How to quickly cook peas by soaking in water?
In the store you buy hard packaged peas, which can be either whole or halved. This determines how long it takes to soak.
The ideal option to speed up the cooking of peas is to pre-soak them in cold water.
Whole peas are filled with cold water in a ratio of 1:2. That is, if you have one glass of peas, then there should be twice as much water. The process will take at least five hours. When the beans swell and increase in size, they can be used for further cooking, which will take about 90 minutes.
Split peas are considered a more popular ingredient due to the fact that they do not require lengthy preparation. It is enough to leave it in cold water for only 30-60 minutes, and then lower it into cold water and bring it to readiness for 50 minutes over low heat.

- 1 tbsp. l. lemon or lime juice.

- Peel, finely chop or grate the ginger.
- Heat vegetable oil in a thick-bottomed saucepan. Place ginger, turmeric, mustard, and garlic into a bowl. Fry all ingredients over low heat, stirring constantly.
- As soon as the mustard seeds begin to crackle, pour 2 liters of water into the container. Add prepared legumes, celery and coriander cut into half rings to the cold liquid.
- Stir the soup, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

How to properly prepare pea soup?
Before you prepare the soup, you need to decide for yourself:
- how much soup is needed;
- Is it necessary to soak peas and how much?
- what kind of chickpeas to use: whole or chopped;
- how to cook the first dish without soaking;
- why peas don’t boil if everything is done correctly;
- how to cook pea soup so that the peas are softened.
Housewives who will be preparing this soup for the first time think about how much of the finished ingredient needs to be added. Chefs recommend using 1/2 cup of legumes per 1 liter of water to prepare a thick dish.
Before cooking the first peas, the main ingredient should be soaked, but you can skip this step in cooking. The sequence is as follows:
- You need to pour it in for half an hour and then put it on the stove.
- When the liquid boils, you need to add a glass of chilled boiled water. This procedure must be repeated 5 to 7 times.
- Next, you need to cook the soup as usual.
The temperature change method will help you cook pea soup quickly.
Whole or chopped chickpeas?
Housewives are faced with the question: is it better to use split or whole peas? It is better to opt for a chopped ingredient, since it cooks faster and becomes softer. In addition, the variety of legumes is important. If this information is not indicated when purchasing, you can remember the manufacturer. It will come in handy if you cook peas successfully.
Another argument in favor of chopped chickpeas is the preservation of beneficial properties. Therefore, the benefits and nutritional value of a dish do not depend on its variety.
Healthy and tasty too!
The soup itself came to this world from gloomy Denmark, but it was brought to us only in the seventeenth century. The soup was so loved for its aroma and original taste that it decided to stay for another four centuries, but most likely it will never go away. Different countries have added something of their own to the recipe; for example, the ideal Finnish pea soup is made with beef. Everyone who has tried it notes the extraordinary satiety and nutritional value of pea soup, and this is all thanks to the very healthy composition and, of course, the peas themselves. What's so healthy about soup?
- Vegetables have always been one of the main sources of vitamins, and it is impossible to live without consuming them. In addition to vitamins, each of them helps the body in a specific way: strengthen the immune system, help with digestion, or cleanse the body of harmful toxins.
- The meat on which soup is often cooked. Of course, the soup can easily do without this ingredient, however, meat is very important for the health of your body, for ensuring vital functions due to its saturation with proteins and fats. Besides, it's very tasty.
- Soup is a hot liquid dish. Surely, your mother often told you that you need to eat hot and liquid food. She was right, since the body definitely needs to eat not only dry and solid foods, which put a lot of work into the stomach.
Everyone who has tried it notes the extraordinary satiety and nutritional value of pea soup, and this is all thanks to the very useful composition and, of course, the peas themselves.
Advice! To get a truly healthy and tasty soup, be sure to cook according to the recipe. If you are not sure that you are ready to repeat the recipe, for example, you do not know how to cook pea soup so that the peas are boiled, then find another recipe where you can do without this step. If it is required, study or find another dish.
What is the benefit of the peas themselves?
Peas, which are the most important ingredient in this dish, have their own special positive properties. First, I would like to note its undeniable help in normalizing the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract: the digestive organs begin their work, problems associated with the intestines are gradually solved, a good cleansing of the stomach occurs, and other products can envy the digestion of peas. Peas and pea soup are simply ideal for eliminating heartburn and as a remedy for constipation, however, for people suffering from flatulence, it is better to eat the soup in small quantities and at home.
Peas are also talked about as an excellent nutrition for athletes and vegetarians. The fact is that this legume has a high protein content, and is even very suitable as a meat substitute for vegans. And, of course, it is an excellent food product for people leading an active lifestyle. And all this despite the fact that the peas themselves are low-calorie. In its raw form, one hundred grams of peas contain 55 kilocalories, while boiled peas contain only 5 kilocalories. In addition to all this, it is worth saying that peas also contain quite a lot of carbohydrates, which helps to absorb this product well.
We can talk about this culture for a long time:
- A large amount of starch and ascorbic acid.
- Pantry of vitamins B, C, A and PP.
- Fiber haven.
- Record holder for the content of nickel, iron, calcium, magnesium and other substances.
- An assistant in the absorption of glucose and sucrose by diabetics.
Peas have the highest protein content, and are even very suitable as meat substitutes for vegans.
But we should still finish and move on to what we are here for, but first...
Advice! Buy peas and all other products only from trusted places. Well-known chain stores with a good reputation are better than markets, and farm stores are better than supermarkets. Also keep an eye on the expiration date, and only then will you get a tasty and healthy soup.

