General principles for preparing fish soups for children

Special attention should be paid to preparing healthy fish soups for children. The main product - fish should only be fresh and well cooked. It is better to give preference to sea or large river fish, with a minimum content of small bones. One of the main conditions is that it should not be excessively oily. For younger children, it is preferable to prepare dishes from river fish; it is easier to digest by the body, and this is important.

It is not necessary to use fresh fish for fish soup. For children over one and a half years old, you can prepare it from canned food, which should also be chosen very carefully. First of all, it is worth assessing the expiration date and condition of the jar. If it seems even a little suspicious, immediately put it aside. It is worth noting that the most delicious soup is obtained from canned fish in oil, and not with its addition.

If the soup is prepared from fresh fish, the broth is initially boiled from it, which is filtered after it is ready. This is done in order to avoid small bones getting into the finished dish. Canned fish is added to the soup when all other ingredients are ready. It is first broken into pieces, removing the hard spinal bones.

Spices should not be added to fish soups for children, and if you need to fry them, it is better to sauté the vegetables in butter.

When serving, fish soup can be seasoned with a little sour cream and finely chopped herbs. This will increase its nutritional value and benefits.

At what age is this product given?

The best way to cook cod for children is to boil it.
Some cod recipes can be used for children under one year old. How much fish to give for the first time depends on the child’s tendency to allergies. If he tolerated other complementary foods well, it is recommended to start with 0.5 tsp. at 9-10 months. Children under one year old are given soup, steamed cutlets, and boiled fillet. In the future, you can prepare more complex dishes for your child - casseroles, mousses, pies.

For children under one year old, it is recommended to pre-cook any fish, but under no circumstances fry it. The daily norm for a child is about 50-70 g. This product can be present in the diet of a baby up to one year no more than 2-3 times a week. If your child is prone to allergies, decide for yourself how much fish to give him. Experts recommend limiting yourself to 1 serving per week.

Children should be taught the habit of healthy and proper eating from an early age. Therefore, it is important to approach the choice of dishes responsibly. If you have passed the stage of the first complementary feeding, which consists of vegetables and fruits, and have already tried meat, then we suggest preparing fish soup for your child. The first dish will appeal not only to the baby, but to everyone in the household. Moreover, one serving contains many useful substances that are important for a growing body.

Fish is a valuable product, rich in saturated acids. If your baby is already one year old and he only eats chicken broth, then this is wrong. There is no need to limit the children's diet, because the baby needs vitamins. As you know, most of the nutrients come from food, so don’t be afraid to give your baby something new.

When can you give it to children?

Pike perch can be introduced into complementary fish feeding as one of the first fish species for a child aged 9-10 months. If your baby has a food allergy, delay introducing any fish until at least one year and be sure to consult your pediatrician. For the first time, you need to give half a teaspoon of fish puree and watch the children. If there is no negative reaction, you can gradually increase the portions and prepare pike perch dishes for your baby.

It is extremely important to choose high-quality fish, caught in an environmentally friendly environment and processed in accordance with technological and sanitary standards. Compliance with storage and transportation rules is equally important. It is advisable to take fresh fish or a high-quality frozen product that has not been defrosted and has been frozen several times.

Carefully inspect the carcass before purchasing. It should be elastic, without cracks, cuts, kinks or other damage. Harmful bacteria multiply quickly in such areas. Press the skin and the fish should immediately return to its previous shape. The belly and fillet should be white. A different color indicates that the fish has been frozen several times.

Choose small fish, as they are more tender. The eyes should be clear and transparent, without dark spots. The gills are bright and elastic, without bruises or spots. It is important to thoroughly heat-treat the fish, since pike perch can be a carrier of parasites. Let's find out how to properly cook this meat.

Why eat fish

Seafood is a storehouse of useful microelements, vitamins and minerals, including:

  • Protein is involved in building and strengthening the cells of the child’s body.
  • Fish oil rich in polyunsaturated Omega-3 acids. They are responsible not only for growth and development, but also for the mental component. It has been proven that the baby’s intelligence depends on these components.
  • Phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron. These elements are responsible for bone strength and metabolism.
  • Vitamins B, A, E, D. They play an important role in the development of the baby’s body. Their deficiency can inhibit growth, cause rickets and skin diseases (eczema, dermatitis). Therefore, it is important to monitor the balance of vitamins, because they support the vital functions of all organs.

Scientists also agree that marine life affects children's sleep, improving it.

Weaning age

Before cooking soup, you need to accustom your baby to a new product. Acquaintance begins at approximately 8–9 months of age. For the first feeding, take fish puree. Give half a teaspoon once a week.

