How to cook meatballs with gravy in a frying pan


Minced meat dishes are introduced into the child’s diet when he has at least 8 teeth. Meatballs are considered the best option and here's why. When the cutlets are cooked, they are fried in a frying pan in a sufficient amount of oil until fully cooked. Agree, this is not the best food option for a child. Of course, you can and even need to cook steamed cutlets for your child, but today we’ll talk about how to cook meatballs with gravy in a frying pan. What minced meat should I use for cooking?

To prepare homemade meatballs with gravy in a frying pan, you can use any meat: chicken, turkey, rabbit, beef or pork. It’s better, of course, to make assorted meats for minced meat, because... Pork meatballs may turn out to be too fatty, while chicken meatballs, on the contrary, will be too dry.

If you are going to cook meatballs for children, it is recommended to use poultry and veal to prepare minced meat. A rabbit is also suitable based on its positive properties. But it’s better to avoid minced pork altogether; it’s too heavy meat for children, and it will be difficult to digest it.

For everything else, you can completely rely on your own taste and gastronomic preferences. After all, someone can use nutria meat for meatballs. Although some believe that the meat of this animal is only suitable for preparing purely fried dishes, and the broths made from it are tasteless.

How to cook pork meatballs with rice


First, boil the rice until half cooked. Sticky rice is needed for minced meat, so I used round rice, while long grain rice is more suitable for making pilaf. Rinse the rice several times in cold water until it becomes clear. Fill it with boiling salted water, the volume of water should be twice the volume of rice. Cook the rice for about 10 minutes over low heat with the lid closed. Then turn off the stove and leave the rice to stand for another 10 minutes (do not remove the lid). Tip: If you want to get fluffy rice, it is better to take long grain rice and fill it with cold water. And if you need sticky rice for sushi or minced meat, pour boiling water over it.


Peel the onions and carrots. Finely chop the onion and grate the carrots on a coarse grater.


Heat a frying pan with a small amount of refined vegetable oil and lightly fry the vegetables until soft. Let cool.


Making minced meat for meatballs. Place minced pork (you can mix pork with beef), egg, boiled rice and fried vegetables in a deep bowl. Add salt, ground black pepper and spices for meat (optional).


Mix well until the minced meat becomes homogeneous.


You can make meatballs in 2 ways: with frying before stewing and without it. I prefer not to fry the meatballs - it is healthier for both children and those with health problems. So, we wet our hands with cold water and start making meatballs. Place them tightly next to each other in the pan where the vegetables were fried.


Let's prepare tomato-sour cream sauce for meatballs. In a small bowl, mix tomato paste or sauce (use a little more sauce than indicated in the recipe) and sour cream. Then dilute with cold water and mix with a whisk.


Pour the tomato-sour cream sauce over the meatballs until they are completely covered. Cover the pan with a lid and place on the stove.


Simmer the meatballs in a frying pan over low heat for 20-25 minutes. Then remove the lid and continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes. During this time, the meatballs will be soaked in the tomato-sour cream filling and will become tender and tasty, and the sauce will evaporate by half and thicken. During the stewing process, you can add salt and pepper to the sauce.

  • rice cereal – 100 grams;
  • medium-sized carrots – 1 piece;
  • medium-sized onion – 1 piece;
  • salt, pepper to taste;
  • vegetable oil for frying.

Gravy ingredients

  • tomato paste diluted with water – 100 ml;
  • wheat flour – 40-50 grams;
  • mayonnaise or sour cream 80-100 grams (it is better to use a mixture of mayonnaise and sour cream in a 1:1 ratio);
  • water – 200 ml;
  • salt to taste.

Step by step recipe

    Boil the rice in salted water until half cooked. Strain the rice and leave to cool.

If you overcook the rice at this stage, the minced meat will resemble porridge and the meatballs will turn out not tasty, too dense and heavy.

The heat under the frying pan must be high so that a crust quickly forms and liquid does not leak out of the minced meat. Otherwise, the meatballs will turn out a little dry.
