What is better to bake in: oven or slow cooker?
Baking in the oven is an old method that has been tried and tested by many generations, so don’t hesitate, if you have a good oven at home, be sure to use it. Charlotte cooked in the oven always turns out fluffy, soft and aromatic.
A multicooker has its advantages over an oven. Firstly, it is very easy to adjust it to the required temperature level, which can be difficult to do in ovens, especially gas ones. And secondly, many multicookers have a timer, so you don’t have to keep track of the time and run to the kitchen to check every 10 minutes. Charlotte cooked in a slow cooker does not differ in taste from the one baked in the oven, so choose based on your preferences.

Charlotte with pumpkin
Required:
- Eggs – 4 pcs.
- Sugar – 2 multi-cups (this is approximately a faceted glass with a slide).
- Flour - 2 multi-cups (this is approximately a faceted glass with a slide).
- Honey – 3 tbsp. l.
- Soda – 0.5 tsp.
- Vanillin – 1g sachet.
- Pumpkin – approximately 300 gr.
- Butter – for lubricating the multicooker bowl.
Preparation
First we need to cut the pumpkin and clean it of pulp, seeds and skin. First divide the pumpkin in half. Then cut each part in half. We need to cut the resulting piece of pumpkin into thin slices so that it has time to cook and is soft.
And we begin to make biscuit dough for the pie. To do this, we beat the eggs well until fluffy foam. And gradually add sugar. The mass should become thick. Then add honey. Mix. Add soda and vanillin to the flour, sift it and begin adding it to the egg mixture until a thick mass is obtained. Pour the resulting dough into the multicooker bowl, which we have previously thoroughly coated with butter. And we begin to press the pumpkin slices on top.
If we place the pumpkin very often, this will increase the cooking time of our pie - almost double.
We turn on the multicooker to the BAKING mode for 65+50 minutes (1 hour 55 minutes in total or for 2 hours at once), this is with a multicooker power of 670–700 W. That is, when we reach the baking time (65 minutes), without opening the lid again, set another 50–55 minutes on the BAKING mode.
If you put less pumpkin, the charlotte will be ready in 65+20 minutes. Close the lid of the multicooker and wait for the readiness signal. When the charlotte pie with pumpkin is ready, we don’t rush to remove it from the multicooker bowl right away. Let it cool a little, then take it out, turning it over onto a beautiful plate.
Charlotte with kefir in a slow cooker
List of ingredients:
- Flour – 1 cup.
- Sugar – half a glass.
- Kefir – half a glass.
- Eggs – 3 pieces.
- Apples (or pears) – 4–5 small.
- Cinnamon.
- Soda on the tip of a knife.
- Oil for frying.
Preparation:
We prepare all the ingredients. We choose ripe, soft and juicy apples for charlotte. Otherwise, the pie filling will simply not be baked and will remain raw. Break fresh chicken eggs into a separate bowl and beat them thoroughly with a mixer until fluffy foam forms. It is advisable that the eggs are chilled, then they will beat better.
While gently kneading, gradually add the pre-sifted flour to the eggs. Stir the mixture well so that no lumps form in it. After this, add granulated sugar to the mixture. If you like your charlotte sweeter, or your apples are very sour, then you can add more sugar.
Dilute the flour mixture with kefir and stir until you obtain a dough of uniform consistency, reminiscent of thick sour cream. Lightly whisk everything and throw in a little baking soda. There is no need to extinguish it with vinegar, since kefir will do this role perfectly.
Rinse the apples thoroughly, place on a towel and wipe dry. If desired, carefully cut the peel from the fruit and be sure to remove the core and seeds. Chop the edible part of the apples into small random pieces - cubes or slices.
Heat the multicooker bowl slightly and coat it with a piece of melted butter and sprinkle with sugar. Now place the apple slices evenly and sprinkle them with ground cinnamon. Sugar is needed so that the apples caramelize during baking and become tasty.
Next, carefully pour the dough into the bowl, smooth the surface with a spoon and close the device with a lid. Turn on the multicooker, select the “Baking” program on the display and set the timer for approximately 60 minutes. Usually during this time the pie is baked well, but in any case, periodically check it for doneness.
After the beep, let the cake sit for a while, and then open the lid of the multicooker and remove it using the steamer basket. Charlotte with kefir in a slow cooker - ready, transfer it to a plate and cut into portions.