Cooking chakapuli using smoked meats
Today there are quite a large number of pea soup recipes, among which there are standard options and not so much. In this publication I will look at a not quite ordinary variation.
To prepare the dish we will need:
- 3-4 medium potatoes;
- approximately 150 grams of ham;
- about 150 grams of carrots;
- nearby 100 grams of onions;
- one celery root;
- 2 liters of meat broth;
- 2 bay leaves;
- 1.5 liters of water;
- one sprig of thyme;
- 2 garlic cloves;
- 3 cups split peas.
The first step is to start frying the vegetables. In this case, you can use Provençal vegetable oil, but to make the soup truly aromatic, you can use pre-melted fat for frying. In animal fat brought to a decent temperature, it is necessary to fry the carrots and leeks, previously chopped into cubes. Then garlic is added to the vegetables, ground to a paste. Next, when the vegetables are already half-cooked, you need to add chopped celery, as well as pre-washed peas. Transfer the resulting mixture to a saucepan and fill it with broth and prepared water. Bay leaf and thyme are also added to the container.
Few people know that it is possible to cook pea borscht without first soaking the peas. There is one small milk. To make the soup creamy faster, you should add a pinch of soda to it. The element will not play any role in the formation of taste, but it will help to quickly achieve the desired consistency.
The soup should be cooked until the peas reach the required puree state. Then you can add diced potatoes. Next, you should wait until the potatoes soften. At the very end, you can add ham and, if desired, other smoked meats.

