The most common LG washing machine error codes
The most common errors (malfunctions) include incorrect actions by the user of the device due to inattention or negligence in relation to the operating rules of LG washing machines. These shortcomings include:
- Machine overload.
- Problems with the hatch locking device (UBL).
- Installing child locks and the like.
- Problems with pouring, heating, draining liquid from the AFM, and so on.
All these errors are indicated by codes - OE, DE, UE, CL, IE, etc.
In reality, such errors in the operation of such a complex device as an automatic washing machine are many times greater. But in this article we will analyze only error codes, the correction of which will not require serious intervention and can be completely corrected on our own.
Decoding codes
- The UE error on the lg washing machine means that the machine has recognized an unbalanced load.
- If OE is displayed, then the problem is with the drain pump.
- PE means problems with the water level sensor.
- If the LE error is displayed on the display of the lg washing machine, then there is a problem with the hatch blocking.
- If FE is displayed, the problem is due to overflow.
- tE will appear when the water heating sensor fails.
- PF – power failure.
- E1 – information warning about water leakage into the pan.
- CL is a protection, not a fault.
- IE – valve malfunction.
- dE – open door.
The reasons for errors can be completely different.
Table with information codes (error codes)
In the table below, we have listed the main error codes for LG washing machines, possible problems and the causes of their occurrence.
Error code | Problem | Causes |
F.E. | Tank overflow | Damage to the water level sensor or its wiring, fill valve, malfunction of the control module |
I.E. | Tank won't fill | Low pressure or lack of water in the water supply, breakdown of the water level sensor or valve, clogged hose or filter |
OE (03) | The machine does not drain water | A clogged hose, filter or sewer, a broken drain pump or a malfunction of the control module |
1E | Water leak | Violation of the tightness of the tank, hoses and their connections, breakdown of the water level sensor |
P.E. | Water level sensor error | Damage to the water level sensor, too low or too high water pressure in the water supply |
UE | Drum balancing is out of balance | Incorrect loading of laundry, drum malfunction |
DE | The washing machine door is not closed | Foreign objects entering the hatch, damage to the lock mechanism, door misalignment |
L.E. | Drum lock | Foreign object, low voltage |
C.E. | Motor overload | Too much laundry in the drum, motor defects |
5E (SE) | Engine malfunctions | Hall sensor failure |
T.E. | Water does not heat up | The temperature sensor or heating element is faulty |
HE | The heating element is faulty | Failure of the heating element |
Reasons for errors
The reason a certain code appears on the device display:
- What does the UE error mean in an lg washing machine? The code is for informational purposes only, since the machine only informs that it will not be able to rotate without the risk of damage.
- OE - An error is displayed if, five minutes after the pump started operating, water has not been removed from the tank.
- PE – A program failure will mean that water will take a long time to fill the tank or faster than expected.
- LE – Fault caused by undervoltage.
- FE – May be caused by a faulty electronic controller or an overloaded tank. If you use the wrong detergent, suds may fill the tank and cause the FE code to appear on the LCD. Problem with the water pressure sensor. It will also occur if there is a foreign object in the water supply cap.
- tE – Defect in the heating circuit.
- PF – the device may not be connected to a power outlet, but is powered by a multifunctional connector.
- E1 – The main problem here is depressurization.
- CL – Lights up when the buttons on the display are pressed randomly. CL is childproof, so when this symbol appears, the device does not respond to button presses and does not open the door.
- IE – Occurs if the device is not filled with water within the allotted time.
- dE – Appears on the display when the door is open, there may also be problems with the locking mechanism.
LG washing machine OE error
If the washing is in full swing, the machine tank is full of laundry, water and foam, then according to the law of the sandwich (it always falls with the oil side down), prepare for the fact that the inscription “OE” may appear on the display of the washing machine (in Russian transcription it would better sound like O !E!). These symbols indicate that:
- there is a blockage in the drain system of the device (filter, hoses);
- the home sewer system, to which the discharge of waste liquid from the LG ACM is connected, may be seriously clogged and needs to be cleaned;
- the drain pump of the washing machine has failed;
- The water level meter (sensor) does not work;
- The electrical controller (a device that protects the electric motor) has broken down.
Decoding the icons on the washing machine panel
If some manufacturers have washing modes encrypted on the control panel with symbolic icons, then LG signs the programs near the selector, so decryption is usually not required. However, in some cases, the user needs help to determine which mode to wash a particular type of laundry.
LG washing machines have the following types of programs:
- Cotton. Used for washing light or colored cotton fabrics, the duration is up to 2.5 hours depending on the set temperature range, spin speed, choice of additional rinse or other options. In this mode, the drum rotates at high speed, and taking into account high temperatures (up to 90°C), the machine efficiently and effectively washes even heavily soiled laundry.
- Cotton fast (Eco). A similar program designed for washing lightly soiled laundry at 40°-60°C. The duration of the cycle is about one and a half hours. In this mode, there is a significant reduction in energy consumption.
- Fast 30. Short mode to refresh laundry for 30 minutes at 30°-40°C.
