Stuffed pita bread - 8 recipes with different fillings

A good housewife is not one who hangs out at the stove all day, but one who has thousands of simple recipes for delicious dishes in stock. Feeding your family by preparing dinner from scratch is an art.

And here we will find Armenian lavash very useful - a thin flatbread made from wheat flour. It itself is tasteless and dry. Of course, you can use lavash as an analogue of bread, eating soups and other dishes with it. But if you show your culinary imagination, you can turn the flatbread not only into a sandwich, but also into a full-fledged dish.

Good housewives make layer cakes from lavash, similar to lasagna, or Bulgarian banitsa, sweet strudels, tartlets, envelopes and even dumplings. The dry flatbread, saturated with the juices of the filling, seems to be transformed. If you bake this shawarma in the oven with some sauce or cheese topping, you will get a complete hearty meal. In this article you will find some of the best recipes for pita rolls with different fillings. They are extremely easy to prepare and the results with just a little effort are amazing.

Cooking principles

Since lavash itself is neutral, the dominant flavor in the roll is the filling. It can be different: sweet and salty, meat, fish, curd, vegetable, mushroom. Whatever you are used to stuffing pies with can just as easily be made into minced meat for rolls.

And at the same time you don’t have to bother with kneading the dough. But the quality of the lavash cannot be discounted. If you make cold sandwiches from it, then choose products that are not too baked with a pale surface. Moreover, they must be fresh, otherwise the thin cake will break when rolled.

But if we are considering recipes for baked lavash roll, then the choice should be completely different. Our package will spend some time in the oven, where, under the influence of high temperatures, juices will be released from the filling.

If the pita bread is underbaked, they will crumble the dough, and the finished dish will have an unflattering appearance. We choose flat cakes that are ruddy and have black markings. Not quite fresh ones are also suitable - in the oven they will gain a second youth.

Lavash rolls with different fillings. 5 simplest and most delicious recipes

Lavash rolls are very simple and tasty snacks for the holiday table. They can be served for Birthdays, New Years, and almost any family holiday when you want variety on a rich table.

This simple, tasty dish gained popularity not so long ago, and now takes pride of place among traditional snacks. And it’s no secret that you can make lavash rolls with a huge variety of fillings.

We will tell you several recipes for the most delicious rolls, and you will definitely find one that suits your taste. These snacks will definitely please your guests and delight your loved ones.

The component of this snack is Armenian thin lavash. It is sold in stores in the bakery section and is almost always easily available. If you wish, it is not difficult to bake it yourself. But, if you don’t have time for that, then a good fresh pita bread from the store will do just fine.

Lavash rolls with red fish (salmon) and cream cheese

To prepare this roll we will need:

  • Armenian thin lavash,
  • lightly salted red fish (salmon, trout, chum salmon) – 200 grams,
  • soft cream cheese (not melted, look for soft cheeses in jars like Almette, Cremette, Violette, Philadelphia, Mascarpone) – 180-200 grams,
  • lemon juice - 1-2 teaspoons, sprinkle over fish.
  • greens to taste,

To prepare lavash rolls with salmon and cream cheese, cut lightly salted salmon into thin slices. The thinner the pieces, the easier it will be to wrap the roll and the neater it will look.

Next, lay out the pita bread on a board or table (preferably on a clean surface or cling film).

Spread the cream cheese over the pita bread in a thin, even layer. Then, arrange the fish slices, but not close together, but with small intervals. It’s a good idea to alternate the taste of cheese and fish in layers if you put them in a checkerboard pattern.

Lightly sprinkle lemon juice over the salmon to enhance its flavor. A cooking spray is great for this and will help you apply the lemon juice in a thin, even layer.

After this, you can sprinkle the pita bread with cheese and fish with a thin layer of finely chopped herbs. Dill or green onions are great. But I don’t recommend adding too much greenery, as it can overwhelm the delicate taste of the fish and cheese. It’s better to decorate the rolls with herbs on top when serving.

Roll the pita bread into a very tight sausage, wrap it in cling film and put it in the refrigerator for at least half an hour. During this time, the lavash will be soaked and become softer.

Remove the roll from the refrigerator right before serving. Once you've unrolled it, slice it into 2-3cm thick slices either crosswise if you want smaller portions, or diagonally for longer, larger pieces.

Arrange beautifully on a plate and garnish with herbs or cherry tomatoes.

Lavash rolls with crab sticks and melted cheese

For such a delicious roll you will need:

  • Armenian lavash – 1 piece,
  • crab sticks – packaging,
  • processed cheese – 150 grams,
  • mayonnaise – 2-3 tablespoons,
  • greens to taste,

For this roll, it will be useful to prepare the filling in advance, namely, mix it in the form of a salad, this will allow the ingredients to stick better with the sauce and prevent the roll from falling apart later.

