Chicken legs in honey-soy sauce
The sauce perfectly highlights the taste of the chicken and gives it originality and sophistication. Very simple, but very tasty! Ingredients: Chicken drumstick - 6 pcs. How to cook chicken legs in honey-soy marinade
Preheat the oven, prepare a heatproof dish, baking bag or just foil.
Wash and dry your feet. Rub the legs with salt. Don’t add too much salt, as you will use soy sauce later - you risk over-salting, or better yet, don’t add salt at all. And also pepper and any spices you prefer. Set the legs aside and let them sit and soak.
At this time, mix honey. It should be liquid, if it is sugared, warm it up a little to melt it.
Mix soy sauce and crushed or finely chopped garlic - the result is a marinade sauce.
Unfold the bag and place it in the mold so that it is convenient to fold the legs. If you used foil, line your pan with foil, leaving an edge large enough to enclose the chicken.
Take the marinated legs and generously coat them with the prepared marinade. And put it in a bag or form with foil. Pour the remaining sauce into it. Tie the bag/wrap it with foil, preferably in a dome, so that there is air and does not come into contact with the chicken, as the honey will burn. Do not pierce the bag immediately. Place in the preheated oven on the middle or top rack and cook for 45-50 minutes. Pierce the bag only after 25 minutes of cooking. Cooking in foil takes about 10 minutes longer.
Remove the cooked chicken legs in honey-soy sauce from the oven. Serve with boiled potatoes and fresh vegetables. Bon appetit!
Tips for the recipe The taste of the chicken is successfully emphasized by spices such as thyme, marjoram, cumin, as well as fresh garlic and ginger root. When purchasing soy sauce, be sure to look at the ingredients. A quality product must be naturally fermented and contain soybeans, water, and salt. Additions in the form of spices, as well as sugar, corn, and wheat are possible. The main thing is without dyes and flavors.

Adding honey to a recipe is not a very traditional solution for our cuisine, but chicken legs in soy-honey sauce have an exquisite original taste and a beautiful golden brown crust . However, they are not at all sweet.

The lemon also needs to be washed to get rid of dust from the zest. And then we cut it in half and squeeze the juice from one half into a plate. You will need 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
Place the required amount of butter in a small bowl. Place it on the stove and melt the butter over low heat. Don't forget to stir it to prevent it from burning. Allow the butter to cool slightly before adding to the sauce.

Lubricate the legs with the prepared sauce. But it’s better to keep them in the sauce for 2-3 minutes so that they are saturated with it. Grease a baking tray or baking dish with vegetable oil, and then place the greased legs there, at a short distance from each other.
Turn on the oven so that it warms up to 200 degrees. Then we place a baking sheet with chicken legs there and bake them for 30-40 minutes until cooked. When the time is up, turn off the oven and leave the legs in it for another 10-20 minutes.
You can serve chicken drumsticks in honey mustard sauce with any side dish - be it potatoes, mashed potatoes, buckwheat, pasta or rice. A fresh vegetable salad is also great. Bon appetit!
Recipe Tips Instead of chicken drumsticks, you can cook chicken wings or a whole chicken in the same way. Honey mustard sauce can be prepared differently, without lemon juice and butter, but with the addition of tomato paste or ketchup.
Step-by-step recipe for your favorite chicken legs in soy-honey sauce
- We'll start by washing the meat: holding each shank under a running stream, place them on a towel and blot them to remove excess moisture. Advice! There is no need to salt the meat, nor to season it with aromatic spices, because soy sauce itself is quite salty.
- Having prepared a deeper plate or bowl, we begin preparing homemade marinade for chicken.
- First, pour soy sauce into it, then add ketchup, followed by mustard.
- Mix in honey and season it with crushed garlic.
- Mix the contents of the bowl thoroughly and set aside - the path will “ripen”.
- In the meantime, we will begin the first stage of cooking. Pour oil into the frying pan, wait until it heats up at maximum heat, then reduce it to medium intensity and place the legs in a checkerboard pattern in the frying pan (this way more of them will fit!).
- We fry the legs for a short time, the main thing is to brown the sides. To do this, fry them on one side, turn them over - and another 5-7 minutes on the other side.
- When the shanks are slightly dry and browned, pour them with a homemade spicy aromatic gravy. Advice! At this stage, the meat needs to be “stirred” several times, like vegetables in a salad bowl, so that the pieces are evenly covered with the sauce.
- Simmer the meat on the stove, uncovered at all, for about 15 minutes. An indicator that the treat is ready is the thickening of the gravy. To prevent it from turning into caramel, as soon as we see that it has darkened slightly and become more viscous, cover the frying pan and keep it covered on low heat for 3-5 minutes. During this time, the chicken will become completely soft, and most importantly, we will be saturated with the tastes and aromas of the sauce ingredients.
It is best to serve chicken legs, home-cooked in a spicy, sweetish sauce, with fresh sliced vegetables and boiled fluffy rice. It is not necessary to add oil to it before serving. The aromatic gravy will brighten up its blandness and give it a rich flavor palette.
If you are already quite tired of the traditional options for preparing poultry meat for the holidays, you should try something original and extraordinary. Chicken legs stewed in homemade soy-honey sauce turn out so delicious that it’s simply impossible to resist! They are most delicious when freshly cooked, but even when cold, this delicacy is still just as tasty, and you can safely take it to a picnic - no one will go hungry...

Cooking with side dish
With garnish
You can bake chicken with vegetables very tasty in a slow cooker. You don’t have to prepare the side dish separately, and the vegetables, saturated with meat aroma, will have a unique taste. For preparation you need:
- four chicken drumsticks,
- 0.5 kg potatoes,
- two sweet bell peppers,
- 2 tbsp. vegetable oil,
- 2 tbsp. liquid honey,
- classic soy product – 4 tbsp.,
- two cloves of garlic.
Marinate the chicken: combine the sauce with honey, add garlic juice. The legs should be rubbed with salt and poured with marinade. Leave for 20 minutes, covered.
By the way, chicken legs in this marinade can be stored in the refrigerator for three days . The dish will turn out very fragrant. Pour oil into the bowl of the turned on multicooker and lay out the drumsticks (skin side down). Pour potatoes cut into small pieces and chopped peppers on top, add a little water to the bottom (do not mix the products).
The multicooker is turned on to the “Baking” mode for 40-45 minutes. You can put it on “stewing”, then you need to cook for one hour.
Spicy chicken legs in sweet and sour sauce
When you see the fried crust on the legs, it’s hard to resist taking it off all the portions and putting it on your plate. The crust is a must, because the legs are cooked in honey sauce. They acquire sourness due to the addition of vinegar or lemon juice to the gravy.
For 1 kg of legs take:
- 2 tbsp. l. honey;
- 1 tbsp. l. apple cider vinegar;
- Soy sauce, salt, curry powder - to taste.
Rub the legs with salt and spices, pour over honey-vinegar syrup, and place in a hot oven for 40 minutes. To obtain a mirror-glossy crust, brush the legs with pure honey in the oven, about five minutes before cooking. Place the fragrant, beautiful legs on a plate, poured with gravy from the baking sheet.