- Everyday wash, Synthetics. For lightly soiled everyday items made of acrylic, nylon, polyamide. Washing occurs at a temperature of 40°C, which eliminates stretching and shedding of items. Duration – 70 minutes.
- Delicate. Designed for lace clothes, silk blouses and shirts, tulle and other items made of thin fabrics. Performed for an hour at 30°C.
- Hand wash, wool. Mode for wool, cashmere, knitted items, as well as fabrics marked “Hand wash”. The cycle is characterized by a smooth rocking of the drum, without intense revolutions, to prevent damage to clothes. Washing lasts almost an hour at 40°C.
- Duvet blanked. For bulky items with filling: down jackets, blankets, jackets. Duration is one and a half hours, temperature – 40°C.
- Baby's clothes. Washing occurs at high temperature to remove all bacteria. Rinsing is done with increased amounts of water to reliably remove any detergent residue. The cycle runs for 140 minutes.
- Biocare. For removing difficult stains (blood, chocolate, etc.) on fabrics that can withstand high temperatures.
- True Steam steam cleaning. Steaming can remove bacteria and harmful allergens, as well as get rid of unpleasant odors and smooth out wrinkles on laundry. Completion time – 20 minutes.
- Hypoallergenic. Wash at 60°C with a large number of additional rinses, allowing you to completely get rid of detergent residues and various allergens.
- Silent. Used for work at night. In its process there are no spinning stages, including intermediate ones. The LG machine completes the cycle and stops with water in the tank. The user, upon waking up, turns on the spin and drain. Not intended for washing heavily soiled items.
- Sports. Effective for membrane fabrics, good for refreshing your shape after sports.
- Intense. The mode is intended for cotton and mixed fabrics. Performed for an hour at 60°C.
- Dark things. For washing dark colored fabrics using special detergents. Thanks to the water temperature of 30°C, there is no risk of fading or discoloration of clothes. Duration – up to 110 minutes.
In addition to washing modes, the control panel has icons for additional options - rinsing, spinning (for some drying models), which can be activated additionally if necessary.
On expensive models of LG machines, the “My Program” or “Load Cycle” option is provided. It allows the user to independently program the equipment, setting the duration of the mode, the number of rinses, spin speed, etc.
Let's start washing
After deciphering all the symbols on the machine body, the user can begin operating the equipment. He needs to carry out the following manipulations:
- select a program based on the composition of the fabric being washed;
- load products inside the unit;
- add detergent and conditioner to the cuvette;
- press the desired key to launch the selected function;
- monitor the functioning of the equipment on the display.
The display will show each washing cycle, indicate water heating, and the number of revolutions. To keep your clothes wrinkle-free, you can run the “No Wrinkles” program. Once activated, a special icon will flash on the display. To activate the drum cleaning function, you must press the “No creases” and “Intensive” keys. The process will allow you to quickly remove: mold, debris, dirt from the moving unit. We figured out what the signs on the panels of LG cars mean. If something is not clear, write comments and ask questions.

LG washing machine breakdowns
Before we begin deciphering the codes, I want to draw your attention to the following factors that can quite seriously affect the operation of your washing machine.
I also draw your attention to the fact that error codes do not indicate exactly a broken part, they show an incorrectly functioning circuit, to which the failed spare part may belong. For example, the dE error does not mean that you need to immediately change the lock; first you need to check the contacts, which, by the way, very often burn out, and it also happens that a wire falls off at the terminal. If you see that the washing machine takes in a lot of water or, on the contrary, an IE error pops up, then first of all you need to check not the pressure switch, that is, the water level sensor, but the pressure switch hose, it is this that often gets clogged, on this you can watch the video a little a little lower Another rather serious problem is associated with the tachometer, this is especially evident on washing machines with direct drive, at least in these units, I have to change this spare part much more often than in washing machines with a belt drive. In the photo below you can see the structure of the direct drive motor
Photo of motor for LG washing machine with direct drive
Further, when I decipher the codes, I will have to rely specifically on the photo of the direct drive motor and the video, which you should definitely have watched, and now you can start deciphering the error codes on the LG washing machine
LG washing machine errors
I want to say a few words about repairing the control module.