Apple charlotte with cherry jam
Ingredients
- 500 g apples;
- 150 g pitted cherry jam;
- 200 g flour;
- 180 g sugar;
- 4 eggs;
- 2 table. spoons of starch;
- 10 g butter;
- 0.5 tsp. spoons of cinnamon;
- a pinch of salt;
- 1 teaspoon baking powder.
Preparation
The cooking process must begin by preparing the dry ingredients. To do this, sift the flour into a suitable container. This is done not only to remove possible foreign inclusions from the flour, but also to saturate it with oxygen. This will make the dough more fluffy. Add starch to the flour (this also needs to be sifted through a sieve), baking powder and salt.
Now you can start preparing the liquid components. Beat the eggs with a mixer into a thick foam. Continuing to beat, gradually add sugar until the mixture increases in volume by one and a half to two times and turns white. Then place this mixture in a deep bowl or other suitable container. Add 2 tables. spoons of cherry syrup and mix gently.
Next you need to prepare the filling. To do this, put the jam in a strainer to separate the berries from the cherry syrup (it will be needed later to add to the dough). The apples must be washed, dried, peeled and seeds removed, then cut into small slices.
To prepare charlotte in a slow cooker, you need to pour a little less than half of the dough onto the bottom. Place chopped apples on it and sprinkle them with cinnamon. Pour the remaining batter over the apples, making sure to coat all the apples evenly. Place the cherries on top, lightly pressing them into the dough.
Then select the “Baking” program in the menu and set the timer for 1 hour 15 minutes. After the sound signal indicates the end of the program, you need to remove the bowl of charlotte from the multicooker and leave it to cool right in the bowl. Then you can transfer the finished charlotte to a dish using a container for steaming.

Charlotte with pears in a slow cooker
Ingredients
- Pears - 7–8 pcs.
- Chicken eggs - 4 pcs.
- Wheat flour - 1 cup
- Sugar - 0.5 cups
- Ground cinnamon - 1 tsp.
- Salt - to taste
- Butter – 25 g
Preparation
- First of all, beat the eggs. It is most convenient to use a mixer at the highest speed, but you can also use a whisk, although it will take longer. The eggs should acquire a light foam and turn slightly white, then the pear charlotte will turn out to be as fluffy and airy as possible. Add a pinch of salt and sugar to the eggs, beat everything thoroughly again. The egg mixture will become even lighter and the sugar will completely dissolve.
- The amount of sugar depends entirely on personal preference. To emphasize the sweetness of pears, the amount of sugar can be reduced, but those with an incorrigible sweet tooth may even like the increase. If desired, you can replace some of the regular sugar with vanilla. Add cinnamon and mix thoroughly again.
- We begin to carefully add flour. Watch the consistency: the density of the dough should be similar to low-fat sour cream, so you may need to increase its quantity a little, or vice versa, reduce it. Mix thoroughly so that there are no lumps left.
- When the dough is ready, it's time to work on the pears. Choose the variety at your discretion, but make sure that they are dense enough. The principle “better under than over” applies here, because when baked the fruit will become much softer.
- Cut the pears lengthwise into 4 pieces and remove the hard core. After this, we cut them into arbitrary pieces of a fairly large size. When everything is ready, add them to the dough and mix again.
Charlotte with pears is a fairly universal recipe. So, in addition to pears and cinnamon, chopped walnuts, chocolate chips or other sweet additives of your choice are perfect here.
- If necessary, grease the multicooker bowl with oil, and then pour the dough with pears into it. If you still have fruit left, you can decorate the pie with it, but this is not necessary. Please note: the dough will rise during baking, so fill it no more than 2/3 of the container. Set the “Bake” mode for 60 minutes and wait until the pie is ready.
- Remove from the slow cooker, cool slightly and serve. Charlotte with pears is ideal hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a mint leaf. Try it and see for yourself.
The history of the appearance of charlotte
There are about a dozen versions of the origin of the dessert.
The most sophisticated and unconfirmed apple pie was invented by
Queen Charlotte , wife of King George III, whose family loved apples.
There is also a more romantic story about a talented chef who dedicated an invented dish to his beloved Charlotte.
The version of the origin of the pudding dessert based on a modified recipe for an English meat pie .
As for our latitudes, the recipe for charlotte, which is now used for cooking in a slow cooker from apples, appeared around the end of the 19th century.
After the territory of the country was settled by invited Germans, many German bakeries were opened, where they prepared dessert from leftover bread and rolls. Since thrifty German women were often collectively called Charlottes, this particular name was assigned to the dessert.