Cooking time – 45 minutes. Number of servings – 8.
Now you know how to cook pea soup for children. It turns out very tender and pleasant to the taste.
The most correct recipe
To prepare pea soup as correctly as possible, you will need the following ingredients:
- 400 grams of split peas;
- croutons - will be needed to serve the dish;
- 100 grams of carrots;
- 2 liters of beef broth;
- 500 grams of potatoes;
- 2 bay leaves;
- 150 grams of onion onion;
- one sprig of thyme;
- 3 cloves of garlic;
- a teaspoon of paprika;
- half a teaspoon of ginger;
- 50 grams of bacon;
- tablespoon marjoram.
The principle of preparing such pea soup is quite simple and similar to the previously described technologies. The main thing is to carry out all the steps step by step so as not to “harm” the dish.
So, in the first chain you need to lightly fry the bacon. Then place all the carrots and onions in the frying pan, pre-cut into fairly small pieces. Once the vegetables are almost ready, you can add slightly chopped garlic and ginger to the pan. Next, you need to add paprika and marjoram to the mixture, and in turn add bay leaves and thyme. Then the contents of the frying pan are moved into the pan, followed by the broth. The pan must be put on fire, then add the washed peas. In this form, the first one needs to be cooked for an hour, then count the diced potatoes and cook for about another half hour. If the entire contents of the pan are ready and softened, you can remove the container from the stove. The soup must be served with croutons.
Old ways
The ancient method of softening peas still helps cooks. You need to add half a teaspoon of soda to two to three liters of water, and the peas will be cooked after 15 minutes of cooking. There is no taste of soda in the soup.
There is another old recommendation. Pour the washed peas with a small amount of water. When it boils, pour in a glass of ice water. Repeat the contrast procedure several times until you reach the desired volume of liquid. The point of repeated topping is that due to a sharp change in temperature, the peas burst and boil faster.
Please note that there are also peas on sale that are specially prepared in factories, which boil very quickly without any additional tricks.
Proper soaking
It is important to know how to properly soak peas so that they boil faster. It’s not enough to simply pour water over the kernels and leave them for a while; you should know all the nuances of preparing such a product. Peas should be soaked only in cold water, otherwise they will simply sour. Moreover, whether it has spoiled or not, you can understand only after preparing the dish. Since in its raw form neither taste nor color will give it away. Remember that peas will double in size when soaked in water. Accordingly, there should be at least two, or even three times more liquid.
Peas are usually not soaked to make soup. The main thing is to sort it out and rinse it thoroughly. And when cooked, the grains will soften and practically turn into mush.
Well, if you are going to cook another dish from peas, and you need them to remain whole, then you need to soak them for several hours. After the peas have already boiled, they must be salted and left in water for about twenty minutes. After which the water is drained and the finished “porridge” is passed through a sieve or meat grinder.

What to do to make peas in soup boil faster
Rinse the peas thoroughly in cold water, then put them in a bowl and cover with water at room temperature, leave to swell for at least 10 hours. If you don’t have that much time, then roast the peas in a dry frying pan for 10 minutes in advance, stirring every 30 seconds, then pour them into cold water and leave for about 30 minutes.
Take a saucepan (preferably one with a thick bottom), put the washed peas in it, fill it with clean water (the water should be a centimeter above the level of the peas) and put it on high heat. After boiling, cook the product for 10-15 minutes, after which pour a glass of ice water into the pan. Bring the contents of the pan to a boil again and continue cooking for at least another 40-50 minutes over low heat. After time has passed, add the required amount of water, vegetables (if making soup), and boiled meat to the pan. 10 minutes before all the vegetables are ready, salt the dish (it’s most important not to salt the peas at the beginning of cooking, because the boiling process will take much longer).
If you want to prepare everyone's pea soup in 30-40 minutes, then in this case, be sure to soak the peas overnight in water, and before cooking, easily grind the peas in a blender and place them in the pan along with the rest of the vegetables. It is believed that peas boil quickly enough if you add a little soda to boiling water when cooking them. In reality, the speed of boiling remains the same, but the finished dish acquires an unpleasant aftertaste.

Secrets of cooking beans
What tricks do novice cooks resort to to make the yellow balls boil faster? However, you need to start not in the cooking process, but by choosing a product on the store shelf. When purchasing, you need to pay attention to the variety of this crop. There are two main varieties of this member of the legume family:
The first type is peeling. It contains a large amount of starch. Typically, beans of this type are used to make various cereals and soups.- The second type is sugar. It is unsuitable for making soups as it shrinks quickly during cooking. Typically this product is used for preservation. In this canned form, it can be added to salads such as Olivier salad or vinaigrette.
It is under no circumstances recommended to purchase an overdried product. The fact is that it acquires a white coating, which then ends up in the broth, and it is extremely difficult to remove it from there. And to observe this coating in the finished dish is quite unpleasant - for many it completely kills the appetite. Good and high-quality peas have a regular round shape. All peas must be the same size and not damaged by pests.