This spare part is very complicated and I do not recommend you do the repair yourself. Firstly, the control unit is completely filled with silicone, so it is very difficult to remove it from the case. Secondly, novice craftsmen make a big mistake when they rip the board out of the case in a barbaric way, thereby damaging all the tracks and rendering the board inoperable. In general, this kind of work should be done by a smart craftsman, it requires experience and knowledge Table of error codes for an LG washing machine
Error code | Reasons for the error | Troubleshooting methods |
dE | The washing machine door is not locked | This breakdown occurs due to the fact that you either forgot to close the hatch and press the “Start” button, or simply did not slam the door completely. It happens that the mechanism on the hatch fails, in which case you need to see how the tongue, that is, the door hook, springs |
I.E. | During the allotted time, the water did not have time to reach the required level in the tank | There can be many reasons for this malfunction, but first of all you need to check the pressure; to do this, unscrew the water inlet hose from the washing machine, lower it into a basin and turn on the water. There is a filter in the valve body; it must be pulled out with pliers and washed thoroughly. Then we will proceed in order
|
P.E. | Water supply error | In general, you need to do the same thing as in the previous paragraph, these codes are almost identical |
F.E. | There is too much water in the tank | First of all, we check the pressure switch tube, or rather, we blow it out; if that doesn’t help, we need to replace it. Then you need to look at the valve, it happens that it sticks in the open position. In general, this error occurs due to the fact that the washing machine has reached a critical water level. Above I posted a video in which I explained, quite clearly, about all the nuances associated with the water level sensor. If you have an IE, PE or FE , feel free to watch this video |
O.E. | During the allotted time, the washing machine did not drain the water. | You shouldn’t immediately run to the store to buy a drain pump, that is, a pump, first do the following procedure
If all the operations performed did not help, call a technician, most likely there is a problem with the control module |
UE | Improper balancing of laundry in the drum | Usually occurs as a result of unevenly laid laundry, usually a simple restart of the wash helps, or you need to pull out the laundry, straighten it and put it back. If this does not help, try adding laundry, it is quite possible that there is not enough of it |
tE | Water temperature is higher than specified values | The culprit for such a code may be a thermistor, that is, a water temperature sensor; it happens that it sticks. Another problem may be related to the control module, in which case you cannot do without a wizard |
L.E. | The electronic control module does not see the hatch door lock | In principle, I have already described a similar error above, but this code directly indicates a malfunction of the bow lock Try the following thing. Take a screwdriver in your hands, turn on the machine and imitate the hatch hook, that is, you need to do the same thing that the hook does when you close the door. If water starts pouring into the machine, then most likely the problem is in the door mechanism, if everything remains the same → try changing the lock |
C.E. | The motor cannot spin the laundry | In LG washing machines with direct drive, an error may occur as a result of vibration of the drum, that is, the bearings may have failed or the same shock absorbers may no longer perform their function. In machines with a belt drive, as well as with direct drive, the cause of such a malfunction may be a large amount of laundry loaded into the SM tank |
E3 | Cannot detect load of laundry in washing machine | There is practically no information about this error, but from personal experience I concluded that it is connected precisely with the amount of laundry, or rather with the lack thereof. That is, if you have loaded very little laundry, then a very smart control module will tell you that it’s a no-brainer to wash with an empty drum. Also, such a code may occur as a result of loading a large amount of laundry |
A.E. | Accumulation of water in the tray of an LG washing machine → only for machines equipped with the AquaStop system | First, let's figure out what this crap is. The system is designed as follows → at the bottom of the washing machine there is a foam plastic float; in the event of a leak from under the pipes or tank, water accumulates in the pan, as a result it raises this float, and it, in turn, presses on the microphone, which disconnects the washing machine from power. In general, if you do not find water in the pan of your washing machine, and this is the error displayed, then first of all look at how the float is positioned, sometimes it jumps due to vibration or something gets under it. If there is water, then check the pipes, see if the tank is broken and pay special attention to the hatch cuff |
E1 | The same as AE, that is, either water is leaking into the washing machine tray, or some crap has gotten under the foam float | See point above |
S.E. | Tachometer error or as it is also called “hall sensor” | The essence of this error is that the control module does not see the engine rotation. It also happens due to the fact that the contacts of the tachometer are broken or even closed. In the photo above, you can see the direct drive motor for the LG washing machine. Many people ask the question where is the hall sensor located in such an engine, I think the photo shows everything clearly |
Double unbalance designation
This error code has two spellings: uE (small u) and UE (all letters are large). The uE error means that the lg washing machine has detected that something is going wrong and is doing everything possible to change the situation. Water is added at low speed to ensure even loading. But if this is not enough to return to normal mode, the same signal is sent out in large letters. This is already a call to the user, a sign of the need for his intervention. The regular appearance of such a signal and problems with spinning during each wash indicate possible mechanical damage. Rare blinking - most likely an error was made when loading laundry and it can be easily corrected on your own.
How to install a program in an LG washing machine
After familiarizing yourself with the modes and selecting the necessary one (this is very easy to do, because all programs on LG washing machines are signed and not marked with symbolic icons), the user needs to load the laundry, add detergent to the cuvette and start the desired program. This can be done using the mode selector. After selecting a cycle, the display will show the cycle time. In addition to the timer counting down, the machine will report each stage of washing by flashing the corresponding indicator icons on the control panel.
In addition to the stages and duration of the cycle, the display indicates the water temperature and the number of revolutions during the spin cycle. The user can change these parameters independently in accordance with the values allowed by the mode.
To prevent things from becoming crumpled after washing, you can activate the “No wrinkles” option. The LG machine will indicate that the function is running by flashing the corresponding icon.
To prevent children from messing with the settings, you can enable the control panel lock. When activated, a special icon will light up.
Most LG machine models are equipped with a drum cleaning function, which can be activated by a combination of the “Intensive” and “No Crease” keys. It is designed to keep the drum clean and remove mold, dirt, and debris from it.
