What to do with popcorn at home? Let's share our popcorn recipes!

Popcorn is a delicacy that neither a child nor an adult can refuse. Many people associate any type of recreation (going to the cinema or walking in the park) primarily with a bag (or glass) of popcorn. This “disease” did not spare my family either. Of course, we don’t wander around cinemas and parks with popcorn, but at home we enjoy popping it while watching TV. We often make this delicacy on the stove, but today we decided to try making popcorn in the microwave. And we didn’t regret it at all. It turns out that it is much easier and faster than on the stove. And in terms of quality, by the way, homemade popcorn is not at all different from store-bought popcorn. We will use the most ordinary corn grains, intended for making popcorn, which are sold in many stores.

Is it possible to make popcorn in the oven?

Despite the abundance of ready-made options that can be easily cooked in a regular microwave oven, making popcorn in the oven is also very simple. First, check that your home equipment is well regulated to ensure safety and ensure the success of the end result.

The second important nuance is choosing the right dishes. In order for all the particles of the future popcorn to open completely, they need to be cooked in a tightly closed container. In addition, the dishes must be suitable for cooking in the oven, have no plastic parts and will not burst due to high temperature.

The third thing you should pay attention to is the quality of the workpiece. Not all varieties of corn will be suitable, and you certainly should not use forage varieties. It is best to opt for varieties such as Gostinets, Risovaya, Lopay-lopai and Malysh - they contain the optimal combination of moisture, starch and fiber, which, when heated, swells and bursts the shell.

Basic method

IngredientsQuantity
corn grains -100 g
vegetable oil -2 tablespoons
salt -½ teaspoon
Cooking time: 20 minutesCalorie content per 100 grams: 300 Kcal

After meeting all the requirements described above, you can begin the frying process. It is worth taking the basic recipe as a basis, as it is the least labor-intensive and fastest. So, grab a pen and notebook, it's time to write down how to make popcorn in the oven.

Pour oil into a frying pan or saucepan, add grains and salt. Cover with a lid and mix thoroughly (you can just shake). Set the oven heat to 200-220 degrees and wait until the inside of the oven warms up well. Place the baking sheet on the middle level, place the frying pan on it and press the lid tightly.

The readiness of popcorn can be determined both visually, if you have a transparent lid, and by sound: the kernels burst loudly, and as the frequency of “shots” increases, more and more popcorn will be ready. When the grains start shooting a little less often, turn off the oven to avoid burning the finished treat.

How to cook popcorn in the microwave:

Pour the corn kernels into a heat-resistant container so that they cover the bottom in an even layer and fill them with oil.

Mix so that each grain receives its own dose of oil.

Place the filled container in the microwave and close it with a special lid with a hole (mandatory, otherwise condensation will form).

You can cook without a lid, but then you will have to collect the finished popcorn all over the stove, plus wash it off the oil.

Turn on the microwave at 800 W for three minutes. After about a minute, characteristic sounds resembling pops begin to be heard from the device. This indicates that the corn kernels have warmed up and are beginning to open. Once the noise stops, the microwave popcorn is ready.

All that remains is to season it with salt (or powdered sugar), and you can sit comfortably in front of the TV.

How to make popcorn in a bag

On supermarket shelves you can often see semi-finished popcorn products packaged in special paper bags. At home, you can also make such packages yourself and finish them in the oven.

There are two options for packages for the production of homemade corn snacks:

  1. Seal a bag of oiled baking parchment and place 100 grams of grains inside. Then tie or tape it tightly;
  2. A regular polyethylene sleeve designed for baking will also work. You can do this in the same way as with other dishes: measure the required length, cut the bag and tie one edge tightly or fasten it with special clips. Lightly sprinkle the grains with oil, salt and place in a bag. Seal the second edge and shake the bag to mix the contents.

Cooking time: 25-30 minutes.

Calorie content: 300 kcal/100 grams.

Place the bag in a container with high sides and place in an oven heated to 200 degrees. To ensure that the grains open evenly, use oven mitts to turn the bag over several times during cooking.

Once most of the popcorn is ready, remove the bag from the oven and leave it closed for a while: the high temperature inside will allow the remaining corn to cook. Then cut the bag open and place the contents in a serving dish.

Caramel popcorn

Not everyone likes the salty taste of regular popcorn, but this caramel variation is sure to please! This product can be used not only as a snack, but also as a healthy and tasty dessert that can be given without fear even to children.

Take the already described basic recipe as a basis, but you can supplement it with aromatic caramel syrup. To cook it you need:

  • cane brown sugar - 2 cups (about 400 grams);
  • salt – 1 teaspoon;
  • butter – 200 grams;
  • corn syrup - ½ cup;
  • molasses – 1 tablespoon;
  • soda – ½ teaspoon;
  • roasted peanuts - 1 cup.

Cooking time: 1.5 hours.

