprinkle the chicken with cheese and put it back in the oven to brown.

When the cheese on top has melted beautifully and an appetizing golden brown crust has appeared, the dish can be served.

How to cook French potatoes in a slow cooker

I like this dish because it can be prepared anywhere and everywhere. If there is an oven, then it’s in it, if not, it’s not a problem. We can cook it in the microwave or double boiler, or even in a frying pan. Yes, there won’t be that beautiful golden brown crust, but the food will still be very tasty. So let's cook it in a unique unit - a multicooker.

We take:

  • Chicken fillet - 3 pcs.
  • Potatoes 6-7 pcs.
  • Onion - 1 pc.
  • Hard cheese – 150 g
  • Mayonnaise - 3-4 tbsp. l
  • Salt, spices - to taste
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tbsp. l

Wash the chicken fillet and dry it. Then rub each piece with salt and sprinkle with spices. Place in a bowl and leave for a few minutes.

Pour some vegetable oil into the multicooker bowl. Turn on the “Frying” mode, set the temperature to 160 °C and the time to 15 minutes. Click "Start". You can also use the “Bake” function.

Place the chicken in a bowl and with the lid open, fry it on one side for 15 minutes.

In the meantime, let's take care of the vegetables. Peel the onion from the outer skin, wash it and cut it into large rings.

Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut it into circles. If the potatoes are very large, you can cut them into half rings. Let's salt it a little.

Grate the hard cheese on a coarse grater. To prepare this dish, you can use ready-made grated cheese in a package.

15 minutes have passed. The chicken was fried on one side. Turn it over with the brown side up.

Place onion rings on the meat. The circles can be placed whole, or they can be disassembled into thin rings. It's just how you like it.

Well, put potato mugs on top of the onions. We lay them out in several layers. So that the entire surface is covered with them.

Lubricate the potatoes generously with mayonnaise. Spread it over the entire layer. Mayonnaise will add softness and tenderness to the food.

Sprinkle shavings of grated cheese on top of the mayonnaise layer. Distribute it over the entire surface. Having melted, together with mayonnaise, the cheese will create an unusually soft and fluffy delicious top. Close the lid. Set the “Baking” mode, temperature 160°C and time 30 minutes. Click “Start”.

After 30 minutes, a signal sounds informs us that our food is ready. Open the lid. Let the dish sit for a while.

Then cut into portions. Place portions on plates. You can sprinkle dill and parsley on top. And we serve it to the table.

As you can see, our dish turned out appetizing, tender and very tasty. The meat turned out juicy and soft, the potatoes were rich in juice and the aroma of spices. The mayonnaise-cheese cap, although not as rosy as in the oven, is just as velvety and tasty. Enjoying such a hot dish is a pleasure.