Take crab sticks and grate them on a coarse grater. You can also cut it into small strips with a knife. Avoid large thick pieces, they will make the roll lumpy and unsightly, and it will be more difficult to wrap it.

If you use hard processed cheese in briquettes, grate it. If it is soft, then mix it with crab sticks, but reduce the amount of mayonnaise.

Finely chop the greens. Mix crab sticks, cheese, herbs and mayonnaise in a separate bowl until smooth.

Place the pita bread on a clean, dry surface. Spread the resulting filling on it in an even layer. Roll the roll tightly, being careful not to leave any air bubbles. Wrap the finished roll in cling film and put it in the refrigerator to soak. This should take at least half an hour, then the pita bread will not be too dry and the snack will turn out tender.

Before serving, remove the pita bread from the film and cut it into circles 2-3 centimeters thick. Arrange beautifully on a platter and decorate as desired. Rolls with crab sticks and melted cheese are ready! Bon appetit!

Next, roll the roll tightly. Please note that the thicker you make the slices of cheese and ham, the more difficult it will be to roll and the thicker it will end up.

The second method is to grate the cheese on a coarse grater, cut the ham into thin strips, and chop the cucumbers in the same way as ham. After this, mix cheese, ham and cucumbers with mayonnaise, as for preparing a salad. Then spread the filling over the pita bread in an even layer. Sprinkle Korean carrots on top. If there are too large pieces, cut them into smaller ones.

Then, roll it tightly and place it in the refrigerator for a while. Don't forget to wrap it in cling film.

Chop the garlic with a knife or in a special crush. Mix eggs, garlic and mayonnaise and sour cream sauce, spread them on the pita bread in an even layer. Place the chicken on top, spreading it over the entire surface. If desired, you can add herbs, such as parsley or green salad leaves.

Products:

  • lavash – 2 pcs.;
  • boiled sausage – 250 g;
  • cheese (hard or feta cheese) – 100 g;
  • bell pepper (fresh or frozen) – 1-2 pcs.;
  • garlic – 1-2 cloves;
  • greens - dill, parsley - a bunch;
  • mayonnaise – 3-5 tbsp;
  • mustard – 2 tsp;
  • ketchup (tomato paste) – 2-3 tbsp.

Step-by-step cooking recipe:

  1. Having prepared all the ingredients, you need to chop the sausage, cheese, sweet bell pepper, herbs and garlic.
    This is important because assembling the casserole should go quickly and without delays. Otherwise, if you cut and grate the ingredients as you wrap it in pita bread, its thin dough may become soggy. We act quickly but carefully.
  2. It is best to chop the sausage, bell pepper, herbs and garlic into small cubes. Someone might want to grate the sausage on a coarse grater. It's also convenient.

  3. Place the pita bread on a work surface, placing one on top of the other. So the likelihood of it becoming limp will be less.

  4. Coat the surface with mayonnaise and mustard.

  5. Add tomato sauce.

  6. Spread the sauce over the entire surface.

  7. Place evenly chopped ingredients: bell pepper and sausage. Don't forget about garlic.

  8. Sprinkle grated cheese on top and add finely chopped herbs.

  9. When all the ingredients are laid out, we begin to roll into a roll, not doing it too tightly.

  10. Place the resulting roll on a baking sheet, optionally lined with parchment paper. Spread mayonnaise and mustard on top. These will add even more piquancy to the future casserole with sausage, bell pepper and cheese, and mayonnaise forms a beautiful golden brown crust when baked.

  11. Place the lavash casserole in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 20-30 minutes. During this time, the filling will bake perfectly and become tender.

  12. The main thing is not to overcook in the oven so that the thin dough does not burst, and check after 20 minutes of cooking. Usually 20 - 25 minutes are enough for the whole process.

  13. Remove the beautiful, rosy lavash casserole with sausage and cheese from the oven, let it cool a little, and only then cut it into portions.

The edges turn out very tasty, slightly crispy, as they dried out during baking.

This dish is also called lazy pizza. Be sure to prepare this casserole for your family and please them with tasty and easy-to-prepare food.

Beat five eggs with one white and fry four omelet pancakes. Chicken breast (400 grams of fillet without skin) is passed through a meat grinder. Lightly fry the minced meat, salt it and season with spices.

Lay out the lavash on the table. Place in layers: chicken, half of the mushrooms with onions, pancakes, remaining champignons. Cover with a second sheet of pita bread and spread it with sour cream. Roll it up.

Beat the remaining yolk with a fork and grease the surface of the package. Sprinkle with sesame seeds. Cook for 40 minutes at 180 degrees. You can also make a pie with chicken and cheese or tomatoes.

  3. Roll the roll like a snail, brush with egg or butter, and bake for 10 minutes.

Fish roll