Calorie content: 500 kcal/100 grams.

To make the caramel syrup base, heat the butter in a saucepan, add sugar, molasses, salt and corn syrup. Stir the mixture thoroughly and keep it at medium temperature until it boils. Once it starts to boil, stir for another 5 minutes and then remove the container from the heat.

Add baking soda to the cooling syrup and stir again until the mixture stops foaming and turns light in color. Separately, grind the peanuts into crumbs in a blender. If you don’t have a blender, you can put the nuts in a bag in a thin layer, tie it and roll it over with a rolling pin or beat it with a hammer.

Line a baking sheet with a layer of parchment paper and lightly grease with oil. Place the popcorn on top and spread evenly. Drizzle caramel over top and sprinkle with peanut crumbles.

Leave to dry in a warm, dry place or put in the oven for 1 hour on convection mode and at a temperature of 120-150 degrees. During this time, you need to stir the cornflakes in the pan at least 3-4 times with a wooden spatula to distribute the caramel. Once dry, transfer the popped corn into portioned cardboard buckets or bowls.

How to make popcorn with sugar and cinnamon

Cooking sweet popcorn has its own nuances, because when heated, the sweet component can easily caramelize and burn before all the flakes are ready. This recipe will allow you to prepare a sweet snack without any problems. And it will be based on the same basic recipe for creating homemade puffed corn.

In addition to the ingredients already listed above, you will need:

  • powdered sugar – 100 grams;
  • cinnamon – ½ stick or ½ teaspoon ground;
  • cocoa (optional) – 2 tablespoons.

Cooking time: 35-40 minutes.

Calorie content: about 350 kcal/100 grams.

Cook popcorn in the oven using conventional technology. Once all the ingredients are in the pan and in the oven, mix the powdered sugar, cinnamon and cocoa (if you want to add a chocolate flavor) in a bowl.

Once the popping noise stops, remove the popcorn from the oven, open the lid and sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Close the lid and mix everything by shaking the pan. Return the popcorn to the oven for another 5 minutes before removing and placing into boxes or bowls to serve.

In this option, you should definitely use fine powder instead of granulated sugar - it will be better distributed over the surface of the flakes and will not crumble. In addition, the powder caramelizes more slowly, and your sweetness will not burn.

Popcorn Topping Options

I think most of you will agree - without spices, popcorn is boring. I advise you to add only spices and all kinds of additions when the flakes are still warm. That is, we took it out of the microwave, let it cool a little and flavor it with “flavors”. Try making it with the spices listed below, it will turn out really tasty.

Honey

If you like sweet popcorn, mix the popped popcorn with ½ tsp. salt without a slide and ¼ cup of honey. Do not pour in all the honey at once. First add half, cover the bowl and shake it. Then add the rest of the honey and do the same.

Chili with cheese

With this addition the delicacy will be irresistible. Mix 1 tsp in a bowl. chili, 0.5 tsp. salt and 100 g of finely grated cheese. Drizzle the puffed flakes with oil and sprinkle with the aromatic mixture. Then stir everything to coat the popcorn evenly with the spices. If you don't like it too spicy, you can reduce the amount of chili you add.

Matcha with dark chocolate

For this “aroma” you will need:

  • 80 g dark chocolate;
  • 1 tbsp. coconut oil (or butter);
  • 1 tsp coarse sea salt;
  • 2 tsp matcha tea powder.

Melt the chocolate and butter over low heat. In this case, the contents of the container must be constantly stirred. By the way, this can be done in the microwave, just read first.

Sprinkle the finished flakes with matcha powder and mix everything thoroughly. This additive will give the popcorn a slightly greenish tint. Then pour the chocolate mixture on top of the treat and add sea salt. Yes, yes, you heard right - sprinkle salt. The fact is that it helps dark chocolate stand out from other spices.

You can eat the finished delicacy right away – warm. Or you can put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. During this time, the chocolate will cool down and the popcorn will be saturated with aromatic additives.

White chocolate cookies

Melt 300 g of white chocolate and 2 tbsp. coconut oil. Drizzle the buttery mixture over the puffed corn flakes. Then sprinkle the popcorn with crushed Oreo cookies (you will need 10 pieces) and mix thoroughly. It will turn out incredibly tasty.

Fragrant herbs

For spices and additives you will need:

  • 0.5 tsp citric acid;
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder;
  • 2 tsp dried dill;
  • 0.5 tsp mustard powder;
  • 2 tsp chopped coriander;
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder;
  • 1 tbsp. salt;
  • ¼ cup ghee.

Mix spices in a bowl. Melt the butter and pour it over the popcorn. Then sprinkle the air flakes with a mixture of aromatic herbs and mix everything.

If you only have one spice from this set at home, it doesn’t matter. Mix it with salt, oil and add to the air flakes. Only then write down what you did. I look forward to your comments