Be careful and careful because this product may cause an allergic reaction in the form of redness on the skin. If the child accepted the new food well, did not develop inflammation, or had any indigestion, then feel free to increase the volume. Closer to 12 months, children are allowed to eat 50–70 g of puree at a time.

From 1 year to 2 years, food from jars is replaced with boiled fish or steamed fillets. For variety, you can make minced meat by sticking meatballs and cutlets or cooking it. Children should be offered fish dishes no more than twice a week.

Choosing the right one

Not every type of fish is suitable for infants. For the first soup, you should choose a low-fat type - hake, cod, pike, flounder. From the age of 2, you can add fattier fish to your diet, for example, carp, catfish, bream.

Fatty varieties (trout, salmon, salmon, mackerel), the child’s body will learn to digest only by the age of 3–4 years.

If a child is accustomed to one type of fish, for example, cod, this does not mean that pike or hake will suit him. Therefore, introduce new types into the diet carefully, monitor the reaction, the baby may develop an allergy.

How to choose fish

Either high-quality frozen fish or freshly caught fish are suitable for baby food. Before purchasing, evaluate its appearance. The carcass must be whole, without cracks or other damage, this reduces the risk of the development and proliferation of pathogenic bacteria. The belly of the pike perch (or the meat itself, if it is a fillet) should be white. A yellowish tint and others indicate that the fish has already been defrosted, and perhaps more than once. Also, dull eyes and gills of a nondescript dark color, sometimes with spots on the surface, may indicate poor quality.

If you have the opportunity to evaluate the smell, do so. By this sign, you can also quickly determine the freshness of the product.

Cooking features

Baby food should be rich in vitamins and minerals that will ensure the development of the body. To cook soups for toddlers correctly and tasty, use the advice of pediatricians and young mothers.

General cooking rules

  1. Do not forget that the fish is introduced in small portions. If the product causes an allergy, do not give it to your child for 2 to 6 months.
  2. For a one-year-old baby, it is better to serve the fillet separately from the broth in which it was boiled. Add the chopped pulp to the vegetable soup.
  3. Do not add salt to food for babies, because they get enough salt from other foods.
  4. Do not use several types of fish at once.
  5. Remove all bones from fillet.
  6. Hold off on trying river species, as they have a higher degree of allergies.
  7. Remember to consult your pediatrician before introducing new foods.

Fillet should always be cleaned and boneless; they are dangerous for an adult, and even more so for a small one. Choose varieties of fish that are not bony, such as pollock, but it is better to avoid river fish, because it is difficult to clean.

If there are small bones left in the meat, try to remove them with tweezers. When cutting a whole fish, remove the backbone first, then the ribs. Feel the fillet with your fingers, as small bones are hidden from the human eye.

Always strain the broth after cooking as there may be bones left in it.

Soup for children under one year old

At this tender age, any new dish is introduced with care. From 9–10 months you can make fish puree, since liquid puree is still prohibited. However, it is better to prepare puree soup.

You will need :

  • 150 g pollock;
  • carrot;
  • potato;
  • half a small onion;
  • 1.5 tbsp. water.

Let's start preparing:

  1. First prepare the fish fillets, rinse them thoroughly and discard the bones. Cut the meat into pieces, place in a pan, fill with water.
  2. Bring the broth to a boil, be sure to skim off the foam.
  3. Boil the fish for 30 minutes. under the lid, then fish the fillets out of the water.
  4. Add chopped vegetables to the broth and boil them until tender.
  5. Place the pollock and other ingredients in a blender bowl and turn the contents into porridge.

Is it possible to use preservation?

Some parents replace fresh fish with canned fish, while other mothers are categorically against such an addition to the soup. Let's figure out which broth is better.

The processed ingredient is convenient to use because it does not require long cooking. We suggest looking at the composition, where the main share is fat. The tins also contain food additives E-200, E-240, E-249, E-260, E-264, E-280, E-283, containing salts. This composition will not benefit the baby.

Based on this, preparing a soup based on processed fish is not recommended. If you want to feed your child such a dish, he must be over 5 years old, because canned food is not suitable for younger children.

Precautionary measures

  • It should be remembered that pike perch, like any fish, is a potentially strong allergen. It should be given to children in small portions (according to age standards), with caution and with mandatory monitoring of the body’s reaction. In case of any negative manifestations, the product is excluded from the menu.
  • If you know that your baby is allergic to fish, delay the introduction for at least a year, and it is better to consult a pediatrician on this issue.
  • Take heat treatment seriously too. Improperly cleaned fish is dangerous due to the presence of small bones (a child may choke), undercooked fish can be infected with helminths, and improperly cooked fish can cause problems with digestion.
