The first time I tried a real “Greek” salad was when my family and I were on vacation in Greece. A huge mountain of the freshest, most delicious salad adorned itself on a snow-white plate, causing an irresistible desire to finish it right away. How delicious it was!

This is truly something fabulous! Greenish-amber, aromatic olive oil, a mixture of herbs, delicate cheese, juicy vegetables and black olives - this is simply an unreal pleasure! This delicacy was served along with slices of crispy, freshly baked bread. Overall, words simply cannot describe how amazing it was.

Since then, this dish has become one of the most popular and favorite in my family. Despite the fact that it has its own clear recipe, many housewives prepare it at home in their own way.

Why not? Especially if it turns out very tasty and appetizing! I myself tried to cook a variety of recipes, and my family was very pleased with the results.

For example, there are many variants of the “Pomegranate Bracelet”, the popular “Caesar” chicken and even the traditional herring under a fur coat. Then why not make some changes to the Greek salad? I think this is a very great idea!

In any case, a large number of delicious variants of this dish confirms this. I want to invite you to try them. All of them are very easy to prepare, they do not require much time, and the result will exceed all your expectations.

  • Beijing cabbage - 150 gr.
  • Tomato – 1 pc.
  • Pepper – 1 pc.
  • Olives – 150 gr.
  • Onion – 1 pc.
  • Feta cheese – 20 gr.
  • Refueling:
  • Oil – 5 tbsp
  • Garlic – 1-2 cloves
  • Salt – 0.5 tsp/spoon
  • Lemon juice – 1 tbsp/spoon
  • Ground pepper – 0.5 tsp

Preparation:

Let's cut the Chinese cabbage or tear it with our hands.

Wash the cucumber, cut off the edges, cut into large pieces, and transfer to a deep salad bowl.

Cherry tomatoes, it is best to take different colors, cut in half, transfer to cucumbers. If you don’t have cherry tomatoes, it’s okay, you can use any variety of tomatoes.

Peel the onion, wash it well, cut it into thin rings or half rings, as you like. We disassemble the onions and put them in a salad bowl.

Fleshy red bell peppers, washed, peeled and then cut into large pieces. The first rule of this salad is coarsely chopped ingredients.

How to make a classic Greek salad. Step by step photos of the recipe:

The taste of the dish depends on the freshness and quality of the products used. It is important to note that only Feta cheese, which contains beneficial bacteria, is used to prepare a real Greek salad. The calorie content of the dish is low, so it does not contribute to an increase in waist or hips.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pcs fresh tomatoes.
  • 2 medium sized cucumbers.
  • 1 piece of bell pepper.
  • 1 piece of onion.
  • 20 pcs pitted olives.
  • 100 grams of Feta cheese.
  • 3 tbsp olive oil.
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice.
  • Table salt and spices according to preference.

Cooking process

Greeks season almost all their dishes. Therefore, before preparing the salad, you need to make a dressing. In a ratio of 1:3 you need to mix lemon juice and olive oil. To add flavor to the dish, you can add oregano and other spices and seasonings. Mix everything thoroughly with a broom. Set the bowl aside while we prepare the ingredients.

Cut the tomatoes into slices. There is a little secret here: to make the taste richer, it is recommended to use only ripe vegetables, preferably of different varieties.

Rinse the cucumbers under running water, dry with paper napkins, then cut lengthwise into 4 parts and divide into large pieces of 3 mm. If the peel is too thick or bitter, it is recommended to peel it. But if the skin is thin, then you need to run a fork over it to form small grooves. As a result, the product will look more attractive, and the dressing will penetrate inside the vegetable.

Wash the bell pepper, dry it with paper towels, remove the core and seeds. Then cut the vegetable into 4 parts and cut into pieces or salt shakers.

Peel the onions and then cut them into rings. It is recommended to use the purple vegetable, as it is juicy and sweet. To achieve a mild taste, you can pour boiling water over it.

Feta cheese is made from goat's milk. Some people replace it with feta cheese, but this is not recommended, as the taste will be completely different. For the salad, the cheese is cut into medium-sized cubes.

The classic version of the salad uses whole olives. But if you want, you can divide them in half using your hands or a sharp knife.

Now all the prepared vegetables and olives need to be transferred to a salad bowl, add dressing and mix everything thoroughly.

Add spices if desired, stir again, then add pieces of cheese.

After adding Feta to the salad, it is not recommended to mix the ingredients, as the appearance will be spoiled. The cheese is quite salty, so it is not necessary to add table salt. The dish can be served to the table. Bon appetit!

Greek salad recipe with fetaxa

Traditionally, Greek salad is prepared with feta cheese. It is made from sheep's milk and has a specific taste and consistency. The European Union prohibits the production of cheese with this name in all countries except Greece. Therefore, when it reaches Russian shelves, feta becomes quite expensive.

Fetaxa can be produced at any cheese factory and of course differs from feta cheese in its consistency and taste. Fetax cheese is produced, usually from cow's milk, less often from goat's milk. However, for a Greek salad, the recipe with fetax is quite acceptable and is closest to the classic taste.

Greek or country salad (Greek in translation sounds like horaitiki, which means “country”), came to us from a country that is replete with goodies, fresh vegetables and olive oil, cheese, and, of course, incredible baked goods, which perfectly complements this simple, but an original dish. You can cook it every day, as well as offer it to guests on the festive table. This dish is ideal for those losing weight, since both vegetables and cheese are low in calories, but they saturate the body with vitamins and fiber, as well as an explosion of taste and aroma.
