With minced meat

The main advantage of this dish is that you don't even have to knead the pie dough. Mashed potatoes are a great substitute. You can make it fresh, but it’s better to take something already prepared, for example, leftover from yesterday’s dinner from the refrigerator, which will only speed up the cooking process.

Ingredients:

  • Mashed potatoes – 800 g;
  • Low-fat minced meat – 500 g;
  • Large onion – 1 piece;
  • Egg – 1 piece;
  • Flour – 2-3 tbsp;
  • Sour cream – 2 tbsp;
  • Spices - to taste;
  • Salt - to taste;
  • Butter – 2 tbsp;
  • Vegetable oil - for frying.

English cuisine has its own version of mashed potato pie with minced meat. This is the so-called “Shepherd's Pie.” Previously, it was considered the food of the poor, because... it was prepared from the leftovers of fried meat and potatoes, which were in abundance. In addition to minced meat, onions, carrots and green peas are added to the Shepherd's Pie filling. The recipe for an old British dish has not changed over several centuries and is still popular, even outside its historical homeland.

Preparation:

  1. Peel the onion, chop finely and fry in heated vegetable oil until transparent.
  2. Place the minced meat in a frying pan and fry until cooked, stirring occasionally and breaking up any lumps with a spatula. There is no need to over-dry the minced meat, otherwise the filling will turn out dry.
  3. Salt and add spices to taste. You can use dried garlic, freshly ground pepper, a mixture of Provencal herbs or special seasonings for meat dishes.
  4. To prepare the base for a pie from mashed potatoes with minced meat, combine the mashed potatoes with egg and flour. The “dough” should be plastic and not tight, so the amount of flour can be adjusted. Divide the mass into two unequal parts.
  5. Grease a baking dish with a small amount of melted butter. Place most of the potato dough on the bottom, form sides with a spoon and level the base.
  6. Fill the base with warm minced meat. Gently spread the remaining mashed potatoes over the top of the pie.
  7. In order for the finished product to turn out ruddy, its upper part should be greased with sour cream.
  8. Place the pan in the oven for 20-25 minutes. Bake at a temperature of – 180° C.

Using this recipe for a pie with mashed potatoes as a basis, you can experiment with fillings. For example, use more dietary chicken or turkey instead of minced pork and beef, add mushrooms or tomatoes to the minced meat.
